DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boys' Coat My son (12) recently outgrew his last Patagonia coat, so he helped me pick this one out (in black/grey) online. It fits great and looks very handsome & sporty on. He describes it as "comfy, and it fits well."

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Delicate and weak fabric This jacket cannot withstand even minimal use by a child - its target audience. The fabric is weak, delicate and will split open for as simple a reason as sitting on the portion of the jacket that extends below the waist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from favorite coat ever Since moving to rainy Seattle I've been looking for a rain-friendly replacement for my winter parka, and this coat absolutely fits the bill. In the last month I've worn it in both a downpour and freezing weather during my daily commuting and the coat has kept me warm and dry through everything. It's really lightweight and I love that the hood and sleeves have elastic to protect against drafts. I've had bad luck with water resistant coats in the past, but I'm extremely impressed by the coating on this one--even the nylon on the body and sleeves doesn't absorb water droplets. As for sizing, in Patagonia I'm a womens XXS-XS and I went with the boys XL for this coat. It's a little roomy (good for layering) but I think an L would have been a little too constricting. I love this coat so much that I bought one for my mom, who routinely spends time outdoors in sub-freezing temps, and she is also a fan. I really hope that Patagonia extends this line, I would love to see girls and adult sizes with hoods!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and comfortable I bought this for my Kindergartener-easy to zip, hood is perfect for him to just pull on. I know I won’t have to worry about him being cold at recess!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket Bought this for my son recently, was delivered promptly and quality is excellent as you would expect from Patagonia. The jacket will last far longer then it will fit him!
