Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lifespan? This product is great, don't get me wrong. And I love the fact that you can purchases pieces of the GravityWorks line without replacing the entire thing. My clean and dirty bladders were fine but after a few years of being packed away, the filter must have dried out. I only had 2 or 3 trips on the original filter but we probably put 16 - 20 liters through it each time. Was surprised that it wouldn't filter when I pulled it out of my pack 3 years later, but after 60 liters, it was probably due for a replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High-Volume Gravity-Fed Water Filter System Happy with Gravityworks Filter Cartridge, which I am using in a custom-made, large-volume gravity-fed water filtration system for water on large-group wilderness canoeing trips. Gravity-fed water filter systems for purchase are relatively low volume (several liters at a time), so made custom system using the GravityWorks filter that can filter larger water quantities (15-20L water) at a time. Use two GSI Outdoors Folding Water Cubes with 1/2" vinyl hose and 1/2"x1/4" nylon reducer couplings clamped on Water Cube spigots. Then connect couplings on Water Cubes with 1/4" hose with GravityWorks Filter Cartridge and Carbon Element in line. System works great with Gravityworks filters to supply enough water in wilderness for larger groups. Good prices on filter cartridge elements from Moosejaw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great system I just returned from hiking 1100 miles on the AT. The first 750 miles I used a sawyer mini to filter water for my wife and me and this was a chore I dreaded with a passion. In Blacksburg VA I bought a gravity works and it was awesome. I no longer dreaded the chore of getting water and could do 4L in a few minutes. The system is still working but seems to have slowed a bit so I have some concerns about longevity. I do back flush frequently so it might just be my perception that it's slowing. Overall, I can't say enough about how great this system is and how it made my life on the trail easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would purchase and also recommend to friends I've had the system for many years now. We just got back from a trek in New Mexico. There were 11 in our group. When necessary, we filtered stream water. The gravity unit worked extremely well. Back flushing after using made a HUGE difference. There was also, a backup pump filtration system someone brought. We were able to gravity filter 4 gallons in the time it took to pump one liter of water. Because of the potential for viruses in the region we were in, we additionally used chemical tablets to assure clean water.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Filter I have had the gravity filter for a couple of months, and i have had great results. It isn't any faster than a pump filter, but it is nice to walk away while it works. I couldn't see myself going back to a pump filter. I do have concerns that larger chunks of debris will lodge and clog the input. It would be nice to have some prefilter feature. I bought this item in pieces; i did initial buy the hose kit. The filter barb and oem hoses seem to be 3/8", while many other filters use what i think is 1/4"; so make sure you have the right size hose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this filter! My favorite camp tool. I have owned mine for over two years. It has done a variety of car camping. Large group 100 mile treks, Small group ultra light 50 mile sprints. The weight is slightly higher then some other kits, and far lighter then most, but the ease of use more then makes up for it. Plus I use the clean bag or my pack water bladder as my primary hydration tool in lieu of bottles or a third bag, I just detach the clean hose from the filter and put a bite valve on. So my complete water/hydration kit weight is lighter or extremely close to any ultra light setup I've directly compared it to. Using it is a breeze, I've not had any other system even come close. I own a Sweetwater and Katadyn, and good friends have the sawyer squeeze and mini. So many hours of my life spent pumping water. Gravityworks is the only filter that gets used if I'm there. Regardless how many people in the group or how long we intend to stop. On a hike through Zions park recently the water sources were difficult but they would've been with any system. I used my camp cup/pot to collect and then pour into my dirty bag. Since anything from the cup would be boiled anyway. But I still washed and rinsed the cup with now fresh filtered water on principle. Can't recommend it highly enough. You absolutely will not regret the purchase. I've filtered some murky/ silt filled water and it still came out delicious. I backflush regularly, it's sometimes shocking what comes out after.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter I bought this filter to use with some ADK high peak trips, and various canoe portages. It works great, fixes taste, color, no second guessing a water source. The only issue I have is that the cartage is not the easiest to dry after use. While I leave it out in the sun for a few warm dry days, it would be nice if there was a way to ensure it was dry and not subject to mold.
