The Outdoor Research Men's Helium Pant is an ultralight rain pant for unexpected downpours in the backcountry. The Pertex Shield+ fabric is 2.5 layer, 100% nylon, and 30D ripstop, giving you waterproof protection that breathes when the skies open up. The standard fit pulls over your shorts or base layer with an elastic waist and ankle zippers make it easier to pull over your shoes or boots. The drawcord at the waist prevents them from sliding down to your knees. Whether ultralight backpacking is your thing or you just want to save space in your already stuffed pack, the Helium weighs in at just under six ounces (size large) and packs down to the size of a granola bar. Whoa, just don’t confuse them with your snack-stash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight Easy to Pack Quality very lightweight easy to pack rain pants

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Durable Whatsoever This is a great lightweight pant, but I would not recommend them to anyone traveling in the backcountry. They snag and tear on just about anything. Each trip I have taken into the Sierra Nevada Backcountry has resulted in 1-3 small tears from brush on the trail. After a few trips the pants are no longer useful as waterproof. Would only recommend for casual use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super light We're doing a major self-supported trek, and I was looking to reduce carry-weight. I was very happy with my former go-to rain pants, but they're relatively heavy. After quite a bit of research, I settled on these because of their weight and reported breathability. I haven't tried them in wet conditions yet, but for now they're in my pack every time I go out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, effective One of the best reviewed rain pants for good reason. The zippers at the ankles are great and the fit is snug. They'll keep you bone dry in a downpour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight and well priced. I was looking for a solution to rain on the trail. I have been using the arc’teryx zeta LT pants, which are great for colder weather but hard to wear in the warm summer rain. These helium pants were great as they breath and are waterproof.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Touch small Should have ordered an extra size up. Same issue with the helium coat

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great contingency pants! Fantastic product. These live in my pack during all non-winter months, and in winter, live in my car for emergencies. Crazy light and small. I'm 6'5" 200# and the XLs work well. If you're looking for something to beat up or plan to wear really often, these may not be as durable as you'd like, but for Colorado weather patterns, they're perfect. I also have the Foray pants, which I use at work (Park Ranger) simply because they're more durable and I tend to beat up gear while at work. I highly recommend these though to anyone who wants ultra-light water/windproof pants.

Do the men's helium rain pants have a bladder fly?

Asked by: Splinter
Hiya Splinter, thanks for your question! No, this pant does not have a fly. It just has an elastic opening around the waist. Hope this helps!
