The Patagonia Black Hole 25L Pack is an urban backpack that is ready for travel, trail, work or gym. The smallest member of the Black Hole family has been constructed with 450D, 100% polyester ripstop with a TPU-film laminate and durable water repellent finish. The result is a ridiculously durable, highly water resistant pack that will hold onto just enough gear for the day. The u-shaped lid creates a bucket-style opening, so even if you forget to zip the top, most of your stuff won't really fall out, unless your friends are real jerks and start pulling things out of it. A padded sleeve at the interior will hold up to 15 inch laptops while the molded backpanel on the exterior cushions the load against your back. Smaller stash pockets throughout hold pens if you still use those but you're probably better off storing snacks. Stretch mesh at the sides for holding onto your hydration vessel and a burly daisy chain at the front so you can clip a carabiner on, so all your friends know you're a bad ass climber. Or find fancy new ways to lash additional gear to the exterior.

FEATURES of the Patagonia Black Hole 25L Pack

  • Padded shoulder harness and a sternum strap ensure a comfortable and secure carry; compression-molded back panel sheds moisture and allows airflow; side compression straps help manage different size loads

DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bomber backpack, minimalist features This backpack is top-both in terms of quality. One large compartment that just swallows up gear/laptop/extras. Minimal organization on the inside, which works fine for me, but may be a pain if you bring lots of cords / do-dads. The only knock against it is the lack of waist straps somewhat limits it’s off-road utility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yasss Patagonia yassssss I bought this when I realized my other backpack didn't have enough space (it was great for days I just needed a laptop and some documents but I realized I needed space for scrubs, change of shoes, etc.). I had been eyeing this pack for awhile (I love the color black) and I decided to try it out. It's been absolutely great. The different pockets it has are perfect for what I need - it has a laptop sleeve, a pocket in front of my laptop sleeve where I keep my stethoscope, some smaller pockets for tools and pens, and two side water-bottle-sized pockets where I keep a water bottle and an umbrella. The large and front small pockets are also really handy for all of those miscellaneous items I carry, like hand cream and makeup and name tags. Super super convenient. It's also rained pretty heavily on the bag and the slick material makes it easy for rain to slide off. I also have enough space inside the bag to keep a change of clothes and shoes for the gym. In fact, the interior is so spacious that I can fit my knee length winter down parka in there. It's also very obvious that this bag is high quality. The back pad is this dense foam(?) material with grooves to let air circulate, there are plenty of loops to attach things and grab the bag from, the outer material itself seems pretty durable, and since Patagonia is such a great company I know from prior experience that their stuff is going to last. Really glad I bought this beautiful bag! And it helps that it matches my Patagonia black hole duffel too (I have the 60L one).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great everyday bag I bought this bag 3 months ago for travel, hiking and school. The bag is just a tad bit oversized for fitting under airplane seats, but still works well. Great bag for everyday use, carrying a laptop, some notebooks and water. Only thing I would change would be to add a waist strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag, good waterproofing I used this backpack on a cruise in Alaska where it rained each day we were outside. This bag keep all my stuff dry effortlessly, and was able to fit everything I needed. The back padding and straps also dried quickly. I also especially like the way this backpack opens. The opening is plenty wide, and really allows you to stuff a puffy jacket or whatever into the bag since the zipper doesn't extend down the sides. Additionally, this bag is a great size for traveling on airplanes. I used this bag as one of my personal items on a Southwest Airlines flight, and the bag fit perfectly under the seat in front of me. I was able to turn it sideways and have tons of foot room, and open it to get snacks out of the top pocket with ease. This bag was definitely one of the best purchases I have made for traveling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect backpack I've had this for a few months now, and it's absolutely ideal. It keeps my laptop dry in the rain, the chest strap is comfortable, and the teal color is gorgeous. I love the pouch on the top, it's like a super-accessible pencil case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holds everything and keeps it dry! I bought this pack right before heading to Ireland to study abroad and hike for a month. It appealed to me because it seemed like the perfect pack to do triple duty as a carry-on, a daypack, and a schoolbag. This pack fits so much! I brought this and a carry-on for the overhead for a 5 week trip, and used this as a weekend bag on various weekend trips. I got caught in the rain nearly every day, and this always kept everything nice and dry, even in a few pretty heavy downpours (just make sure the top pocket zipper is securely under the guard). The padding for your back could use a bit more ventilation, but compensates for this issue by remaining comfortable throughout 15-mile hikes. I am obsessed with this pack and bring it everywhere!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect pack I bought this for a trip to Disney and for hiking. It's the perfect size and color. Lots of room in the inside and I can fit tons of stuff in the pack. Thanks, Patagonia for a perfect backpack!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic every-day commute pack I've been using this for a month, and it's fantastic. On a daily basis, I carry a jacket, laptop and/or tablet, a few books, and earphones. Not even half full, which is perfect for having space for a quick grocery run, or storage for a bike lock and helmet, or a change of clothes for athletics. Really well-organized -- just enough pockets. I love the handle on the daisy chain, and above the shoulder straps. Clean design, comfortable with light to moderate loads, great buy!

Does this backpack have a waist strap?

Asked by: Harris
Hey Harris, Thanks for the question. Unfortunately this does not have a waist strap. It does however have a chest strap that you can use to secure it around the front.
