Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product; very please, a few minor suggestions I bought this pack primarily for business travel to replace a rolling suitcase, knowing I would use it for leisure as well. Excellent concept, design and execution. Very durable; I've loaded it very heavily with no issues. Ideal for remaining hands-free in airport lines. Absolutely fits in every overhead bin I've tried. The pack is comfortable and roomy (I'm constantly surprised at how much I can load into mine. A few minor gripes: the interior compression straps work great but can get lost while packing; the exterior mesh pockets could be a bit roomier for a water bottle, etc but the exterior compression straps hold everything in; I find the partitions in the laptop pocket to be superfluous; exterior pockets on the side would be handy. Final note: I thought I would use the zipper cover over the straps but I don't; it's just not convenient before boarding, etc. I do use the overly large storage pocket for the cover for other items like my rain jacket, laptop charger, etc. as I find the Velcro closure very secure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bag I've ever bought I bought this bag for a round the world trip with my boyfriend. I bought him the same bag for the trip because it was so good. We've saved hundreds of Euros on flights because these bags fit as hand luggage on all flights. Not only that, 3 months into my trip I broke my foot and had to use two crutches for 6 weeks. The bag was so well fitted and neat that I was actually able to carry it with my two crutches no problem!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag at a great price I just recently started traveling more and wanted a backpack in place of my old rolling carryon. This bag has so many useful features, looks nice, and I was able to snag it at a great price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag. Amazing Warranty Service. This is a great bag. It has fit on all airlines as a carry-on, never had issues in that regard. The bag opens up very wide, and is easy to pack. It works well with packing cubes, and the compression straps along the outside are great to cinch the bag down. I have used it for camping, weekend trips, day hikes, 4-5 day backpacking trips (in moderate climate). The bag is great. The only complaint is that the laptop pouch is not heavily padded, and just seems as though it may bend the laptop if the bag were to be too full.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent travel pack! I bought the Farpoint 40 for 10 day backpack trip across Europe and was thoroughly satisfied. The different storage compartments provided enough space and accessibility for clothing and basic travel necessities, while not being too bulky for easy storage and lifting on trains, planes and buses. Would definitely recommend this bag for the light packer looking to move quick.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality pack My partner and I bought these packs over 2 years ago now. They still look brand new, despite using them quite a lot. We have the large size (42 Litres). This size is perfect for us, and we intend on using them when we travel full time. I only have a few issues with this bag. 1. The laptop compartment is at the front of the bag. This changes how the weight is distributed. It should be against your back. 2. The water bottle holders at the front are pretty useless. If your bag isn't completely full, you can use them. But with the straps going over the top, it's still not very convenient or secure. 3. I wish there were more compartments for little pieces. Apart from those issues, I love these bags and do recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack!! I bought this a month ago, and used it once fora week travel. It is great and much easier compare to a suitcase when travel with flight. So love it!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed This bag is large enough for everyday carry and under the 45 liter max for airplane carry on limits. The backpack can also function with a side carry or strap. I spent a lot of time on Reddit and YouTube researching reviews for packs. Osprey comes out on top consistently.

does it have a slot for a hydration tube?

Asked by: stormchaser
Hey there, thanks for reaching out to us! Normally I do a little joke at this point....but not today. If there's one thing I take seriously it's hydration. Don't believe me, just ask my second ex-wife. So, I just double checked this, and unfortunately, this does NOT have a slot for a hydration tube. However, there are dual front mesh pockets that are perfect for water bottles! Hooray! Hope this helped you out!!

Hello! The picture looks black, while the 360 looks almost green. Trying to get a sense of which color it actually is. Thanks!

Asked by: Trey
Hi there, thanks for your question! The Volcanic Grey color (black) is what is pictured. The 360 image is of a different color from a past season. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi, can you confirm if all colors of Farpoint 40 in-stock include buckles on the shoulder straps for hooking/connecting an osprey daypack? Osprey redesigned the 2018 model for this and wanted to confirm Moosejaw has this one. Pics of red pack show it.

