Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag Perfect for backpacking around hostels. I used this bag during a RTW trip in India, Egypt, Indonesia, Switzerland, UAE, and Oman. Great day bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for international travel I have been using the Farpoint 55 in the small size for traveling around South America. It has been great. Holds everything I need as well as my work computer which is easy to carry in smaller detachable backpack. I like how the smaller backpack also easily attaches to the straps of the larger portion for easy carrying when I want my valuables in front of me. I have had no issues with carrying the whole backpack onboard airlines as my carryon, even on smaller foreign domestic flights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack This is an excellent backpack to travel, specifically if you’re going backpacking or flying easy for the check out. I’ll highly recommend this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Regret buying it I liked this backpack over the 40 because of the detachable day bag. I bought it for a long trip and when it was fully packed, it was too heavy with the smaller bag attached. I ended up having to carry the small bag around separately which wasn't at all what I wanted. I had previously recommended it to my brother and sister in law and noticed that they were doing the same thing. It does fit in the overhead on larger airplanes (something 6 seats wide or more) but would be questionable on smaller ones. I have seen people in airports with the 55 and they are always carrying the smaller pack in their hands. I have never seen anyone with the day pack on their back. I ended up buying the 40 and am much happier with it. It's smaller but is 100% guaranteed to be a carry on. I wish osprey would build a space for the laptop along the back and fix the water bottle holders which are practically non-functioning.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pack! Just wish they made it fit carry-on standards Best pack ever. I travel a lot and I've used duffel bags and those Ironman bags they give to participants. Really great for keeping your things organized since it's top loaded. I also appreciate how it lets me utilize the day pack since most of the time i have to stash one inside my check-in luggage. I just wish they could've made the S/M pack short enough to fit into international carry-on standards because I get nervous bringing it as a carry-on on flights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect size I was looking for a pack that made the most sense for traveling and going on day trips while traveling. This pack enables me to go from Airbnb’s to Hostels to hotels all while utilizing different transportation. The pack is versatile. You can use it as a duffle, or as a pack. The day pack easily zips off for those days trips too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and Ready for a Trip Around the World I bought this bag for a two week trip to Japan and it was beyond perfect! With lots of train rides and walking around between hostels, this bag was great to have. It had plenty of room for everything I needed with room to spare for fun souvenirs. The hidden backpack straps and hip belt made carrying it around very comfortable, and much easier than trying to mess around with large rolling luggage, which made my friends SUPER jealous, especially with the number of stairs we had to go up and down. The removable daypack was perfect for day adventures when I wanted to leave my clothes and things back at the hostel with enough room for a rain shell, water, snacks, cameras, and any knick-knacks I picked up along the way. It was also perfect for taking through the airport as my carry-on as it comfortably held my computer and large headphones, so I could kick back and watch my movies on the 12 hour plane ride. The only downside I noticed when using this bag was when I got back home one of the exterior compression strap buckles broke at some point while going through baggage handling. Its an easy fix, and since it happened as I was getting home it wasn't an issue at all. I would recommend picking up an Airporter to go along with it for extra protection if you are planning on checking it for a flight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent pack, excellent warranty! This is an awesome pack, I absolutely love it. I've used it to backpack Asia and Cuba where the majority of the time was spent in the city, and I've also used it on a 53 km hike in the New Zealand wilderness. The pack has fared great on every occasion. It is a true "all purpose" backpack. However, if I had to pick one "best-use", this pack is better for travel backpacking as opposed to long distance hiking trips. It should be noted that this is not a high-tech hiking pack, so this should be expected. It is definitely manageable for extended difficult hikes, but I can see how a more expensive backpacking trail pack would be more comfortable. Finally, the best feature of this pack is that it is able to be taken as a carry-on!! Just detach the daypack and where it as your personal backpack, then hand-carry the main pack onto the plane. I have never been told it was too large. PS - My zipper broke after a few years of use and Osprey sent me a brand new pack. Great company.

Are all Far-point bags waterproof? I'm looking to use the bag for my trip across Europe in the Spring, but I also want to use it when snowboarding and skiing.

Asked by: Troy
Hiya Troy, thanks for your question! The Farpoint packs are water resistant, but not waterproof. You'll need a rain cover for protection. Here is a link to that item: https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ultralight-Raincover_10270427_10208_10000001_-1_ Keep in mind that the 55 liter pack is a tad too big to qualify as a carry-on, if you are traveling that route. The 40 liter pack is perfect fit. Here is a link: https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Farpoint-40-Travel-Pack_10303520_10208_10000001_-1_ I hope you have fantastic adventures!

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
