Osprey Custom Molding

Osprey Custom Molding
When the loads get heavy, a supportive and effective hipbelt can support that weight. Osprey custom heat molds their hipbelt to you, eliminating hotspots, chaffing and bruising. This combines the best of a stiff, load bearing hipbelt with the cushioned comfort you need most when trekking with all your gear.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Osprey High Road Chassis

Osprey High Road Chassis
All Osprey wheeled travel packs utilize Osprey’s proprietary High Road™ Chassis featuring an ergonomic retractable handle with integrated vent fins, a 6001 Aluminum frame, ultra-durable and light-weight composite base with a fiberglass matrix inlay and integrated foot/grab handle, over-sized high traction polyurethane wheels with sealed bearings and a high clearance design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid value Bought this for a trip through Rocky Mountain National Park. Very happy overall. Smaller and more basic than premium packs, but very functional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent pack for the price! This is a fantastic, simple pack that has all the features you need. Moosejaw was extremely fast with their shipping, and you can always count on the return policy! This pack is lightweight and very comfortable. You can't go wrong for the price!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a good fit for me I've used this on several backpacking trips from 2 to 5 days carrying 30 to 50 lb. At 5'9" tall and 145 lb, I have a slender body size. While not a grossly uncomfortable pack, even with the torso adjustment shortened as much as possible, the pack hung down on my butt. It felt like the hip belt was just too large for my slim body and couldn't hold up the pack properly. This pack is probably a better choice for someone with a larger torso. I am going to replace this with the small version of the Atmos 65.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far loving it. Been using the pack off and on since getting it. Seems to distribute the weight well but doesn't breath like some packs. However is lighter so it's a trade off. Can't wait to try it on a more serious hike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hiker Awesome backpack! I would purchase again! Good size and smart design. It doesn’t blow me away with extras, but the features it does have are right where they need to be. I’ve had other backpacks of this size that add space horizontally, but this really keeps it vertical and close to your center of mass

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Osprey quality & function for low on-sale price. I purchased this backpack about a month ago on sale from and so far have carried about 30-35 lbs in it. It's made with typical Osprey high quality construction & materials (same as all their other packs) but at a lower price point due to the slightly more simplified suspension system than is on most of their more expensive packs. This pack will easily handle 30-35 lbs comfortably. Plenty of necessary features for typical backpacking and travel. I've purchased (and still own) many Osprey packs over the past 25+ years, however, they are all super heavy-duty older Made in the USA models of yesteryear. Although Osprey currently manufactures their packs in Vietnam (and have for quite a few years now), they still hold up just as well. Osprey also updated their warranty about that time to be "unconditional" on all packs they've ever made (retroactively) you quite literally cannot go wrong with an Osprey pack (so long as you get the correct size) because if you break it, they will repair or replace it....simple as that. Their current packs are made with much lighter weight materials than were their older USA made packs, and are thus lighter weight overall. The Volt backpacks have a somewhat simplified one-size-fits-most suspension system and seems to carry pretty well with my initial testing on several 2-4 night trips. No complaints so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Solid Go-to at the Entry Level I'm new to the world of Osprey packs and hiking with anything other than a standard military-issue pack, and boy, am I glad I made this investment. I decided to go with the Volt over some of the higher-end Osprey packs for several reasons (I won't list them all here as most of them are simply personal and not critical to the review of the product), but am not at all disappointed that I did. If anything, I'm happier. This pack has all the features one expects to find in an Osprey pack--from pockets, to carabiner attachments, to comfort, this pack shines. I spent a solid 5 hours with this pack on the first time I used it; I only had about 25-30 lbs of gear in it, but the weight distibution of the Volt worked wonderfully. The waist belt (which is no different from the one on my buddy's Atmos pack), when engaged, shifted all ofthe load-bearing weight to my hips and core and away from my shoulders. Never felt better after a solid hike/ruck. The only downside I can see with this product is the lack of breathability; while this does not exactly bother me, I imagine it could be an issue to others. (If it is, consider the Atmos or Aether packs--the suspension and backing on those seems to be built such that the bulk of the pack is not restingon your back, allowing for more breathability). Despite this, it is still a comfortable pack to wear and absolutely worth the price and more.

Is this the 2016 model with the mesh back support?

Asked by: Tmmoll
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us. This is the spring 2016 model and has mesh covered ridged foam which allows maximum ventilation while keeping the load close to the body! I hope this helps.

Can I bring this on a plane as carry-on?

Asked by: NorwayMan
Hiya NorwayMan, thanks for your question! Generally, the maximum dimensions for a carry-on bag are 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches (22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm), including handles and wheels. (We recommend confirming the dimensions with your airline.) Sadly, the Volt 60 Pack does not meet those requirements. You would need to size down to a 46 liter pack. Check out the Osprey Porter 46 Pack. It is designed for both air travel and trekking. You can view this item here: Hope this helps!

Osprey Volt 60 Pack

Size One Size
Torso Range 17 - 22 / 43 - 56 cm
Volume / Pack Capacity 60 liters / 3661 cubic inches
Dimensions 33 x 14 x 12 in.
Weight 3.92 lbs
Hipbelt 25 - 50" / 64 - 127 cm
Pack Weight Capacity 30 - 50 lbs

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size the pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size chart above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelt size info above to help determine your ideal pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
