About Ortovox

In 1976, a man by the name of Gerard Kampel began developing tools to help improve construction safety. Four years later, in 1980, Kampel helped make the world's first double frequency transceiver, to be used for searching for avalanche victims. Kampel named the transceiver the Ortovox F2. In 1981, Ortovox began selling the Ortovox F2 transceiver in several countries. Thus, the brand was officially introduced to the market. Since then, Ortovox has become the world's leading producer of avalanche safety equipment. Pretty good, huh? Well, that's probably because the employees themselves are engaged in mountain sports, so they make products that they, themselves, rely on just in case of an unfortunate event on the mountain.

Ortovox's main priority is safety, so they make all of these super cool products that can save your life. Yeah, they're kind of a big deal. Orotovox beacons are top-notch. Safety should always be at the top of everyone's list. I know you love exploring the mountains, but what's better than setting out to explore knowing you're safe? Nothing, I bet.

Since the 80's, Ortovox has added several different products to their brand in addition to transceivers. Their probes are made lightweight and easy to use, while the shovels are strong and powerful enough to dig through anything, whether you're on a rescue mission or just shoveling your driveway. Which reminds me, I should probably shovel my driveway sometime soon. My mom has been yelling at me to do it for the last two days. I'm just hoping the snow will melt.

Nowadays Ortovox transceivers feature fancy technology, including automatic location of strong transmission signals, and microprocessor controls, among other fancy things. This means that over the last 30 years, Ortovox has used advances in technology to make even more reliable products. Oh, and each transceiver comes with a five-year warranty, so if yours stop working, you can send it right in to Ortovox and they'll give you a brand new one, or fix it, or something like that. Did I mention Ortovox is the world's leading producer of avalanche safety equipment? Just making sure.

The avalanche beacons work great too. We had our own little test in the warehouse where we buried the new guy, Jason, hide under a ton of packing peanuts, and we went off searching for him, hide-and-seek style. We found him right away, but decided to take a lunch break before rescuing him.
