Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Osprey High Road Chassis

Osprey High Road Chassis
All Osprey wheeled travel packs utilize Osprey’s proprietary High Road™ Chassis featuring an ergonomic retractable handle with integrated vent fins, a 6001 Aluminum frame, ultra-durable and light-weight composite base with a fiberglass matrix inlay and integrated foot/grab handle, over-sized high traction polyurethane wheels with sealed bearings and a high clearance design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome comfort and versatility! Got this pack a few weeks back and immediately used it on an all day climb up a mountain in Alaska. The capacity is perfect for an all day or a couple of day overnight hikes. The water blather location is great and doesn’t take up any room inside. I was able to attach my pistol to the front of the pack for bear protection which really added to the comfort for my shoulders since I didn’t have any other straps under the backpack. I had a place for everything- hiking poles, water, food, cold weather gear from the mesh outside pocket, waist belt pockets for snacks and dog leash...etc. The waist belt and shoulder harnesses are extremely comfortable with any size load. For me, this pack fit the best, had the capacity and extra attachment capabilities I was looking for!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features Bought this pack a month ago and have worn it every day for a mile or so jaunt around the neighborhood. Adding a few lbs as the weeks progress, getting ready for the spring/summer hiking season. great fit and excellent quality one would expect from Osprey equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfort and durability all in one I've used this product for multiple overnight and weekend backpacking trips and found that it is a great pack! Very comfortable and easy to fit all my gear. The side load zippers are a huge help when the pack is full and I need to access the bottom. The only difficulty I found was that the sleeping bag compartment on the bottom of the pack is small and can be difficult to load.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built and lightweight but get the right size. Last year I bought two of these: one for me and one for my 18 year old son for hiking in the Tetons. I bought the M/L size because I am 5 ft 9 inches and weigh about 145 lbs. I loved the fit except that it seemed I couldn't get the waist belt as tight as I would have liked. This came back to haunt me as very sore shoulders for the overnight, 10 mile hike up Cascade Canyon. While I loved the pack, I didn't like the fit. So I ended up selling it and buying another one in the S/M size. So, it's a great pack. Just make sure you get the right size, unless you plan on gaining weight, which actually sounds kind of fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ready for its Next Adventure! I'm a woman, and I downsized to the Kestrel 48L from a 50 +10L backpack (nobody needs to carry 60L of stuff on a 6 month backpacking trip - trust me!), and so far I've used it on a 2 month trip through South America and while there are a couple of things that my old bag had that I wish this one did (a small, removable day pack and full frontal access), overall I really love it! I have a very long upper body so none of the women's bags worked for my height, so the only problem I have is that the wasit adjustment doesn't go quite small enough for my waist, but the length adjustment is worth it, and it's still manageable and far more comfortable than the shorter women's bags. I highly recommend this bag for any other women out there that have this problem. I do find the side access a bit annoying as I don't find it super accessible. I read a previous comment that stated you can't remove the bottom compartment flap, but this is false; you can unhook it from the inside, near the back. I prefer the bag without the bottom compartment as I find there is more space this way. The side pockets are a bit tricky to reach when carrying the bag, but I use it for my main backpack and carry a separate daybag for my water, so that's not a concern for me, and I like how strechy yet secure the pockets are. Also, the statement about not being able to use the front pocket when the bag is full is also false; as long as you fill the front pocket first you should notice that the space is fully utilized. In fact, when I took the time to pack properly (as opposed to quickly throwing everything in for a quick hostel change), I found this bag to be a little bit TOO big! It says that you can sinch it up and use it for a day hike, but even then the top pocket buldges and the bag just doesn't sit quite right when it it fully sinched. That being said, I may just invest in the 38L for my next trip and ditch the extra 10L. I love this bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect size, not too big, not too little Bought this pack to replace my small day pack so that I can carry more equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy again, extremely comfortable. I own 2 ospreys, 2004 60 aether (still in excellent condition even after a 650 mile thru hike) and the 48 kestrel. I reduced gear, so I required a smaller pack. I purchased the kestrel in march 2016. Since then the kestrel has been used in utah as a day pack for varies trails and it has been to isle royale michigan for 6 days and 5 nights loaded up to 32lbs. I easily could have loaded it for 7 days. At 32 Ilbs and avg 10 miles a day, the pack was always comfortable. Even during breaks I kept the bag on. Its easily the most comfortable pack i have used. The aether back panel is flat to my back and causes sweating. The kestrel airflow back panel really helps keep my back cool, you still will sweat from hiking but not from overheating. The pockets help with keeping gear organized . The main body of the bag is very durable and still looks new. Also the daisy chains are very handy for hang wet clothes or attaching things too. The hipbelt pockets are a decent size able to hold my sawyer mini, purell or 2 cliff bars. The negatives, the mesh water bottle pouch has some fraying, do to over growth on the trails rubbing it, and I question it's long term durability. The water bottle stretch pockets are the biggest negative, I can't reach or put the bottles back without taking the pack off, the mesh is too high. I think they should add more fabric here to make them pockets, as is the mesh stretches but won't fit all water bottles. Side note the 04 aether mesh pockets are much better designed and stronger. The hipbelt pockets have a flap over the zippers( I believe it's to keep water out) but they are annoying, it's a hassle to do while hiking. Ula hipbelt pockets are much better. Lastly the sleeping bag compartment spacer can't be removed I don't use it, it's not a big deal though you just have to move it out of the away. Overall it's a solid bag, its a day pack to thruhike pack. The excellent fit/comfort far overshadows the negatives. Will use on my 2017 AT thru hike

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size the pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size chart above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelt size info above to help determine your ideal pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
