Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these! Excellent for hiking and trail running. Light and comfortable with traction you need to not slide on slippery rocks and uneven ground. Also, the colors are fun and the shoe is overall stylish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these shoes! I bought these a little over a month and a half ago. I have had plenty of time to try these out before my OCR and fell in love with them as a trail running shoe. I’ve never really had specific shoes for this in the past years and I am happy to state that these are absolutely wonderful!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for technical trails I have had the speedcrosses for almost a year now. I have a pair with the Goretex membrane and one without. I initially bought them for winter running to have traction in the snow without have to wear spikes. They perform unbelievably in the snow and they are the only shoe I wear in the snow. I have done very steep hiking in them without having to put on the spikes. I loved them so much in the winter that I got a pair to wear in the summer as well. I feel more sure footed in them than I have in any other shoe. The really hold the foot in place and are very responsive. The only downfall I have found with these shoes is that they don't do as well on wet granite slab than other salomon shoes I wear. As a climber I am used to being on rock and very familiar with techniques for how to best ascend slabs and I feel that the speedcrosses don't perform as well on wet granite as I would expect. Over all these are a great shoe and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a comfortable and technical shoe!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from definitely more narrow than previous versions I bought this about 8 months ago and finally used them for 1 day. These are definitely much more narrow than previous versions. I never had a problem in the previous versions but these really rub my outer foot. I thought that perhaps this one would need to be broken in. I've never had to break in Salomons before so this was a surprise. In addition to that, I think I may have received a defective one because the arch region of the left shoe, has a design flaw inside to where it feels as though I am walking with a twig glued inside to my arch. I was in more pain that day than I've ever been with any running shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect shoes for wet and rocky terrain Broke these out last weekend for the first time for a 50k training run -- 33ish miles, 8,900+ ft of elevation gain -- and they were *perfect*. I have wide, square feet and typically wear Altras for the roomy toe box space. But I'm training for a 100 miler on equally rough terrain and I really want something with good grip. Great footing on technical downhills, never felt like I was going to slip on slippery rocky and muddy roots, even when after it started pouring rain. And of course, the quicklace system is awesome. Two thumbs up for sure.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Details on specifics not advertised Firstly: I love Salomon shoes. I have two pair and this was my third, which I am returning because the shoe, although designed for mud runs, were very loose on my ankle, even though I had tightened them as tight as they would go on my feet. I have slightly fallen arches, and the arch of this shoe is very high, which was for me, uncomfortable. I also have slightly narrow feet, which makes it hard to find a shoe that holds on to my ankle, but their hiking boots and X-Mission3 shoes do great for me. These just weren't a good fit; fyi for those with narrower feet.

I typically wear a 6.5 in all my athletic shoes, except for running (I wear a 7.5). I want to use these for softball & want a little wiggle room but not as much as my running shoes. When I do the true fit it says a 6.5 but I want to double check.

Asked by: jules
Hiya jules, thanks for your question! Yep, this shoe runs true-to-size. Keep in mind that Salomon shoes tend to fit narrow in general. So if you have wide feet, you might want to pick a different style or brand. Hope this helps!

I run on pavement but mainly loose and muddy trails. Will these shoes provide enough shock absorption while running on pavement from time to time?

Asked by: Delila
Thanks for the question! The Speedcross 4 Shoe has an EVA midsole - which is a popular choice in heel shock absorption. That midsole is full covered and is the main source of cushioning. I would also consider the X-Mission 3 Shoe. It has the same EVA midsole, but this shoes was designed to be both on-road & off-road compatible. In addition, it offers "High Abrasion Contagrip" traction, while the Speedcross has "Wet Traction Contagrip' traction. If you think you will spend the majority off your time trail running, then I think the Speedcross has plenty of shock absorption for the short runs on pavement. I included a link below to check out the X-Mission 3 just in case. I hope this helps! https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Salomon-Women-s-X-Mission-3-Shoe_10366970_10208_10000001_-1_

Would these shoes be good for walking on ice across parking lots? I'm looking for a shoe that grips like a boot, but without the clunkiness of a boot.

Asked by: JenG
Hiya JenG! Thanks for your question! First of all, I always recommend using caution when walking on ice. Unless you are wearing crampons on the bottom of your shoes, there will be some slippage. That said, this shoe is an excellent alternative to boots. It is designed to provide traction on a variety of surfaces... dirt, snow, road, etc. The trouble is that this shoe will not keep your foot very warm. Another option would be to purchase a pair of crampons that you can wear with shoes you already have. The Hillsound Trail Crampon slips over your shoe without clamps or buckles. Check it out: http://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Hillsound-Trail-Crampon_10233271_10208_10000001_-1_ Hope this helps!

If you are unsure which shoe size to purchase, please follow the following steps:

1. Use a shoe box or a wall with a 90 degree angle.

2. Find a sheet of paper or a sheet of cardboard, a ruler and a pen.

3. Make sure that you are wearing the same socks that you would normally wear with this type of shoe.

4. Wearing these socks, stand on the sheet of paper and place the outside of your foot against the wall or place your foot in the shoe box with you heel wedged firmly against the back.

5. Then us your pen and ruler to draw a line just in front of your big toe. Repeat with the other foot, as right and left sizes may be different.

6. Measure the distance between the wall or the side of the shoebox and the line that you have just drawn.

7. Find this measurement in Centimeters in the size chart above.
