The Patagonia Men's Hyper Puff Hoody is a lightweight, synthetic insulation layer for cold weather protection. 100g of insulation all the way around will keep you nice and toasty, and strategic baffle patterning keeps the garment close to the body while ensuring freedom of movement. HyperDAS™ insulation is neat because it's super packable and super lofty, creating a large pocket of dead air space around your body. This high-performance piece ensures warmth retention even when wet, making it an excellent hooded insulation option when adverse conditions are expected.

DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Pertex Quantum

Pertex Quantum
Pertex Quantum is lightweight, windproof and abrasion resistant. Its strength-to-weight ratio is optimized to protect your insulation and maximize loft, thus trapping more warm air. This all adds up to you being warm and cozy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always warms Traveled with this jacket to the Altay mountains. Often there was bad weather - rain, snow, strong wind, cold. The jacket is warm even when it is wet and quickly dries in the base camp. Uncomfortable to work in the harness, the zipper on the jacket is not unbuttoned from below. Good stuff for summer mountaineering.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a belay jacket Returned product as it did not fit my needs as a belay jacket, which really needs to have a dual zipper. Warmth to weight ratio and pack-ability were also not what I had hoped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Puffy This puffy is super warm, without making me sweat when I go into a store. My only two wishes would be front adjusters on the hood (only adjustment is on the back), and I wish it packed down smaller). However, I don't mind the bigger pack size due to the warmth of this puffy. It's immediately warm when I put it on, has a nice front zipper, two hand pockets, and a chest pocket that my phone fits into perfectly. I love how snug the arms fit, keeping me nice and toasty. A pocket (I think it's a stretchy mesh material), is inside the jacket. If you want to read an awesome five-star review, check the Outdoor Gear Lab site. Oh, the hood makes the wearer look like a cone-head, but it's super warm. I walk around with just a short-sleeve shirt underneath. The cuffs have this elastic on the inside, which makes them super super well. Stuff sack included, but I may eventually upgrade to a compression sack to find out if this item will compress more. It's rare I give anything five stars, either due to the product or the warranty of a product. Patagonia has an iron clad guarantee, and the product meets my standards. Nothing is perfect, but this is close to it. It's like climbing into a warm sleeping bag, yet better because you can wear this around. I purchased black, which I really like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Utilitarian / lightweight parka! Bought this coat a month ago to stay warm in sub zero Canadian temps while traveling in Alberta. This coat packs down brilliantly, and provides incredible warmth despite negative temps. Love the hood & down density- surprisingly dense warmth / weight ratio- huge fan!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome jacket This jacket is so light, when I brought the box in I thought there must have been a mistake, but it was the jacket! It is very comfortable and incredibly warm. It looks nice, not too puffy if you know what I mean. Moosejaw gave me the best price and I am so happy with the entire experience.

Would this be warmer than the down sweater  hoody from Patagonia?

Asked by: Dusty
Hiya Dusty, thanks for your question! Yes, Hyper Puff Hoody is warmer than the Down Sweater Jacket. It is more comparable to the Hi-Loft Hoody than the Down Sweater Jacket, which is definitely warmer. Hope this helps!
