Rated 5 out of 5 by from A reliable, lightweight soft bottle. I've only used these lightly so far, but thus far, they've held up rather well. They're not going to withstand the same abuse as the Tritan bottles you might be retiring for weight reasons, but they're not exactly flimsy either. I'd say this product threads the needle on lightweight durability pretty well. The second advantage, beyond weight, is volume. Lots of UL hikers use Smart or other commercial water bottles. In fact, those bottles often have a better weight:storage ratio than these. What these let you do is pack down your empty bottles to basically nothing. You can also carry extra capacity easily, something which can prove useful in certain situations. Of course, that flimsiness can be annoying at times, and they're slightly harder to drink from, or pack into mesh side pockets, than rigid containers, but you eventually learn to work around that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and Packable! I purchased two of these to use backpacking and on hiking trips. They are light, durable, and only take up as much space as the water you have in them! No more bulky waterbottles that take up space even when empty. When they are empty you can just roll or fold them up to free up space!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for limited use Bought this to save on the weight of nalgene bottles and to save some room as well. The bag was very flexible and worked well. Only complaint was that it was very difficult to clean afterward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight and durable I bought this water bottle for backpacking trips and it is great! I've had it for about a year and it is just as dependable as the day I got it. I love that is fits with my Sawyer Mini water filter, that is a huge bonus. Basically, you can't go wrong with this water bottle if you plan on hiking or backpacking.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light, compact, and relatively durable Used two as my only bottles for 211 miles on the JMT this summer. Overall great bottles, easy to drink out of and easy to store rolled up in a pack or pant pocket.,,,,I did however manage to break one near the end of the trip. I dropped a full bottle from chest height with the cap on and the plastic split alone the seam up near the neck. The split was about a centimeter long, and while I put tape over the hole, the nature of the flexible bottle meant that it would constantly be under pressure while in a pocket and would force some water through the tape. Arguable this was a fluke, as I've dropped them many times and this was the only problem I've had with one breaking.,,,,The only major disadvantage to this bottle is that they can't be filled from a pool or river of water. They can't hold their shape underwater so they only get about half full. They either need to be held under a water fall, or be filled from another container to fill up all the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite Used this for a 4-5 day backpacking trip in 8000-10000 feet elevation at Red Mountain Basin in John Muir Wilderness. Fits well on the side pocket of my Osprey Exos 58. Mainly for drinking while hiking. I had one of these + 1L smart water + 2L Platy. 4L total capacity was plenty for our trip. Light weight, great capacity, clean taste, collapsible, durable, impact resistant. I like the closure cap, not a huge fan of the push pull or hyper flow. Push pull and hyper flow caps are just harder to clean compared to the simplicity of the closure cap. Only problem is hard to fill in lake or stream. I used a rigid smart water bottle to fill up in lake or stream and pour into this 1L platy. Any rigid water bottle/Gatorade would work. One more small complaint is that is takes a long time to dry at home with the cap off. Takes like 3 days to dry. Not a big deal. I still love this water bottle and will be my go to for backpacking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Platypus fits anywhere! Now that I have one, I'm surprised everyone doesn't own at least one Platypus. Even if you don't anticipate getting thirsty, it's so easy to stick a few ounces of water in your pocket, pocketbook, fanny pack, even an evening purse just in case the need arises! Never be caught thirsty again! The Platypus is very sturdy, but extremely flexible and lightweight. You can fill it all the way, or just take a little water and roll the rest of the bottle out of the way. Also stands well on its own whether full or with just a few ounces of water.

Can it hold hot water?

Asked by: ma99
Hey there! The SoftBottle is BPA free, so there is no harm of activating chemical run offs. There are a few cautions about putting hot water in soft bottles: 1) Pouring water in a Softbottle is a messy challenge with its small receptacle and if that water were hot, that could be a painful mess. 2) There is absolutely no protective insulation on this bottle. Be very difficult to hold / handle as the heat will just pipe through. That being said, with proper precautions (have it wrapped in a towel) I know people that put these bottles at the foot of their sleeping bag with hot water in it to act as a little foot warmer. But, please, take great care as you definitely do not want to be nursing a burn out on the trail where infections set in faster than a blink of the eye.
