Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Backpack for Carrying STuff Around I use this backpack to carry my laptop and office supplies from and to work, and between multiple work locations in Seattle. Love that my back doesn't get sweaty. Straps are extremely comfortable- I feel like I carry less weight than my old backpack, even though I just transferred my stuff over (didn't get rid of anything).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love It, Yet... The product is a lot smaller than expected, but everything fit! In fact it's compact style was not a hinderance to include all my stuff, and I have a lot of stuff. I am missing a place to connect keys, or a thumb drive on the backpack. I had my wife sew a clip on the side of the bag for this purpose. I also had to add a box at the bottom of the big compartment because all my books fell to the bottom. The computer compartment is easily accessible when the bag is on its side. I find myself turning it on its side to access much of my 'stuff'. In some ways this makes it easier and in some ways more difficult. Every backpack I've owned takes time to get used to. This one is no different. It is the best backpack I have owned. There is not a one perfect for all my needs. But this one is close. I would highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nearly perfect backpack I used to haul around a messenger bag, a tote bag, and a small laptop bag whenever I went to work. In hopes to downsize, I searched for a backpack here and feel in love with the Uptown upon discovering the separate laptop sleeve in the back. There are plenty of pockets, whether it's to store emergency toiletries in the more hidden pockets or placing my keys and work badge in that convenient and easy to access top pouch. Everything feels organized and secure. I do enjoy the laptop compartment in the back; I'm not afraid it's going to bump into other things I store, like an umbrella. I worried when transfering everything over into the new backpack that it would feel like a bag of bricks like my old messenger bag, but it feels almost weightless. I'm on my feet all day, so putting this on isn't a miserable experience. I do have a couple of nitpicks with this backpack. While it is grey, the color's lighter than the pictures and has a greenish hue. The zippers can require extra effort to use, which I can go either way; it keeps pockets from randomly opening, but isn't helpful when I'm running ten minutes late and need to shove everything in. My biggest gripe is the laptop sleeve with my current laptop. My previous laptop was a 13" Dell Inspiron that fit snug inside. I've recently upgraded to the Dell XPS 13 9370, which while I love, is also much smaller and thinner, thus leaving it to slide around in that compartment. It goes straight to the bottom of the backpack and I'd hate to place it down without thinking and dent my brand new laptop due to the lack of padding on the very bottom. I've ended up cutting out a piece of foam to stick in there to prevent any damage when placing my backpack down. Aside from that, I love this backpack. It's stylish, practical, and safe on my shoulders/back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great size to ride bike not to big or small I bought it month ago pretty satisfy with the product, adequate size to ride my bike, have not used it during rainy conditions. Enough organization for office use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good backpack but there are problems... This is a pretty good backpack but there could be some improvements. The pockets are great; smaller quick access pockets (front slash pocket for wallet/passport/plane ticket, phone pocket), a good pen/pencil area and 2 large main compartments to keep work notes/mouse/power brick etc. separate from clothes/lunch/whatever. The capacity of this bag is good and it can hold a lot. The external laptop pocket is great for airport security and also good to keep books/papers flat. Now the cons... the backpack is not waterproof. I live in Vancouver, BC where it rains all the time, so I worry about my laptop getting wet. A backpack cover helps, but because the laptop sits closest to your back, it's vulnerable if water gets in that gap between your back and the cover. Then there is the laptop pocket itself. I don't know why, but Timbuk2 designs everything for MAC products which have rounded corners. A lot of professionals use PCs for work and it's difficult to get a PC into the pocket. I have a 15in Lenovo Thinkpad and it fits, but it's a tight squeeze and I need to be careful when zipping it up around the corners. The laptop sleeve is side loading, so it's difficult to use if you don't unzip the laptop pocket fully and fold it all the way open, which requires a lot of space and can be awkward. A top loading sleeve would have been better. I find the straps fairly comfortable but they do sit close to your neck, and the roughness of the inside stitching/webbing has been hard on the shoulders of my coat. Some other minor things...the zippers are not smooth running (although they are getting better with repeated use), the colour Surplus is really quite green, not grey like the photo, and there is only one outside mesh pocket, which I use for a wet umbrella. A second mesh side pocket would have been great. So overall, it's a pretty good bag but it needs a few improvements, especially if you use a PC and live somewhere that it rains.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this bag so much I use this bag to carry my laptop and books (I'm a professor), and it's amazing. My shoulder and neck problems instantly disappeared. The first time I tried it on, I worried that the straps were close together, as some reviews had mentioned that. However, once I got it loaded up with books, I no longer noticed them. I'm not sure if they sat differently when the backpack was weighed down, but it's really comfortable, and the straps don't bother me at all. I'm incredibly happy with this bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Backpay for MacBook Pro Timbuk2 won me over with their classic messenger bag years ago. It was my main commuting bag for over seven years, because of it's thoughtful design, and it held up amazingly well. This Uptown backpack has the same build quality and intelligent design but is much more versatile than the messenger bag for traveling, especially with an expensive laptop. This has plenty of pockets of external batteries and cords/accessories. I also love the plain design, it draws much less attention while traveling abroad. This backpack simply couldn't be better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite backpack of all time! I am a Stay-At-Home-Dad, that doesn't actually get to spend much time at home. I also do the bookkeeping for several clients and need to be able to carry my office around with me so that I can sit down to work when I have time between dropping off and picking up the kids at their various activities. This backpack is extremely well organized so that I can quickly find everything I need, from my bluetooth 10-key keypad, to my laptop, to my file folders. My very bulky noise-isolation headphones (so that I can concentrate at Starbucks) fit nicely in the large front pocket without affecting the main compartment so that I can keep my papers and files from getting mangled.
