The Patagonia Women's R1 Hoody is a fleece midlayer for mountain ascents in cold weather. Pull over the Polartec® Power Grid™ fleece and you'll not only revel in the next-to-skin softness, but enjoy the warmth it offers when moving fast along the mountainous trail. Climbing or hiking, on ice or snow, even if it's a bit of mixed terrain, the fabric wicks moisture, dries quickly and insulates. Thumbholes ensure sleeves stay in place, even when pulling an extra layer or shell over top and a deep half zip at the center allows heat to escape quickly when your body temperature rises. A hood for the head that even warms the ears and a chest pocket for your secret stash.

FEATURES of the Patagonia Women's R1 Hoody

Polartec Power Grid

Polartec Power Grid
Polartec Power Grid is a fleece fabric with a grid pattern. The grid design allows the fabric to wick moisture away from the skin, dry quickly, and increase breathability. It also allows the apparel piece to be lightweight and compress down for packing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love for layering! I’ll be honest; this isn’t a “flattering” fleece, and it is surprisingly longer than I thought, hits just about mid hip, but it is a perfect layering piece. I will wear it over a tee/tank camping this summer, under a vest in the fall, and under my down coat in the winter. It will come in handy for ski season too. It was the missing layering piece in my wardrobe! I purchased the black medium, and for reference, I’m 5’4, 140 lbs, and it is roomy. I thought the small wouldn’t allow for as many layering options. Overall, happy with purchase- would love if it came in blue or gray! ;)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Style and Technically Stellar, but... Unfortunately, I cannot fit into Patagonia's sizing. I am tall (5'10") and thin (125) with long arms and broad shoulders. A small is always too short and a medium is always too big in the chest/body... I keep trying with this company because I love the clothes. Too bad. :-(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece! Love the jacket. Great mid layer for climbing or touring, keeps me warm and dry but not too hot. I do feel like it might fit big. I’m a pretty solid medium (or sometimes a men’s small in Patagonia) and I felt like I could even size down one. Either way nice and long, and thumb holes to keep the hands toasty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So warm! I have 3 of the old version which I love. It's the only reason I am giving this 4 stars. I miss the back stretchy panel and the 1/4 zip. The 1/2 zip hits right at my bellybutton and that is uncomfortable. Other than that, it's warm and the sleeves are long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good skiing layer This turns out to be a very good alpine skiing layer. The hood fits tightly around the face and can go under a helmet. The zipper brings the garment right up under the nose keeping the face protected and warm. The thumb loops keep cold air from infiltrating at the wrists and the R1 insulation is breathable but warm under a shell or a shell and down sweater on very cold days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hoddy! I got this hoody because I wanted a warm, easy to wear and not too bulky sweater/jacket. This choice was perfect! Great material and I love the color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It! I purchased this as a lightweight but warm fleece to take on my CDT thru hike this year. I've worn it for several hiking trips so far and it's great! Really nice design too so it crosses over into "normal" clothes not just for hiking. Hopefully it holds up for 6 months of brutality on the CDT :)
