Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for tall WOMEN too I went to the store looking for a bag to take camping and on day hikes in the Chugach. I tried on several women's bags, but the associate recommended that I try a men's/unisex bag, too. I'm 6'2" with broader shoulders and (though there are some curves) I am a bit straighter through the torso. And wow! This bag fit sooo much better. I've used it a few times and it's worked out great. Now I can carry all our gear while my husband has our kid!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ultralight rig Just got this pack to start an ultralight overnight/weekender bag. I have a 60L Aether AG that is my load hauler/extended trip bag but I wanted to try a lighter more minimalist approach. I am able to fit my feather friends 20 degree down bag and big Agnes copper spur hv ul2 in two 6L compression sacks in the bottom compartment of this bag, with minimal effort. For me I really prefer this set up as it makes setting up camp a breeze and I was stoked I was able to fit both items in the sleeping bag compartment. The main compartment holds my jet boil micromo, msr guardian pump, and sleeping pad with plenty of extra room. I am really sold on osprey's external water bladders as they don't take up interior space of the pack like many others. Overall build quality is to my Osprey expectations, which is superb. For me this looks like it is going to be a perfect fit for my needs and I would def recommend this pack to someone looking for a similar set up, or a great all purpose pack for shorter trips or traveling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Carry for Long Day Hiking or Loaded Down I'm a professional traveler in my day job and I absolutely love great bags. I use the very best I can afford; Tumi, LL Bean, TravelPro, etc. Having the right bag is an essential part of being super efficient and effective. That level thinking applies even more to backpacking and Osprey is unparalleled. I've been a backpacker since I was a Boy Scout, 25 years ago. I'm not an ultra-minimalist, but if I don't need it, I don't take it. I was carrying a Kelty bag for some time, had a North Face, and then, on a trip with my brother, he showed me his original Osprey. I fell in love with its simplicity and ease of carry as well as the customer service from Osprey. I ordered the Kestrel 38 about 4 years ago and can honestly say, I've never carried a more comfortable bag. Size your bag correctly and Osprey will carry better than any bag on the market, whether loaded down for a weekend or lightly loaded for a hike with the kids. The size is perfectly versatile; forcing you to think about your load on long weekends, and leaving plenty of room for day hikes. The long and short is that this is the best hiking back I've ever owned and based on the quality, build, and longevity; when it comes time for the next one--I'll be buying an Osprey.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One Issue Nice comfortable pack for day hikes. However, since I bought my last Kestrel 38, you removed one of the ice axe loops and the bungee strap above it. I don't know when this happened, but WHY? I took it back to the store thinking it was a defect. I used both ice axe loops and the corresponding bungee cords above them to store my trekking poles away when I knew I was not going to need them for a few miles. Now I have to settle with storing one pole I guess. It was a great alternative to keep them neatly packed away rather than using that gadget on the side (stow & go?), which is good for more temporary storage. Did Osprey do it to cut costs? It's not like these two features were in the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing mid sized pack This pack was purchased for my boyfriend to match my Kyte 36. The Kyte and Kestrel bags are amazingly comfortable, the Airscape harness is so comfortable. We love the hip belt pockets and sleeping bag compartment. We are taking these packs on a 3 day backpacking trip and all our gear fits comfortably with room to spare. Perfect bag for shorter backpacking trips.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice pack but not ideal for extended climbing sessions I like this pack pretty well but it isn't big enough for my needs. I climb carrying a 70 meter rope, webbing and other gear for setting up a climb but this bag is mostly full once the rope is inside. For this purpose, I would recommend starting with something slightly larger. This pack is very comfortable to wear and fits very well. It is quite adjustable which is nice. I really really like that it has a side zip the length of the pack. I wish there was something like the front panel Daisy chains in the top of the inside of the pack. I found I wanted to hang carabiners or other gear at the top so they would stay up there but wasn't able to. The back stretch panel seems small and seems less flexible than something like the variant has I think (though I haven't seen it in person). I like this pack and would recommend it though something like the variant might suit my needs better. Would highly like something to hang things in the bag as mentioned previously.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for overnights and long hikes Thanks to osprey for making flawless products. I use this pack for long hikes and overnights, and it performs flawlessly. It is very comfy for loads up to 30 lb, for me that is enough gear for an overnight (ultra light tent included). Only complaint are the side mesh pockets. I mainly use them for 1l water bottles, but I have to take off my pack to reach them. I'd wish they were angled like the ones on other packs. To solve these I use 3l bladder in the specific reservoir compartment, and fill it with my water bottles when is empty. The materials and the overall manufacturing are very high quality. And I think the price is just right for what you get. I almost forget the great rain cover that was included ! Thanks for making these products so good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent well-made Backpack Overnighters or Week I love the excellent construction, features, and size. This is a perfect backpack for my body type and packing needs. Works great for overnighters or week long excursions. The lid could be larger but it is a great backpack.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size the pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size chart above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelt size info above to help determine your ideal pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
