The Salewa Men's MS Wildfire Vent Shoe is an approach shoe for technical trails and getting on your way to the climb. A rand at the toe for protection giving way to a Vibram® Tech Approach EVO outsole with Megagrip compound. Sticky and touch for the right kind of traction on the different terrain you'll meet. The laces extend to the toe and work with the Exa Shell grid structure for a fit that stays put.

The mountains outside of Albuquerque have steep trails of granite scree which is the slipperiest and most unforgiving hiking surface imaginable and the soles of these shoes know how to get a grip which is what I want in a hiking shoe. My flat feet feel well supported. I haven't taken them back packing but there's no reason why I wouldn't.

From style, fit, durability, and the price they rock my world. I can't picture myself wearing another hiking shoe. I can only wish my other equipment purchases were as consistent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Richago from Comfortable for narrow feet. Toebox, and the shoe in general, is narrower than average. The tongue also seems to come farther back/higher up my foot than most low-cut shoes. These have a lot of mesh and ventilate well, but let silt percolate through and also water as the mesh goes down to the sole on the fore foot. They have deeply padded sole that I have felt comfortable jogging and running in. Very secure fit and stiffer sole that lets you grip with just an edge. This is my second set; durabilty of the first was average, but I otherwise have really enjoyed them! I normally wear a 9.5, but fit a 10 in these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Flatlander from Disappointed I really, really wanted to like these shoes, but wanting is not enough. Originally ordered a 10 (my standard size) but I couldn’t get a secure fit. Returned for a 9.5 and it felt decent in the store. After wearing for a couple of weeks, they have broken in, in the worst way. While the climbing lacing allows for a lot of adjustment in theory, the plastic rand and cage are completely unforgiving. Cinching the laces down is restrictive, loosening to a comfortable fit allows movement in both the heel and around the ball of the foot. I am constantly adjusting throughout even short hikes as my foot or the terrain changes. Laces create pressure along the top of the foot no matter how they are laced. Proceed with caution.
