Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like shoulder straps & hip belt so well we bought 2 The 115-ltr Pro Pack is our Favorite BWCAW pack, we own two. Our gear pack purchased in 2008 weighs 49-lb loaded and our kitchen pack purchased in 2016 weighs 42-lb loaded. They get used on three to five canoe trips to the BWCAW each year and allow us to cross the portages in one trip. These heavy duty dry packs have my vote, we really like the shoulder straps and hip belt of the Pro Pack.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Test out this pack before you head out... I use a ton of products by Cascade Designs and almost, always, only have great things to say about them... except for this pack and then the subsequent phone call to their warranty department. I bought this pack less than two weeks ago so that I could travel more easily with my younger kids on our backcountry adventures. On our first trip, 10 minutes into our first portage the buckle on the shoulder strap 'popped' and let go. Luckily, I managed to maintain my balance and over the course of the trip made due with a buckle that simply wouldn't hold. This wasn't a big deal in my mind since products can sometimes have issues... until I started to research this product online to learn that this seems to be a known issue. This is a pack that is used in fairly precarious conditions and in the middle of no where. The potential for injury is high if a buckle gives way unexpectedly. I called the warranty department and all they were willing to do was provide me a tracing number, have me ship the bag on my dime across the country only for them to determine if it was in fact defective. And IF it was defective they would then let me know if they would repair or replace. A brand new piece of gear that failed on it's first use, that will now cost me even more to get serviced. I intended to use this for the summer, and once shipped I have no idea when I will get it back. Cascade - this gear should be tested before it is sent out and when there is an issue a simple apology and easy way to get this pack switched out would be great. Your a good company with great products - do better with this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Painfully Disappointed I decided to invest in this pack a few weeks ago, and was really excited to use it on a 5-day canoe trip. It is a perfect size for two people (2-person tent, sleeping bags, sleeping mats and clothing), the material is really tough and waterproof, and the padding on the harness system makes it more comfortable than any other portage pack I have used. BUT... sadly it has a major design flaw. The bottom of the shoulder straps are attached with plastic clips, which started failing two days into the canoe trip - first popping out while hoisting the pack onto our backs, and eventually just popping out while carrying the pack - causing some jarring back pain having the pack fall off one shoulder while carrying a canoe. The pack was by no means overloaded or too heavy. It just seems like a very bad place for a clip, or the clip being used is not strong enough for a 115 litre pack. We ended up duck-taping the clips together, which still came apart occasionally. I wanted to love this pack, but if it doesn't stay on my back, then it is not doing its job.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's pretty good except for the buckles I use it for canoe tripping. As another reviewer has said, the buckles on the shoulder straps are a real WEAKNESS. I ended up using wire and gorilla tape on them as I got really tired of having the buckles let go when putting the pack on or when I placed any strain on the shoulder straps. Apart from that the bag gives me peace of mind knowing it'll keep my gear dry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from do not buy this pack As an outdoor professional I strongly discourage you from buying htis pack. The reason why I purchased this pack was for the hip belt system. This system fails under any load and or dynamic movement. the buckles are weak and do not hold up on a trip. the buckles are poorly placed in the design in which they take all the weight in your pack

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, this is a great bag! This pack worked great for me last September in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. If you chose the load right, you can maximize the space. I never had an issue with pack on over 20 portages with a full pack. It worked great, especially for someone who is more used to Western Rivers's where the portages are comparatively few. Thanks for your great products - and yes Im a fan from Oregon. ;)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not well thought out I purchased this pack for an upcoming 6 week canoe trip in northern Canada. I have an old NRS Paragon Pack (discontinued) that is still working, however I needed an additional pack for more gear/food. The Pro Pack is well built, however Seal Line's quest for a removable suspension is questionable. The addition of the quick release buckles compromise strength (one reviewer has already had numerous failures), and inhibit the adjustment of the pack while under load. With 55 pounds in the pack, neither the shoulder straps nor the shoulder tensioners could be adjusted while on my back, requiring taking the pack off to adjust them. Also, the addition of quick release buckles at the waist tensioner precludes snugging up the tensioners as attached due to the extra length associated with the buckles. If you rip a seam and redo the straps, you can make it work. I really question the need for a removable suspension for such a pack. Without the suspension, it's just a very large (110 liter!) bag with only a single top loop with which to grab. I would think that with the size of the pack, and its intended use (canoeing), the designers would fashion a pack designed as a load hauler, with more substantial paddling on the shoulder straps and hip belt, and robust and reliable buckles which function adequately when portaging. The use of quick release buckles needlessly increases the complexity of what should be a basic portage pack, and reduces its reliability and function.
