Rated 4 out of 5 by from Packable , Convenient, OR Quality Just received it, had the opportunity to try for a 1 night in thick snow. Patted down a hole to set it in, Definetly waterproof, breathes alright, but needs a hole to be left open otherwise, in snowy conditions at -5C was condensating. Otherwise excellent product and would recommend to anyone who wants to pack light in the winter. Many 1person tent are lighter than this bivy so for summer id aim tent or hammock most likely. Im 6'0 and 248lbs and its a tight fit, once im in, not much wiggle room and not much room for things other than gloves and cell phone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great product the only thing wrong is the absence of a small semi circle tent pole to pop up the head space , and I feel it should be included

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent ventilation, a little tight As a wilderness field instructor in Pisgah National Forest, I sleep in a bivy each night, cold or hot, rain or shine. This bivy is excellent for ventilation and insulation from the elements. It is lightweight and easy to pack up. I do wish that there was a lightweight pole to help hold up the sides; having the lid hanging in my face tends to make me somewhat claustrophobic. I also wish the clamshell at the top opened down the bivy a bit more deeply, as I have to slide out of the bivy quite a bit in order to get my legs out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well Made! Work outside in Utah where the winter is windy and freezing, and there are poky plants everywhere. I got this Bivy because I sleep under an open tarp, and I wanted to protect my pad and sleeping bag from the elements and spiky plants. It works very well and is very durable while still being fairly light. It also seems to breathe fairly well, although there will be a little wetness in the morning. My only complaint is that it does not unzip further, making it hard to slide my sleeping bag in from the top, and hard to air out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This bivy is the best. This is great for when you are the 3rd wheel on a backpacking trip, or if you are going to be bivvying on a ledge. It doesn't have the extra pole around your shoulders which makes it lighter, more compact, but slightly less comfortable. In my opinion it's better to go with the Aurora unless you really have trouble sleeping without more air space near your head.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this again From the weight, size and feel of this bivy I thought that it for sure would not hold up to the elements. I went camping in it the night that I had received it and it worked great. Had some good downpours over night where I stayed completely dry. Only thing that I saw was that the bug net lays on your face, there is a spot that you could tie to and keep it up but then you would have to camp under a branch or construct something. Overall though it did the job that it was meant to do and did it well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A surplus bivy has some advantages Honestly, I returned this bivy and purchased an army surplus bivy on ebay, for the reason that the army bivy zips partway down the side. Oh yeah, and it was less than $60. This is basically a stripped down version of the other O.R bivy sacks. The Alpine version has pole(s). The Advanced version has pole(s) and a vent at the foot box area. I have heard the Advanced bivy bug netting can be removed, but I can't confirm that. A 25x77 sleeping pad fits inside. It is Gore-Tex, which is awesome, but the only way in and out is through the opening you see in the product photo(s). I am not sure why O.R doesn't add a watertight zipper down at least one side. Maybe they wanted to save a quarter (I know it would cost more), but in reality, they lost a customer, because I prefer the army bivy style (ie: zipper down the side). The stuff sack could be a bit bigger. Just stuff the bivy in, don't fold it. If you force it you can fit the bivy in, but it's tight, at least it was for me.
