Product Reviews
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight, well built, but very tall and narrow Purchased this pack because of its weight and volume (>70 L). My pack (size Large) weighed in on my scale at 4 lb 0.1 oz (2476 g) which is 1lb 7.4 oz less then my existing 75L pack. Pack appears to be well constructed and takes a heavy load well. The biggest negative seems to be the height & width of the main (and only) compartment; its narrow and tall. This means that my 7-9 day bear canister will not fit horizontally and that the top of the pack extends well above my head (I'm 6'-3"+ so that normally isn't a problem). That makes wearing my fully brimmed straw sun hat impossible. The lack of pockets isn't really an issue except for carrying water. The provided hydration sleeve is sewn fully into the bag so that with the main compartment full its unusable. My solution is to attach a pocket to the side the pack to carry a hydration bladder.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Close to being great Bomber pack. It has just what you need and no extras and is well built. Easy to attach a daypack to the back with the small loops on either side. This doubles as a much needed extra pocket. Carries load well. Cons: The sleeping pad straps are not buckles so the loops cannot easily be undone. This is quite annoying and so I replaced theme with buckles. The hip belt is uncomfortable. I've tried adjusting it in store but still having issues with it. Not sure how to attach an ice axe because the upper loop doesn't open. Nitpick: the flap of fabric that enables you to use the pack without the lid sort of gets in the way and can't be removed. Nitpick: some sort of extra pocket would be helpful, like a mesh pocket or side pocket. Mitigated by attaching a day pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pack I've ever had! Best pack I've ever had by far. I load on average 60-65 lbs in it. It's a workhorse of a pack and my friends are amazed by how much I can comfortably pack with this. Only thing I would like to see is maybe a couple pockets added.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favorite Osprey Pack to Date! I Have used this pack for over a year now, finally felt it was time to leave a review. I have used it for backpack guiding and thru hiking and it has never failed me. I've loved it ever since I put it on for the first time. The pack is the lightest I have ever seen for framed pack. It is incredibly comfortable and extremely simple. There are no bells or whistles like on other Osprey packs, it just has the bear essentials. I've put about 600 miles on the pack thus far and there are no signs of wear yet. Material is rugged and the build is incredibly well thought out. The giant hip pocket and water bottle holder are perfect. As I said in the title, best pack I have ever owned from osprey. The only thing I wish to improve is more color options. in the instruction/care booklet there is a picture of a darker colored version. I would love to see that version become an option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only four Pounds! Bought this pack last summer and trained with it on hikes around Boulder with 30 to 45 lbs. My first trip was the loop of Buchanan & Pawnee Pass with 40 lbs. I like the way it transfers all the weight to the hips and off the shoulders and back! I used it repeatedly afterwards and it rides best on me when it's 35 lbs or less. I have a smaller Osprey Stratus that is insanely comfortable. This Aether Pro is comfortable, but not as comfortable as the Stratus. Still gave it 5 stars because its light weight, easy to reach and roomy hip belt pockets, tough fabric and simplicity are superior to the anything else I tried in the Osprey line. Biggest problem was no mesh pocket on the front so I added one from another company. I also added a phone pocket on a shoulder strap. Overall, I'm very pleased with it and love that I can carry anything I want in a four pound pack!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from High hopes but let down The frame is so close to your head you're not able to look up. Cinch down the load lifters and it's basically touching your skull.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from yes I was looking for a versatile sub 4 pound pack in the 70 liter class with Gannett Peak Wyoming being the trip that prompted the purchase. Generally Osprey pack look to me like a lady with too much make-up. This pack they stripped off all of the pif-pof which is which is the clean pack I was looking for. The only place a zipper belongs on a pack is the top-pocket. The side zippers and sleeping bag compartments add weight, create places for water to get in, and are a prime failure point. This is the only one I have found that met my specifications. I now have over 100 miles on the pack, Gannett was 60 of those, don't generally give reviews, but didn't find many reviews when I purchased this. I have carried this pack with 47 pounds down to under 15 pounds. The good: Clean simple pack. Compresses down extremely well for a summit pack. Handles a wide range of loads like no other pack I have found. Easy to pull off the top-pack and hip pockets. The hip pockets are really functional. The pack has held up well so far with no signs of wear. It is a nice versatile pack and I am glad I purchased it and would buy it again. This pack carries best without the top-pocket. Its sweet spot is sub 40 pound load down to a summit pack without the pockets. This pack has a nice narrow profile and I would describe it as a nimble pack when carried in its prime weight range. Overall the compression straps are very versatile for attaching an array of stuff. The not-so-good: First, I have carried gregorys for almost 20 years. If you want a load hauler, this isn't a Baltoro, the two pounds less pack weight isn't free. 50 pounds is about all that this pack can handle reasonably. While the main pack body stayed dry in the mountain rainstorms, the top-pack leaked at the seams. The bottom attachment for the ice axe is simple and functional, why there isn't a simple velcro top restraint I can't fathom. Would provide more comments but I am out of characters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Osprey quality in a light weight pack I ordered this on line and then took it to the Moosejaw retail store to be fit. The staff there was excellent and helped me try on and fit packs for more than an hour. In the end this pack did not fit my body. I found it to be really stiff and unforgiving. It dug into my lower back just above my sacrum area. I had about 25 lbs of dead weight in the pack so not a huge amount of weight. The pack, like all Osprey products, was well made and is of high quality. For a large expedition type of pack this is one of the lightest packs available. For comparison I also tried a Black Diamond Mission 75. Although that pack did not fit me either the Osprey was the better fitting pack and was of better quality. Backpacks can be tough to fit and if they don't it can turn a great trip into a painful one. I have learned that the hard way over the years and if a pack is not comfortable in the store you should look elsewhere as hours on the trail will magnify any issues that you find in the store.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size the pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate.

HOW to MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
1. Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.

2. From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.

3. Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.

4. This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size chart above to find your ideal size.

5. If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW to MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
1. Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.

2. A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.

3. The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.

4. Refer to the Hipbelt size info above to help determine your ideal pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