Asked by: Explorer18
Hey there, Explorer18! Great question, since it's no fun hauling around a big pack on a simple day hike... Both the Jasper Red and Volcanic Grey colors of this pack are from Spring 2018, and do feature the buckles on the shoulder straps for connecting a daypack with ease. I hope this helps!

Why, if you are a Canadian store would you not ship the Osprey Farpoint 46 to Canada????

Asked by: Marilyn
Hey, Anonymous - we LOVE our Canadian neighbors and wish we could be adopted, but... we are NOT a Canadian store. You must have had us confused with Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, eh? Our address is: 32200 North Avis Suite 100, Madison Heights, MI 48071 USA

Hi. Do you have the 2017 model? If yes, what is/are the difference/s from the previous model? Thanks.

Asked by: cassidy91
Hiya cassidy91, thanks for your question! We will be getting the 2017 version after the remaining 2016 versions are sold out. The only difference is the logo, which will change to an all grey embroidered Osprey logo, rather than the red, black and grey patch. By the way, there will be a new women's version of this pack coming out next year (named The Fairview) which will have some changes. Hope this helps!

Can I attach this one to the back of the 80L sojourn as if it was a daylite pack ? I'd like to use this one as carry on and the sojourn as checked luggage.

Asked by: JoeV
HIya JoeV, thanks for your question! The short answer is that you *could* attach the Farpoint pack to the Sojourn pack... but you'd have to get creative. There are no attachment points on the Farpoint pack so you would need to use compression scraps, a bungee cord or some other device that will keep them connected. A better option would be either the Daylite Pack, Daylite Plus Pack or Ozone Day Pack. The Daylite (15 liters) and Daylite Plus (20 liters) packs have the coordinating connection points with the Sojourn pack but they are a much smaller capacity than the Farpoint. The Ozone Day Pack is available in larger sizes (24, 35 and 46 liters) but it does not have the connection points. Alternatively, the top handle on the Ozone Day is wide enough to slide through the telescoping expandable handle on the Sojourn. Here are links to the packs I mentioned: Daylite Pack https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Daylite-Backpack_10210087_10208_10000001_-1_ https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Daylite-Pack_10313733_10208_10000001_-1_ Osprey Daylite Plus Pack https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Daylite-Plus-Pack_10313734_10208_10000001_-1_ Ozone Day Pack https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ozone-Day-Pack-24_10286161_10208_10000001_-1_ https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ozone-Travel-Pack-35_10286162_10208_10000001_-1_ https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ozone-Travel-Pack-46_10286163_10208_10000001_-1_ Hope this helps!

Can the Osprey Farpoint 40 in size M/L be brought as a carry-on while traveling by plane or does it need to be checked in? Thank you!

Asked by: Gregory
Hiya Gregory, thanks for your question! This pack measures 21 x 14 x 9 inches and the maximum dimensions for a carry-on bag (most airlines) are 22 inches x 14 inches x 9 inches including handles, so it just fits! It's always a good idea to check with your airline to confirm this. Hope this helps!

Osprey Farpoint 40 Travel Pack, how do I know what size to buy? I am 70, 6' tall and 190 lbs. Any input would be appreciated before I place my order. Thank you, Rev. Thom, Mission Pawsible

Asked by: Sierra Tracker
Thanks for the question! The pack size will actually depend on your torso length. You can find this information by measuring from the C7 vertebrae to iliac crest. The Small/ Medium will fit 15-19 inches, and the Medium/ Large will fit 18-22 inches. I hope this information help!

Volume / Pack Capacity 38 liters / 2319 cubic inches 40 liters / 2441 cubic inches -
Dimensions 20 x 14 x 8 in. 21 x 14 x 9 in. -
Weight 3.11 lbs 3.17 lbs -

Pack Weight Capacity 20 - 40 lbs

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size the pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size chart above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelt size info above to help determine your ideal pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
