Moosejaw Staff Pick - Jim P, Moosejaw Secret Headquarters

The North Face Men's Thermoball Full Zip Jacket is a compressible synthetic jacket for staying warm in cold, wet conditions. The Thermoball comes in at under 13 ounces and stows into its own hand pocket, hardly noticeable in your bag, but packs a warm and toasty punch when the temps drop. Each little square baffle has been filled with ThermoPlus™ insulation, and while it is synthetic, it mimics down. That means it's super lightweight, compressible, but with the added advantage of staying warm when wet. Whenever you're heading into the backcountry, grab this little wonder for loads of warmth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome lightweight jacket! This jacket is awesome for those in between days. I have both this and the hoodie version and wear them quite often. These jackets are not intended for those very cold days at all but serve their purpose well. This jacket can also be packed into one of its pockets and is portable which is a huge con. Don't hesitate purchasing this jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Serves its intended purpose well I was overall quite satisfied with this product. It is a comfortable, stylish, and useful jacket - it carries out its purpose well. There are good point about this jacket, as well as a few nitpicks I came across. The good: The good parts of the jacket outweigh the bad. First off, it looks nice. The cubic "puffiness" looks unique compared to the classic horizontal lines of "puffiness" featured on most North Face jackets. This jacket stands out against those, adding a bit of flair. Further, this would be an excellent jacket to take travelling, as its size when condensed is easy to pack. The most important aspect of this jacket is its warmth. The "Thermoball" technology must be pretty effective, as this jacket can keep you pretty toasty. I've found myself sweating in it even on 30 - 40 degree days. When the wind isn't bitter and blowing, this will keep you plenty warm. The bad: There are a few negative aspects of the Thermoball jacket as well. First off, this jacket does not keep you warm in temperatures 20 degrees or below, and does not break the wind. This wasn't my intended purpose in purchasing the jacket, but buyer beware this will not keep you warm during the bitterest, coldest months of a Northern winter. Additionally, I have a bit of a nitpicky problem with the design of the jacket itself. There is a drawstring on the very bottom that is a bit too small in proportion to the rest of the jacket and cinches in an uncomfortable way. While I have a size small Thermoball jacket, the rest of the jacket (collar, sleeves, torso) fits me perfectly - except for the very bottom cinching drawstring. It just looks and feels a bit awkward. This would be the only thing I would change about it. Overall: The jacket performs the job it is intended to. It keeps you warm in cooler temperatures, looks stylish, and condenses into a smaller size for travel and convenience. If you live in a relatively warmer climate that doesn't get bitterly cold in the winter, or if you do a lot

Rated 1 out of 5 by from garbage jacket Its a garbage jacket don't buy it. I am super mad about this jacket. I got cold wearing this jacket. Its not warm enough , insulation is very weak. wind blows right through. The only good thing about it its very light weight. All other function are poor. It also good for slim people. If you have shoulders and nice chest this jacket will be very tight on you feels very uncomfortable. So to make long story short do not buy this jacket.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Okay, needs some work. This is great casual piece. Nothing more! It lacks an inner or chest pocket. The inner pocket waist cinches are very hard to pull from inside the pocket. The newer designed pockets are at a slant with is nice, while a pack belt will cover the up. The inner sleeves panel stitching felt very cheap. Its a basic fold over and it leaves the extra material to rub and irradiate the inner bicep. It is lacking performance function in this model. It is okay at best, while there are other brand models that offer more for the same price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful, lightweight jacket I don't buy much for my 17-year-old son, who has strong opinions about fashion and function, but took a gamble on this and won. He loves it and wore it both skiing in under-20 temperatures and to school on days in the 40's. The green is really a striking color, in a good way.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wouldn't buy this product again Bought this coat thinking it would be warm and it isn't

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality at a fraction of the cost! I bought this for my son and received the jacket within two days. The jacket is very warm but conviently packs into a small space for travel. Great for cool mornings or evenings when an extra layer is needed. North Face jackets are very well made and the company pays attention to the smallest of details.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect jacket This jacket is light but warm. For me the fit is perfect, I'm 5'11(160lb). I love the dark green color. I don't care that much about fashion but this jacket looks good in a more of a dressy vs sporty way. I find I now wear it all the time, to work, out on the town or hiking in the mountains where I can add a light coat over it if temps are a few degrees below freezing.

will this keep you warm at 0 degrees?

Asked by: Bulldoggie
A goose down jacket would keep a person warmer. The Thermoball material is similar to the Patagonia Nano Puff for the synthetic insulation but it's quite thin and meant for people in active sports (i.e. stop and go activities). The heat would be kept inside the jacket to keep the person warm. If you're NOT active and basically walk around town and such, it won't keep you warm esp. it worn as an external jacket, which also applies to similar competitor's brands like the Nano puff. Rarely does any manufacturer put a warmth rating to its clothing as it really depends on what the person does and what one wears.

Does this zip into most Northface Shell jackets?

Asked by: Jonathon
Thanks for the question! Unfortunately, the Thermoball is not zip-in compatible. I would check out the Nuptse Jacket instead - as that piece will work. I included a link below for you to check out. Hope this helps! http://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_The-North-Face-Men-s-Nuptse-Jacket_10251890_10208_10000001_-1_
