The Outdoor Research Women's Ferrosi Pants are softshell pants for standing up to the rigors of hiking and climbing. The Ferrosi is lightweight and breathable so you won’t overheat, while maintaining durability so you can scramble up rock, hike through tall grass, and climb over trees that have fallen across the path. The blend of nylon and spandex provides wind resistance while allowing plenty of stretch and movement. The durable water repellent finish provides water resistance in a light rain. A standard fit allows for plenty of space if you decide to add a base layer underneath. The drawstring at the waist keeps the pants up or add a belt to utilize the belt loops. Two front pockets with zippered back and thigh pockets secure smaller items to your person.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pants. Hiking and backpacking favourites

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pants; not really that long Overall, I loved these pants. They are very comfortable and breathable. I ordered the 6 long because the regular version of this pant was ridiculously short. While they are definitely longer, they are not really that long. I am 5'9 and they just barely hit the ground. Luckily that works perfectly for me and my height, but I can't imagine how someone taller could make these work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite climbing pants ever I struggle to find pants that 1) fit and 2) don't rip after a few weeks of rock climbing. Except for these! They fit great (but if you're debating between sizes, I would order on the smaller side) and the tie at the waist ensures that they won't slip down even after wearing them for a few days. Best of all, they're durable, despite being super light and airy and fast-drying. Even really abrasive rock doesn't seem to do much damage to them. They're also really stretchy, like do-the-splits stretchy, and comfy. I own three pairs, might get more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for climbing These pants are my uniform for guiding but I love them so much I bought more so as to not ruin my uniform. I like them because they are loose enough that I can fit running shorts under them. They stretch really well and don't get torn easily climbing limestone. They look nice if you have to go to a restaurant in them. They are very breathable and I never overheat in them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great material, wider leg than I was hoping for This pants seemed like they would be great for hiking and the outdoors. Light but substantial material. Unfortunately I was looking for something with a skinnier leg and leg opening.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best Darn Pants You Can Own Bar One Thing I have had a couple pairs of these pants for a while now and they are great! They are the most lightweight, most breathable, least crotch-sweaty pants that I have owned. A few things though: 1. They fit big. I originally ordered a 10 but reordered an 8 (I am 5'6, 140 lbs). I like to have a bit of extra room in the butt and the legs for my biking muscles and the 8 has plenty. I would recommend ordering a size down from your normal one. 2. The material eventually wears down. The pair that I have been rocking for over a year now definitely have some wear on the lightweight fabric. There are a number of snags and areas where the material has become rougher and 'looks worn'. I might have been able to avoid this had I hand-washed them or avoided dumping them in the washer with things with velcro. I'm all about function over fashion so it doesn't bug me, but be warned. The pockets are well placed, although the front ones could be a bit deeper. I have tried a number of 'women's' hiking pants (I use quotations because they don't seem like they were designed by a woman!) and these sit on my waist in the right place, they give me space for my butt and leg muscles and are the right length. I like 'em- you might too!

i'm looking for a pant, that's not bulky, to keep me warm in DC in January (with thermals underneath.) For this reason, the wind resistance feature appealed to me. Will these work?

Asked by: bree
Hiya Bree, thanks for your question! This is a lightweight hiking and climbing pant so it won't keep you warm without a base layer. It will protect you from the wind and light rain, but it is technically not a winter pant. If you plan to layer it with thermals, you might want to consider sizing up. Have you seen the Prana Women's Lined Halle Pant? Is it a lined version of my favorite pant. (Just a suggestion!) You can check it out here: Hope this helps!

Do these pants sit below the waist?

Asked by: Robyn49
Hey there, Thanks for the question. These pants are constructed with a low profile waist to allow them to fit under a harness. I hope this helps.
