The North Face O2 Tent is a free-standing tent for lightweight backpackers and thru-hiking. The O2 is a two person tent, yet weighs in at a total of 2lbs, 4oz. The tent body consists of a 15D lightweight nylon "no-see-um" mesh, keeping your body protected from teeny bugs while you sleep. The large single door makes for quick entry and exit, while the tarp-style fly creates a single vestibule for protecting your pack from wind and rain. The tent can be pitched with fly-only to drop weight, but I totally recommend you pick up the optional footprint if that's the case. You can even leave the end poles at home and use your trekking poles to erect the tent to make your pack even lighter.

FEATURES of The North Face O2 Tent

  • Tarp-style fly provides ample coverage and a wind shedding design
  • Large door and vestibule
  • Multiple loops for hanging drying lines or headlamps
  • End poles can be replaced with trekking poles for an even lighter trail weight
  • Vaulted head and footbox for maximum internal space

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Production fault! Northface Send me this tent for guarranty return for my meso2 tent. I used once in a 5 days alpinist climbing. Extralight and strong tent. But unfortunately flyingsheet connectionpoint defected for just in one use. Now Northface didnt interested my emails, so it's an amazing tent but just one point should be fixed!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again Observations are an outcome of a back-country trip off the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, Price Park region, Mountains to the Sea trail, May 2016: Pros include quick intuitive set-up, lite well constructed materials, good workmanship, packs nicely, the tent stuff sack has sufficient space. The fly adequately protects two weekend packs, fly colors are bright and observable, great ventilation based on the fly pitch height, and the shelter is sized appropriately for two adults under 6 feet. Cons include single access door, this may be needed to keep overall weight down. The tent and fly is constructed of a fine synthetic care must be taken during pitch and collapse. No worries, North Face has a great warranty and has quickly replaced my tents in the past. The tent is not free standing and requires the owner to use the affixed lines to properly set. That being said this is a great choice for a weekender.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Light and Trekking pole setup DOES WORK!! I haven't taken this thing out for a test drive yet, but I did set it up in my backyard when I first got it and was very surprised at how easy it was to setup. I chose to test out TNF claim of being able to use trekking poles instead of the included poles for setup. A few reviews I watched online said it was not possible, but I had no problem with my poles - I have the Black Diamond Carbon Cork Trekking Poles. The construction of the tent feels solid for a 30D tent and should hold up nicely in bad weather. Now I just have to test this puppy out in the field!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Update on tent - Scott from Indiana I used the tent four times this past season. It's easy to pitch and you get better at setting it up each time. I replaced the stakes with MSR Carbon stakes. The stakes that came with it are too small and can be lost easily. The MSR's are longer and weigh less. This tent holds up very good in the rain. Had heavy rains at the Red River Gorge this fall and never had anything inside get wet. It's really more for one person than two, which is what I bought it for. The tent does not seem to have any durability problems. I'm not sure what happened with the first reviewer's tent, but mine has held up fine. Just with any lightweight equipment you have to treat it with some care. I use a gossamer gear polycro ground sheet. I'm waiting for the actual footprint to be released. I chose this tent over big Agnes and the smaller tarptent tents. In the Midwest I'm concerned about condensation, so single wall tents were a concern for me. No condensation issues at all with this tent. I noticed an unusual plastic type smell to it, but it is not a problem. I aired it out several days once to try to see if it would go away. Again, not a problem. Overall a very nice lightweight tent. You have to use the end poles because trekking poles will not properly fit in the grommets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for a very light tent This tent is very light and compact compared to most 1 and 2 person tents. It is small for a 2P, but could be done for a night or two for smaller people. Just right to give me a little more room than my Alps 1P tent, and a couple pounds lighter. But for lightness you have to expect to give up something. The unreinforced rain fly grommets on both ends tore out after my first use (I'm sending it back for repair), and I was careful because the thin fabric feels fragile. I take off my shoes to go inside, and I always kneel/sit on my sleeping pad as otherwise a small rock might punch through. After a 2 night slow rain (Big South Fork in TN in March) the floor was wetting my sleeping bag, but the rain stopped the next day and everything dried out. I'd be nervous in this tent in an extended wet climate or if the wind blew hard as it is fairly open on the sides, but it has very good ventilation with no condensation problem. If I'm going on a trip that I expect rough weather I'm taking my Alps that will keep me dry in anything, but I mainly got the O2 for an extended 11-day backpack trip in New Mexico which should be drier, where low weight and compactness counts more. I just carried the O2 in the Rockies and I didn't even know that I was carrying a tent. it's a great asset when low weight is the priority, but It's not a do everything tent.
