The Patagonia Women's Down Sweater Hoody is a winter jacket for technical use such as winter hiking or skiing as well as casual outings like backyard campfires. The outer shell features a lightweight yet durable 100% recycled polyester ripstop, and a durable water repellent finish to deter light rains or snows. With 800-fill power down packed all the way around and up through the hood, you'll keep body heat trapped and stay toasty warm out there. The jacket compresses down small, into its own chest pocket in fact, so you can bring it along on any trip that may potentially turn chilly. Forget your hairstyle and pull up the hood to keep your ears toasty for the rest of the day. I'm sure your hair will forgive you later.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for transitional weather I had bought one of these for my son and he loves it so I finally got one too. It’s perfect. I still get really cold in the spring so this jacket fits the bill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great workhorse insulator for 3-season backpacking This hoody is well-tailored, warm, versatile, and durable. I wear a size medium (5'6'' ~140 lbs athletic build), which is long enough to cover my lower back when I squat, reach, etc. The black color is attractive and the cut is slim (doesn't look like a shiny trash bag like many other down jackets). It is warm enough for spring, summer and fall adventures in the backcountry of California, and I love that Patagonia sources their down responsibly. The collar buffets from the cold well, and the elastic cinches at the waist are very helpful for that as well. I use this layer as an after-hiking or early morning layer on backpacking trips, a belay jacket at the crag or on day-long routes if it's shady or shoulder season, car camping, under a denim jacket around town, whatever. The only thing I wouldn't use this layer for is high-intensity exercise in snow/cold weather (backcountry skiing, etc)--I'd want a lighter layer that's more breathable in the underarms, and also one that's waterproof. I try not to let this layer get exposed to more than a light drizzle. But it layers well under a rain shell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight, not super super warm, but warm enough I bought this jacket a couple weeks ago, and it has been in pretty constant use since I’ve moved to coastal British Columbia in Canada. It’s pretty cold up here in the mountains despite it being June. The jacket does not have any dirty down smell, and it is fairly warm. Warm enough when moving around and working, but not quite warm enough to sit outside day or night when there is a strong wind (which is pretty much always). I wear this with the Better Sweater pullover, and I’m “functionally” cold rather than frozen to death. Haha. When hiking in the forest the weight of the jacket is perfect, and because I’m moving and exercising, the warmth is definitely sufficient. I decided to buy the down rather than the synthetic insulation because I’ll be traveling to the Himalayas (not climbing mountains) in the winter, and last time I was so cold it was unbearable. I was hoping this jacket would be super super warm and would provide me with enough insulation to survive the harsh Himalayan winter evenings but unfortunagely it barely holds up to Canadian summers. Sad... The jacket itself is pretty high quality. I’ve walked through light rain and for the most part it is water resistant. I notice a few flumes of feathers on my sweater when taking off the jacket, but not too much. I am 5’3 and 115 pounds. The automatic sizing tool on Patagonia’s website sized me as a small, and that’s what I purchased, but I wish I had gotten an extra small. the abdomin portion of the jacket is sort of big and puffed out, so maybe that’s why it feels so drafty when it’s cold and windy...? Hope this helps!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Jacket I've wanted a hooded waterproof jacket for a long, long time! They had this one at 20% off so I had to grab it. Fits perfectly — I'm 5'5" and bought a Medium. Great quality and really comfortable. I was worried about it being too thick and heavy and would get too hot, but it's breathable. Recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite go-to! Overall awesome! Ordered it on a Monday and it was at my house by Wednesday! Fits true to size and the hood is truly my favorite part - the neck zips up nice and high to keep you warm when needed. So far no complaints!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket...warmer than expected! Have had this jacket for a few weeks and although it is supposed to be spring, winter has refused to leave. I am surprised at its exceptional warmth given it is lightweight. It is extremely well made and I am loving the contrasting color trim on it. Worth the money!

Does anyone know what temperature this is rated to? Could it be used as an outerlayer for Alaska in February? Or is something warmer going to be necessary? (Assume I wouldbe having a few layers beneath that are weather appropriate).

Asked by: crj1036
Hiya, thanks for your question. While this isn't a "winter jacket" or parka, you can wear this as an outerlayer, Warmth is different for each person's own body temperature, so I would definitely layer accordingly. Hope this helps!

Is this the most recent version, with the longer, rounded hem in back?

Asked by: Fishstix
Hiya Fishstix, thanks for your question! This jacket does have a slight rounded hem in the back, but it looks pretty natural. It hasn't been changed for the past few seasons, so even previous season colors will fit the same. Hope this helps!
