Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm, lightweight and comfortable coat. Bad zipper :( This is a great coat for staying warm on a windy icy summit or low activity in a cold environment. You get the nice warm feeling of down in a lightweight synthetic, Very comfortable. Unfortunately, the whole thing is kinda ruined by the use of a tiny flimsy zipper. So small it is hard to get started, even with bare hands, which is not ideal in frigid conditions. OR would have a real winner if they put in a more substantial zipper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some things are perfect Mountain background, now a reluctant resident of the midwest due to work. That sucks but the good news is, my Belay Parka makes it more livable. Windy gray with single digits is all the time around here and I have to say, I have never worn a better heavy jacket for that kind of morale-killing weather. The insulation is superbe and the jacket seems generally overdesigned. I would expect long life in hard use and much better durability than down parkas costing four times more. The hood is better than most. My favorite feature, and the the one least common in my experience, is the CUT. Often, big parkas are cut too short at the hip and too baggy through the middle. Even in fighting shape, the human behind provides signifgant surface area for heat transfer so cover that thing up. OR clearly had this in mind and, the athlete's body, layered for cold. Well done guys. Trekking across a half-mile parking lot in flimsy dress pants when it's -4 degrees; you might as well be naked. Perch jacket. Big help there. If I thought OR's Cirque pants would work for "business casual" I'd be all over it but Lumberg would probably mention same when counselling me on the TPS reports. Best wishes all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hottest thing since sliced bread The perch parka is the belay parka we all dream about. Warmer than the venerable DAS parka with better stash pockets on the inside and more pockets on the outside (i.e. pockets galore!) and a better combination of quality primaloft insulation and pertex shell material than anything in its price range, this jacket is my ideal cold-weather companion. It's water-resistance is excellent, fending off the slushy snowfall really well and great for misty days in the PNW and coastal Alaska. The puffiness is supreme and it's adjustable cuffs are REALLY nice when it comes to layering. The upside of it being true to size is that if fits really well. The downside is that it makes it hard to layer. I'm a medium in all things OR, but with the Perch I went to a large in order to accommodate other layers. I wear it over my lighter fleeces/puffy layers - and sometime a shell as well. And the large is great. The arms would be a pain but for those awesome velcro straps that allow the right amount of cinching. The inner rear pocket for "packing it into itself" is nice, but a pain to use for that purpose. I use an old stuff sack, it's way easier. But that pocket secures with sturdy velcro, so I've kept extra stuff in there (socks, liner gloves, Avalanche data book, etc. etc.) With what is currently offered by other folks in the market, there just isn't anything comparable to this in terms of materials choice, warmth, and feature-set. The only thing OR could do better is have more of them in stock (and more colors perhaps?)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Friggin' Warm This jacket is super warm. I Live in Madison, WI and use to bike commute to work when the weather turns below 0 F. I've only ever needed to wear a t-shirt under this jacket. Multiple layers is just too warm. I love this jacket and rate it at 5 stars but few cons: I don't feel like the jacket comes up high enough on your face when fully zipped. Waist band may be a bit tight. There are hooks on the waist draw string that get caught in the dryer, it will then twists repeatedly, pulling the drawstring out and creating premature wear on the draw string. I've learned to throw it into a mesh bag when running it through the dryer. I'm 5'11", 178 lbs, athletic built and the medium fits well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit and warm Parka is very warm yet not bulky. I am 5' 10, 180 and large fits perfect. If you are looking to wear many layers beneath you may need to size up. Very comfortable to wear and not boxy. Grey/black is very stylish too. Bought it on sale. Definitely recommend it.
