The Outdoor Research Men's Helium II Jacket is an ultralight waterproof jacket for emergencies on the trail and rock. The Helium II is made with Pertex Shield+ DS 2.5L, a nylon 30D ripstop with a clear laminate. This fabric allows the jacket to pack down super small, into its own chest pocket. Weighing in at an average of 6.4oz (size large), you’ll hardly notice it stowed away in your pack or clipped to your harness. The waterproof jacket protects you from unexpected rain and harsh winds so you won’t have to cut your trip short. The elastic cuffs, adjustable hood, and drawcord hem keep the fabric close to your body to prevent drafts and leakage. Outdoor adventures are much more enjoyable when you’re able to stay dry during unfortunate weather.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helium ll jacket Just purchased an entire new OR kit, this jacket being part of it. Taking it all to Kodiak Island next week (10/19/18) for a 10 day goat hunt. Will do a much more thorough review when I return on all the new OR gear that I purchased. My first thoughts on this jacket, wearing on some local hikes, is that it's insanely packable and super light weight. Compressed down to take up virtually no room in the pack. If I have any concerns right now, it's how will it hold up under heavy pack(wear from shoulder straps), and how will it hold up while bushwhacking through the alders(it is super lightweight) Maybe it'll just be sunny the whole time?!?ha I've shopped around and did all the comparisons. Being in the industry I do have several companies I can pick from for the gear I choose to use. When it comes to mountain hunting, OR has it figured out! Can't wait to put this stuff to some real use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This jacket rocks! Just returned from a mulit-pitch route where I wore this jacket the entire time. The route involved many chimney sections and I was convinced that the back of this jacket was trashed. After finishing the route and inspecting the jacket, it was apparent that the Helium was no worse for wear. From the get go, I loved this jacket but had been concerned about its durability; that concern has now been put to rest. I would recommend this piece without hesitation to someone looking for a lightweight emergency piece to keep in the bottom of their pack 24/7.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this for my boyfriend and he loves it! My boyfriend loves this jacket. It's super compact and lightweight. Perfect for the alpine. His only complaint is he wishes it would zip into its own pocket instead of the bottom Velcro pocket. It's been great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stow-away for unexpected storms I keep this in my backpack for unexpected weather. Works great to block the wind and keeps you dry, even in heavy rains. Like the adjustable hood but hand pockets would be nice. Definitely recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very lightweight and compact I love the light weight of the jacket, and it seems to breathe relatively well while still repelling light rain (haven't tested in heavy rain yet). My main complaint is with the fit: I'm a fairly large, muscular guy so I ordered the XXL size (the largest available). I was disappointed to discover that even with this usually cavernous size the jacket is still very tight across the chest and shoulders, and the sleeves are tight on my arms. There is no way that I'll be able to wear this jacket as a rain/wind barrier over a puffy or fleece jacket, thus relegating this otherwise excellent jacket to warm-weather use only. I'm happy to recommend the product others, but only if they're really skinny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insanely light Title says it all. I no longer have an excuse to not bring a rain jacket on all of my trips into the outdoors, because this thing packs so small and weighs nothing. Solid protection from rain and snow in a pinch. Probably less durable than some heavier rain wear, but that's to be expected from a jacket that can disappear into your pack until you get home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like Water Off a Duck's Back! Very light weight, bought this for backpacking. Used in in heavy, continuous rain and it was absolutely great! The material itself does not get wet, it somehow sheds water completely, so when rain is over, just give it a quick shake and it's dry, ready to be packed up. It's a single-layer shell, simple, light, packs up very small, no inner layers to get damp and hold water. I am 5 foot 10 inches, 145 pounds, and the medium was just roomy enough to go over a fleece sweater and a thin (1 inch thick) down hoodie.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from got wet It was great hiking in the rain. I would like for it to have pockets and pit zips.

does the hood fold away into the collar

Asked by: Nick
Thanks for the question! Unfortunately, the Helium II does not have a feature to stow a rolled hood or tuck away the hood. I would check out the Outdoor Research Men's Foray Jacket instead. It is the lightest weight OR jacket with a stow-able hood feature. A second option after that would be the Bolin Jacket. I included links below. I hope this helps! https://bit.ly/2LUyd4T https://bit.ly/2vCOu3l

I'm about 6,3" at 175lbs is it better to go with L or M?  I'm worried L might be too baggy but M might not have long enough of sleeves

Asked by: ap 2
We keep meeting in this strange corner of the internet, Ap Coworker here is 6' (but 195lbs) - athletic build. He said the sleeves are great on the jacket (he bought a large) but the torso kind of comes up short on him when he raises his arms. The large is not terribly bulky, but he is able to wear a close cut fleece under it, but not a puffy. He's got 20 pounds on you, though, so it would be a bit more billowy. I would just be concerned about the torso length not working out for you in this case. Unless you can see to it that you NEVER raise your arms again - then it will be great!
