Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding and versatile luggage I have used this bag on two trips to Europe for up to 12 days - durable and versatile. This bag was great, whether checked or carried on. I have since bought two more!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Regretting the changed design Didn't catch that the new design if this bag: lacks side strap handles, no locking zipper, and fewer lash loops. Will return it and look elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bomber Heavyweight duffel great for hauling loads of stuff. This bag won't complain. I really dig the handles on all four sides and the mesh pocket under the lid for storing smaller items.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from If you're serious about travelling, look further ! For such a durable looking bag, it struck me it's unable to withstand the lightest drizzle. Tied on the back of my motorcycle, my clothes were soaked after the first rain drops. Northface could have used a lighter material given any water resistance is not present. (Small and medium in use, both have the same issue) Sure it can be transported up a mountain via a yak - on very sunny days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My trusty adventure partner I have a pair of the Blackhole duffles in purple that I've owned since 2010. I have the medium as a check in bag and the small as my carry on. I am a woman of 5'4", 106lbs, athletic built and carrying the medium- fully packed is a bit much for me. The straps are not comfortable should you need to walk far with it on your back but as check in luggage it is absolutely perfect. It fits a month's worth of clothes and essentials with room to spare for souvenirs and stuff you may pick up on your travels. One thing the blackhole excels on I say durability. I've packed climbing and diving fear in it, had it manhandled in airports, busses, trains, boats and jeepneys through Southeast Asia, Europe, Australia and North America and it still looks awesome. It has scuffs here and there but overall it has held up well. It I still expensive but really, considering I'm close to getting 10 years worth of rough travelling with these babies, it is absolutely worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome bag! This bag is perfect for weekend trips! I got one for Christmas last year and got one for my boyfriend this year because he loved it so much!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from go to weekend bag My partner and I are London based and use this for all our weekend getaways in Europe. It fits everything needed for two including 2-4 pairs of shoes (we've fit two pairs of hiking boots), and 2-4-outfits each. It's less wieldly than a trecking backpack on a small commercial plane, while also being compact and duffel bag like to avoid being tagged at the gate for checking. As other commenters have noted, its not great for carrying on your back for the long haul, but great if youre hopping in and out of cars, and for a few blocks at a time. The open location is great so you can see what's inside, while also secure as the zipper sits against your back on wear. It's obviously a very informal bag so not great for business travel.

Is this the new or orginal version (with hand straps and locking zippers)?

Asked by: samcaravana
Hiya samcaravana, thanks for your question! This is the Fall 2015 version. The Spring 2018 version can be found here: https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_The-North-Face-Base-Camp-Duffel_10362000_10208_10000001_-1_. The new version has an extra side pocket and more handles but the zippers do not lock. Hope this helps!
