Fastpack = moderate exertion = sweat = need for breathability, not waterproof They are incredibly comfortable and light and probably the best mid height option available in my opinion. I generally am team trail runner but also have use for a boot (when carrying heavier loads or going off trail at a slower pace). If they were non-waterproof they would be perfect, so I'll reserve a 5 star rating and some more cash for that version (if TNF ever decides to make them)

They are great for winter trail running as they support your ankles in the uneven snow/ice/mud. Funny, the first day I used them they had a loud audible clicking sound "like the old boggle game". My wife could hear them and she was in front of me. It was so annoying that I was convinced I was going to return them. Well after the 10 mile hike, the click started to go an away. The next run/hike it was totally gone. I'm so glad I didn't return them because they've been amazing this year running the trails. They are not insulated so long winter hike are not advisable.

I was very excited for these boots as they looked great and were very light however when I first put them on to go on a hike I had a sharp pain on my left ankle from the waterproof membrane as it folded and formed a kink that was pressing against my ankle. I played with it multiple times to rearrange it and it kept doing the same thing. I ended up only going up and down the stairs a few times, then decided to return them. I shipped them back and waiting for a refund
