Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Rarely Give 5 Stars As mentioned above, I rarely give items 5 stars. This backpack is great. It is large, sturdy, and aesthetically pleasing. I find that the front pocket is a bit slim when the bag is full, but there is so much room in the main pocket that it does not affect the usefulness of the bag. I have used the bag for riding, hiking, and as a weekender and I have not been disappointed at all. Also, I placed a hydration bladder in the laptop pocket, guided the mouthpiece through the side entrance of the main pocket, and it works great! There are two nitpicks: (1) I believe this is mentioned by other reviewers, but the velcro on the roll top can catch onto fabrics as you place them in the bag and (2) my Camelbak Chute water bottle falls out of the water bottle pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST PURCHASE I'VE EVER MADE IN MY LIFE WOW!!! I got this maybe two years ago and it is basically still brand new! I am a pretty small person, 5'3", and I LOVE this thing. I did so much research on different weatherproof backpacks and I eventually landed on this one, and boy it is the best purchase I have ever made. This is seriously the highest quality backpack I could think of in any circumstance and COMFORTABLE!! I often times put so much in this backpack that I fall over when I pick it up, but when I finally stand and have it on, I am perfect! The design distributes the weight SO well that I often forget how heavy my backpack is. The system for allowing air to flow through to your back is also amazing, and is still very well functioning after these two years that I have had it. I wanted to make sure I had it for enough time to make a really honest and good review, and it really has exceeded ALL expectations. When/If this backpack dies, I will surely be returning to Timbuk2 for a new one! INSANELY GOOD

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag for Travel Bought this prior to a week-long overseas trip where I was also bringing my own bike -- having a backpack (ie - not rolling suitcase) that could fit a week's worth of clothes/kit and free up my hands to deal with the bike bag at the airport was essential. This bag did just that, wonderfully. I read a lot of reviews, though, where people stated they could easily ride with this bag packed full. I don't know what kind of hulks they are, but I don't agree at all ... note that it's not a fault of the bag ... it's well-balanced, but 25-30lbs on your back does not make for easy cycling. It's doable for a short commute, but I wouldn't choose to spend a day that way. Since the initial trip, I've used it for traveling to overnight races as well as all other vacations. Excellent construction and capacity, and so much easier to take aboard planes. One note is that the front, flat pocket is really difficult to access when the bag is full ... kind of wish it expanded more so I could fish for keys, wallet, documents, etc, better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOVE IT for travel, but not TSA friendly I purchased this bag about 2 years ago as I was moving from the US to Cambodia. When it arrived, it was much bigger than I was expecting, so was not able to use it for everyday use on my moto bike like I'd hoped, but I really liked it so kept it. It still looks brand new and I use it mainly as my travel bag. It's been on multiple trips to China, HK, Macau, Vietnam, Korea, Maylasia, Singapore, Thailand, and Bali. Plus I use it as my carryon when I fly back to the states 2x/year. My favorite part is it has a small zipper pocket on the back right side that perfectly fits my iPhone 6 PLus and passport, so I don't have to take off my bag as I go through boarders and customs etc. Another pro is it holds a ton! I love that it expands with the roll top. The waistband has also been amazing support for when we've had to lug all our stuff miles across an underdeveloped country. Another big pro is, if you swing it correctly and use the top handle, it fits perfect under the seat in front of you on every size plane I've been on, even when it's quite full. There are a few main cons: The zipper to access the main inside of the bag, does not access the laptop sleeve. This may seem not a big deal, but when it is packed full and you have to go through TSA, I have to unhook, unroll, dive in, and then wrestle it out. And then getting it back in is a nightmare. Most times I just put my bag through and take a chance on it getting seached or not (it's literally that annoying). The only other con is that there are no gussets in the front pockets, so when your bag is full it's a wrestling match to get things in and out of them, and I worry about my ipad bending when in it. But otherwise I LOVE this bag.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok, but there are better options I bought this bag in 2012 because I wanted a large capacity waterproof roll or flap top with a waist strap. At the time there were very few options on the market (Chrome still has yet to put a waist strap on a single bag of theirs). This bag worked well for the most part but there are some key design and durability issues. The good: The cordura exterior is indestructable. I haven't even come close to wearing through it using this bag almost every day. The harness system is quite comfortable, the internal frame sheet does a good job distributing the weight, and the back padding is comfy and durable. The hidden pocket on the back panel is a great touch. Top handle is rare on messenger backpacks and super useful. I have used this thing to carry some serious cargo (wheelsets, framesets, an entire children's bike). The U-lock/water bottle holster on the side is great, which brings me to the bad aspects. Why is there only one U-lock/water bottle holster when there could be two? I shouldn't have to choose between easy access U-lock and water bottle if I could have both. The side access zipper to the main compartment is basically unusable because it is blocked by the compression straps. Even if it was usable I think the priority in design should be water protection, not a zipper I will rarely use. The zip-out gussets that supposedly add volume to the pack don't do much. The only place you can have any organization is the exterior flap pocket but it wasn't designed with any depth so it's near useless if the main compartment is full. The zippered pocket on the outside of this is supposedly for easy access, but its completely flat and useless for anything besides extremely flat objects. The velcro closure for the roll top is overkill. It doesn't really help close the bag. It's very noisy. It will ruin your favorite sweaters. All but one buckle on this bag have broken through normal use. The tarpaulin on the top outside of the roll top started rotting away after 3 years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor materials quality, warranty, and customer service This is a great bag, but reliability and customer service issues prevent me from recommending it. The good This is a roomy bag, but it also cinches down in size when you don't need the full capacity. It features a large main pocket (with laptop sleeve), a front pocket with organizers, a small front pocket, and a document pocket, so it's easy to keep your items organized. In months of commuting in Seattle rain, it kept my stuff dry and secure. It's also incredibly comfortable to wear. I switched to this bag from a messenger bag, since a backpack was clearly going to be better for my shoulders and back. I love how messenger bags open up to make it easy to get things in and out and to find items inside. I ordered this bag in blue, and the combination of the large opening, organizing pockets, and red interior fabric made it easy to find and access items so that I didn't miss my messenger bag that much. The bad After just about six months, the mesh on the back of the bag wore away in parts (see photo) -- this damage was small but spreading. I contacted Timbuk2 for repair. I was originally (after a two week delay) told that this kind of damage is not covered by warranty. I appealed and they agreed (after another two weeks) to cover it. I sent the bag in for repair only to learn after six weeks that they could not complete the repair and were sending the damaged bag back. This is despite sending in photos of the damage with the initial warranty request. It's surprising that Timbuk2 was both (a) reluctant to stand behind their product and (b) unable to accurately assess whether they can repair it. In this case, it meant weeks of using an old bag while waiting for repairs, only to get a damaged bag back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super high-quality and durability I usually open the roll-top of the pack when I reach my destination and put my helmet on top, as shown in photo. This highly water-proof pack is made to withstand decades of abuse. Has lots of organization and a cavernous main compartment, yet still fits in the lockers at the gym and the pool. My vintage Surly 1x1 with fat 26" tires in the background.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This bag is not a day to day go to bag By the time you unbuckle and unroll the top it takes your whole arm to reach the bottom. It does not lend its self well to being organized. It's my bad I read similar reviews and thought I was not going to be a big deal. If you adventure in the rain a lot this bag might be a good fit. I have bought three timbuk2 bags and loved them and have my eye on the new Armory, hopefully that is a better fit.
