Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, high quality cams I've used these cams with DMM Dragons and BD C4s on granite only so far. The new Friends combine the best features i like from both brands (well-made, smooth action, extendable sling, holding power) while being lighter. As others have said, the color coding makes it easy to mix with C4s while providing a slightly different range. If you want to complain about domrthing, the heads are slightly wider than C4s and lose 2KN when the sling is extended, but still 10KN. Haven't taken a whipper on them yet. These are my new favorite all around cams.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with this choice Racked up with metolius FS II minis. I have taken these out on one 3 day trip to NY’s Gunks. My brother has a single set of BD C4s racked with Camp Dyons so we racked up with both sets when leading. The matching color codes makes mixing racks very easy. No confusion. I didn’t really have a preference for one cam vs the other when extending with a sling but when clipping directly on straight sections I favored the Friends due to the extendable sling. The slightly larger lobes on the Friends will do well in CA Castle Rock sandstone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cam! I just got back from a climbing trip to Colorado. I had a double rack at my disposal including a full set of BD Camalots C4 & X4s as well as WC New Friends. BD has been the gold standard for cams but I believe the New Friends to be a strong contender. I actually prefer the New Friends to the Camalots for several reasons. First, the extendable sling allows me to carry fewer slings and/or alpine draws AND allows for quicker gear placement because I don't need to take a separate sling from around my shoulder to clip to the cam. All you need to do is plug the cam then extend the built in sling and keep moving. This single feature allows me to climb both lighter and faster. And the 2nd feature that, in my opinion, puts these ahead of the C4s is the lobe design. The lobes are a bit wider, providing more contact with the rock and they feel rougher and grittier, adding more friction between the lobes and the rock. The C4's lobes are painted and very smooth, granted they hold very well, so just imagine how a rougher, grittier, larger lobe will hold. Given the choice, I would reach for a New Friend before I would use a C4. They are both amazing products, but the Friends just inspire a little more confidence in my gear placements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better features than BD A friend recommended Wild Country to me over Black Diamond and initially I was skeptical. I decided to trust their advice and went ahead and got the set from #1-#3. After trying them out I really like the way they feel. Overall very solid pull and good placements. Haven't taken a large fall yet, so can't report on that. They don't come with carabiners, which kinda stinks but the extendable slings are a lifesaver. Even though they aren't super long, they can minimize some rope drag and keep the cams from walking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide lobes and light! The wide lobes and hollow axles will make for long wear. Larger axels make a larger contact area with the lobes so it will take longer for wear to cause sideways slop to occur. About 10% lighter than C4s and 15% heavier than Ultralights. Wide cams are also ideal for soft rock like sandstone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Cams These cams definitely inspire confidence! Only complaint I have is that they don't come with a carabiner. I like when cams have 'biners that match the cam color so that it is easier to find the right size during stressful moments. Other than that, solid gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive redesign The updated Friends are a worthy addition to any rack. Smartly, they are now sized and color-coded to blend seamlessly with BD cams—no more fumbling to find the right piece when you've combined your rack with your buddy's. The extend-a-sling feature is great to save on space and weight so you don't have to carry quite so many extra draws. And the thumb-loop trigger is ergonomic and has smooth action. Quality built.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cams! Like all WC products, the new Friends are impeccably made. They're extremely light and feature a thumb loop with extendable dyneema sling. My Camalots are now relegated to my gear bin as extras - Friends and DMM Dragon cams are on my everyday gear sling now.

Thanks Scrubba Dub! Can you please also confirm whether the pricing is correct for the two smaller sets? Maybe backwards? 0.4, 0.5, 0.75 lists at $214.95 and 1, 2, 3 lists at $189.95. Just want to be sure I don't get the wrong one.

Asked by: Bruin
Hey!! We need to stop meeting this way :) I assure you, against all logic, the pricing is as it should be! The 1,2,3 is priced correctly and the .4, .5, and .75 are more expensive!

The cam set under item selection lists #0.4, #0.5, #0.75, and #1 and shows a list price of $405. Seems the set should also include #2 and #3? Will not order until clarified.

Asked by: Bruin
Hey Bruin! You are correct. The Wild Country Friend Cam Set for 40495 includes ALL of them. We just didn't have room to get all of the numbers in the drop down menu. To clarify: the 40495 comes with: 0.4 / 0.5 / 0.75 / 1 / 2 / 3

What cams do you get in the "SET" option.  The picture displays 6 cams.  The product specs show 5 cams ( .5 to #3 ).  Competitors are are offering 3 cam sets for the same price as what appears to be 6 cams in you advertisement.  What is the deal?? Thanks.

Asked by: Matt
Hiya Matt, thanks for your question! The "set" option includes sizes 1, 2, and 3 (currently retails for $229.95), while the other set (currently retails for $189.95) includes sizes 0.5, 0.75, and 1. I'll have our web content team update the product page to avoid future confusion. Sorry about that!
