However, they lack pockets on the middle thigh area as they were made previously and I had owned. This would make it convenient to carry additional items. Also need belt loops above the upper pockets-the built in belt end hangs loose and needs a place to "holster" if you will. The rear pockets need to be placed like on regular pants, not towards your side area.

You struck out with this new design...you only have ONE color (that's bogus in itself), you got rid of the cargo pockets...(REALLY, on a hiking outdoors pant...REALLY!). Epic Fail.

Unzip the legs and they become a great pair of shorts when the weather gets warm. They fit great. I'm glad TNF went back to the relaxed fit. I have a pair that were slim fit and are a little tight.

The belt is built into the pants, so you can't use your own belt if you want. And the belt is far too long, so it dangles down because the nearest loop is on the side of the hip. I will have to cut the belt and hope that then ends don't fray. We shouldn't have to work on pants to use them. I wish that I could return them now, but it is too late.

There are two XL sizes listed in your sizing chart, I'm looking for a 41"-42" waist.

Hello Stephen! Thank you for the question. An XL is the perfect size to accommodate a 41-42in waist. We offer this in "XL Short", "XL Regular", and "XL Long". The differences in these options determines the inseam length that you desire. The inseam for Short will be 30.5in, Regular is 32.5in, and Long will be 34.5in. Hopefully this helps!

I'm really confused by the size chart. I have a 35-inch waist, so I assume I need a L, but L is listed as 35-36, and also 37-38. Got a tip?

Hey Walleyenerd, thanks for the question! Sorry about the confusion around this size guide, it is The North Face's general Men's Pants guide. The Large simply covers both the 36 and 38 waist measurements, so the Large would be appropriate for a waist from 35-38". I hope this helps!

HOW to MEASURE
WAIST: Measure around the narrowest point, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

HIP: Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest point of the hip, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

FIT TYPES FITTED: A close fit, at times compressive, that starts at the natural waist and hugs the body through the seat, thigh and calf, finishing just above the ankle.

SLIM FIT: Is slim in the seat and close-to-body throughout. A straight side seam runs through the hip and thigh. Pant will be narrow through the leg, with a moderate taper from mid-thigh down.

STANDARD FIT: Is trim, but not tight, in the seat with an ease through the hip and thigh. Pant will be narrow through the leg with a moderate taper from mid-thigh down.

RELAXED FIT: Has a generous fit in the seat and is roomy through the hip and thigh. Ease through leg with a slight taper from mid-thigh down.
