Breaking them in was more uncomfortable than I expected. The left side of the left shoe by my ankle is turned inwards more than the right side and rubs against my ankle bone. Higher socks helped the process.

Going to exchange for a half size up and see if the rubbing still persist. I would recommend going up half a size if you're planning to wear thicker socks.
