What are the weight limitations for your tents to prevent damage to the tent or vehicle? I weigh 280 and my husband weighs 250. I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and would have to have aftermarket rails installed.

Asked by: LifestyleofWandering
Hey there! So, the average car has a roof capacity of 165 pounds while in motion. That is the important part. That means the weight of this tent (124lbs), the weight of whatever rails you have installed plus racks cannot exceed 165 pounds while you are driving the car. Once stationary, the car's roof plus the physics of the roof rack dispersing additional weight makes it so you can typically triple the weight on the roof. The XL Tepui can support up to 620 pounds (it's frame does the work here). The ladder for this tent can support 320 pounds so make sure only one person is going up or down at a time. But, make sure you don't attempt to drive your car remotely from the comfort of this tent ;) Remember, for best results: park, stabilize / level the car, deploy tent and have a great time!
