Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Daypack Ever I bought this to replace my aging escapist 25, what a phenomenal pack. It's light, incredibly breathable, and comfortable. I actually like it so much that during the week it's my daily backpack and during the weekend and trips I slide out the laptop and office stuff, put in the rain jacket, and other day hike stuff and it's my trail pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Backpack Excellent quality and great balance between features and cost. It is sturdy and light and the zippers with the loops are super easy to open.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Second Chance Review A few months ago, I wrote a review for attempting to use this pack for what it isn't and given the unique environment that we have experienced, I decided to give this pack another shot and well... it's holding up so far and I'm glad to have given it a second look. Good for short hikes or even a day hike, the pack's adjustable straps and ventilated back panel actually made treks very comfortable even with a load at about 10-15lbs. For perspective, this was for hikes with a duration of 6-7hrs and distances ranging from 10-14mi. Also welcoming was the light foam padding on the shoulder straps and hip belt. Material is durable and held up to light bushwhacking since some trails have been overgrown due to the pandemic, it didn't snag or tear. I've re-examined the downsides, the major flaw is "useful capacity" meaning its difficult to pack "hard" items as there is this arch to the pack due to the design for the mesh back. Any loose or soft items like clothing are easier to shove in to take advantage of the stated capacity. The hip pockets are too small to hold a cell phone but good for keys or small snacks. It is difficult to use the side stretch bottle pockets as intended for bottles if the pack is full but the Hydropak's water capacity that came with the pack is more than enough to get you by. To give an idea what I was able to pack, I have uploaded a picture of what I brought during my treks. The single zipper for the front organization pocket is still a minor inconvenience but not a showstopper and I also would've preferred a buckle for the chest strap rather than magnetic. I've added a camera clip to get additional space for the main compartment and thought about a mod to add trekking pole attachments similar to the Manta as the Syncro 20 just the right amount of capacity for my day treks. In final, this pack has redeeming qualities as I've now begun to use it more often but it isn't perfect, however, it is a comfortable pack I would recommend for trail and cycling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweetspot for versatility This bag is a perfect blend of functionality and mobility. It has the storage capacity and stabilizing features of a useful day-pack in a smaller, lightweight form-factor with a highly breathable suspension system that make it perfect for day hikes and cycling. As bonus, this pack includes a rain cover to protect your gear, and a hydration reservoir. Many of the Osprey bags have excessive, silly graphics and techy frills (e.g. Talon); while the Syncro is not completely devoid of these, thankfully the styling is a bit more simple and subdued. My only gripe is that I wish the hip-belt pockets were large enough to fit a phone, but alas they are not.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I was initially excited to use it as kind of the everyday commute and hiking back as it seemed versatile. Unfortunately, as I loaded the bag with my usual items for the day for the bike commute, that's where this bag began to show its flaws. To give perspective, my usual day to day commuting items include a 16oz coffee hydroflask, 24oz water hydroflask, 2 small packaged meals, 1 leather notebook, a GORE Biking Jacket, 1 3ft bike cable lock, and miscellaneous pens and phone charger. A lot of items but at 20L, this bag should hold all of the contents easily but it sadly does not. The more one packs in the main compartment, the more difficult it actually is to utilize the other pockets, especially with the ones dedicated for a water bottle. Rigid items like my leather notepad or packaged dinners are extremely difficult to put in so putting in an item like a Jetboil or other beefier items would also prove difficult as there isn't much available space to push outward even with all compression straps loosened. As for the front compartment, I did like the internal storage but with only one zipper pull, I did find myself fumbling the pack more to open or close compartment and when reaching for items. If there was a second zipper, it would solve the issue tremendously. The only easy thing to put into the back was my GORE layer in the shove-it pocket thanks to its stretchy material but that left my two hydroflasks. With the pack already filled, it was near impossible to put in the two hydroflasks in the dedicated pockets even with the stretched material. I feel like soft items like jackets or layers are the only items that can truly take advantage of the Liter size of this pack. I have to revert to my previous pack, the Maxpedition Sitka 15L which fits everything even at 15L. I was hoping to switch to Osprey as I have their Kestrel 48L for backpacking and absolutely love it to be loyal to the brand but will unfortunately have to wait...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I miss my old Syncro I had a Syncro 15 that I purchased in 2013-2014 that I used as a running and cycling pack, as well as everyday-use pack. It was the first of its kind that I'd purchased so I don't have anything to compare it to, but god I loved that pack. It was the perfect size, had just enough room for both active pursuits and commuting necessities (e.g. laptop), and the side pockets fit my Nalgene. Everything on that pack was in a place that my brain expected it to be in, within reach and without fuss. The Syncro 20 is the update, and I don't love it. It has more features for organizing, a separate compartment instead of a pocket for the bladder, which I like, and more space to put things. BUT, they took away the double/two-sided zipper from all of the pockets and while it was a small change, I definitely notice a difference and "fumble" with this pack a lot more. I used to be able to comfortably reach behind me and slip my Nalgene into the side pocket, and now not only can I not do that because of the pocket redesign and sizing, they don't come close to fitting a Nalgene (and carrying/refilling a bladder everywhere isn't practical). The front pocket, since it only has one zipper, flops open and everything falls out. With the two zipper system, I could control the size of the opening. It seems Osprey did this in order to make the compartment bigger and deeper but with a smaller flap, but I just find I can't see everything in the compartment, I fumble to find things, and lots gets stuck or "lost" in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice pack I really like this pack. It is comfortable to wear while biking. Well organized pockets. Unfortunately mine was stolen so I have ordered another one as a replacement.
Date published: 2019-09-08
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as good as old Syncro I have the older Syncro 20 and love it. I saw the new Syncro and it appeared to have a few features missing on the old design, like the stretch stash pocket, the hip belt pockets and the lid lock was moved to what I felt was a better location. So I ordered the new Syncro 20. Once it arrived I found several issues with the new design. The new sternum strap buckle is very difficult to operate. The hip-belt pockets are too small to hold a standard-size cell phone (even though that is the use displayed in a photo on the product page). And, several of the pockets have only one-way zippers, which makes it harder to find the zipper pull tabs.

Warranty Info

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
