Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to maneuver; perfectly packed! At the age of 63, my international travel typically consisted of 2 checkins and 2 carryons. Not this time; not anymore! For 30 days of travel throughout Israel, I was able to pack 2 trousers, 2 capris, 1 long flowing skirt, 2 mid length skirts, 4 long sleeve shirts, 3 dresses, overshirt for swim coverup and swimsuit, 1 flip flop shoes, 2 pairs sturdy sandals, alternative medicine kit, vitamin packs for 30 days, my regular meds for 3 days, toiletries, iPad Pro, cell phone, mid size Sony camera and chargers! All this in these small compact suitcases! (It never fell over because one packs heavy items near the bottom of the suitcase where it stands up!) The backpack carried 2 water bottles without falling out; organized daily life perfectly! Both cases were considered carryons even on the smallest airlines! No checking in or losing a suitcase! Life was perfect thanks to Osprey. Rolling on the rocky roads or carrying it when needed was a pleasure compared to lugging too much on a long journey! Now I’ve bought two more Osprey backpacks...never before this even owned one pack! (My kids did)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing short trip bag and great backpack I bought this bag to go around Europe. I was studying abroad and I needed a bag for one month of solo travel. It was very light and passed several foreign country airlines carry on requirements. The backpack was great but I kept it separate from the travel bag. I loved both products and it's great how they are sold together. Lifetime warranty with this brand too! Win-win!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact bag that goes anywhere I travel almost every week to a variety of locations, from Manhattan to remote locations requiring an occasional commuter shuttle. I really needed a bag good for 2 days of clothes, and computer equipment, that I could easily carry, and would be small enough to put in a compact overhead space. After looking at about a dozen bags, I settled on this one and have no regrets. When I need to make the bag small enough to fit in a commuter overhead space, I take off the day pack and put it under my seat. So far, it has fit on every flight. When I am taking the subway, up and down stairs, I use it as a backpack, and it is extremely comfortable this way. I have had no disappointments. Others have commented that it will tip over easily, and my experience has been that it only does that when fully loaded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality Bought this pack/bag for an upcoming trip. Worked perfect. The backpack straps were a bit of a problem to assemble to convert to the backpack. The zip-on/zip-off day pack is an excellent feature and was very easy to manipulate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Osprey carry on roller Solid quality expected from Osprey. Not a huge bag, but a great weekender...or warm weather traveler. Rugged and versatile piece of equipment.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not enough capacity The day pack is amazing, light and easy to organize. The carry-on bag has a small capacity; making it difficult to pack for a 1 week trip or more. It does tip over like mentioned in other reviews however the basic straps are doing the job. I bought it for travelling and I travel with it twice but stopped using it because I would restrain my capacity of items to bring on the trip (and the souvenir items). :( I'm still using the smaller bag everyday as a daypack. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect bag! I purchased this bag, after MUCH research into getting the perfect bag, to take on a month-long trip to Indonesia and Thailand. I wanted something that I can carry on flights without having to check it, carry on my back as a back-pack while exploring, and to have the option of rolling it through the airport with ease. I also wanted something I can carry several blocks or even a few miles with comfort and stability. This bag IS IT! A+ rating all the way around.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good, but needs improvement. I got this bag in order to carry my laptop, accessories and documents every day, but I wanted a bag that would both roll and be a good backpack, and this was the only one I found that remotely fit the bill. It's a good idea in theory, but in practise, it does not quite work. The straps take too much time to pack away, and until they are stowed, they'll drag on the ground if you try to roll it. Better that the straps were on one side and the wheels on the other. The way it is, I leave the straps out most of the time, and pack it everywhere. The chest and especially the waist straps are essential when carrying up to 10kg of laptop and other kit. Then, the bag is supposed to stand upright, but when loaded, it tips forward. I know that the size of the frame is limited to make it carry-on size, but a foldable stand would go a long, long way toward improving this bag. It is advertised as having a 15" laptop sleeve, and while my old 15.6" laptop fit just fine, my new 15.6" laptop is a bit wider, meaning that while it does fit - just - it is quite difficult to get the zip to go over the top corners, which are uncomfortably close to the world that the bag is supposed to protect the laptop from. Also, while traveling, I often get my laptop out and put it on top of the bag while the bag is on my lap so that I can use it. However, the fabric of the bag is quite slippery, and the laptop is all too prone to slip off unless I hold it constantly. What it needs is panels of a more grippy fabric on top so that the laptop won't slide so easily. The detachable daypack is a bit pointless. I never detach it, since it has the laptop sleeve, and it only seems to reduce the bag's total capacity. Yes, I could detach it and carry the two parts front and back, but it takes too long for a daily commute, as there are all sorts of clips to be manipulated to get the whole rig on or off, and it takes long enough to undo the chest and waist straps with the daypack on the back as it is.

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
