The Outdoor Research Dry Payload Pack is a waterproof pack for hiking, biking and paddling in wet situations. Rain, snow, or just down the river, when the goin' gets wet, your gear still wants to stay dry. Boasting 32 liters of space, you can pile in your stuff, roll the top closure and carry it away on your back. Compression straps tighten down the load and ice tool loops secure the sharper items. Dry gear usually makes for a much happier trip, even when the rain is falling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good pack but needs some improvement I tried this pack on a recent hike and glacier ski trip. It was a bit small. I would recommend at least 35L vs 32...32 is an odd size that barely fits all the gear but too large for a shorter trip. It was difficult to take stuff in and out as it is narrow and deep and being a dry bag it is not flexible and can only be accessed from the top. The straps are thin but did hold my skis and ice axe. The thin belt strap was okay. I would prefer slightly thicker straps...which would hold skis better. Overall, I liked the bag. It is lightweight and dries fast. It was raining and snowing and all my stuff remained dry. It is a nice looking bag. The blue really stands out on snow. It is a highly specialized bag. I prefer 20L or less for day hikes. 50L+ for multi day trips. 40L is great for backcountry skiing. So this bag at 32L is a bit difficult...it could use just a bit more space and made slightly wider or at least the opening or top should be wider.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect canoe tripping bag, surprising amount of room There is always a risk of flipping your canoe while out on trip, especially if you run into some rapids. The last thing you want to worry about is wet gear. The Payload Pack is your day bag that can fit any essential items, snacks/electronics/towel/sweater, that you may need throughout the day. It's surprisingly big and often times had to hold that one item you forgot to pack into the large dry sack. My only recommendation would be to add a pocket for a water bottle. The old carabiner clip always seems to snap my Nalgene.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack for Travel This is a great pack and my Go-To for Traveling. I do a fair bit of traveling in Asia which has frequent rain storms and humidity. This pack is great to know everything inside is kept dry. Boat transfers are a worry of the past. Just stow and go. Also great for scuba diving trips. Keep everything in spot and dry. Simple design, with only one outside pocket for passport and wallet. Straps seem designed well and padding is where you need it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Torture tested Dragged through mangroves, thrown in compartments with loose fishing gear, scraped on cement, over loaded with heavy gear and beat up and more. She is still bone dry. One of the most surprising things it that the zipper hasn't corroded. I worn on the water in SW Florida and the water is extremely corrosive. I understand sewing pockets or compartments would have a negative effect on it's waterproof attributes but finding things can be pretty tough. I organized with stuff sacks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from light weight and water proof Great for hiking, day trips in alpine climbing, multi pitch climbing in marginal weather. I don't have to worry about getting my gear wet if I run into an afternoon rain storm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome pack! One drawback This is a really nice pack, and relatively affordable. It's super waterproof, quite durable yet somehow super light! My only beef is that the strap is too short to accommodate many models of climbing helmets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic, just don't use it for long distances I loved this thing! Everything stays super dry, but the lack of waist support can be seen as either a pro or a con. Without the waist support it is more compact but it also kinda hurts your back when you're lugging alot of gear

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple and waterproof but not comfortable on long days Needed a simple waterproof backpack for extended day trips on the Washington coast in the winter. Somehow only experienced moderate rain on a couple days. Pack did stay perfectly dry inside but I didn't get the full day soakers that were expected to really test it. Its a no frills minimalist pack that can get uncomfortable on long trips especially on days with a lot of upper body movement. The shoulder straps don't offer much padding and tend to dig into the shoulders but the waist strap does help share the weight. Its a minimalist pack so can't fault it too much for the straps. The straps did seem well placed and offered a large amount of adjustment. Would be nice to see an interior pocket for small important stuff that is not needed frequently. Went through a lot of tough thorny brush without issue. I see no durability issues after a week of constant use.
