Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Anyone Looking for a One Bag Carry On As an avid traveler, I was looking to get into the one bag movement and to pack lighter. This backpack consistently was mentioned as one of the best carry on backpacks available. After doing some research, I decided on the Osprey Farpoint 40. It was a great choice. The backpack is made of quality materials, from the material of the backpack itself, to the zippers and straps. It has enough space in the main compartment to fit enough items for a longer trip as long as you pack light and use packing cubes. My only minor complaint is the laptop compartment, which is located in the front of the backpack. If you have a heavy laptop, having the compartment in the front messes with the weight distribution and also there is a risk of bending the laptop when the bag is at capacity. Fortunately, I rarely travel with a laptop so this isn’t an issue for me. I highly recommend this backpack for anyone new to the one bag movement or just wants a quality travel backpack that counts as a carry on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect travel pack?! I’ve been an osprey fan for 20+ years and so when I was in the market for a new travel/carry on bag they were at the top of the list. I settled on the Farpoint 40 due to size and features. My first trip was 7 days in the Dominican Republic and it handled everything perfectly. I will also be traveling 1-2 times per month for the foreseeable future and expect this pack to be perfect for that as well. I loved the ability to have the straps out for distance carrying or stow them away when traveling via taxi/bus. Plenty of pockets that are easily accessible, but not so many things get lost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought for #1 son then #2 son and now myself I bought for my son since he was planning to travel a lot. At first he was reluctant to give up hi wheelie suitecase. But now he uses this pack exclusively. Bought one for my second son when went away to college. And he lovesit Just bought this 3rd one for myself. Very well made. Perfect size for sort trips

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid bang for your buck! This pack is super durable and holds way more than expected. Better than a hard shell carry-on and more versatile. One of the best purchases I’ve made all year!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features and perfect for traveling This pack is the perfect size for carry on, which saves money to travel abroad. It's also good for a day hike, and the straps, space, comfort are all checking the boxes. I haven't had it for too long, but I have heard that Osprey stands by their products for life so no worries there. I got a great deal and intend to use this quite a bit when traveling abroad or in the mountains of GA/TN.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved the pockets and stow away back pack straps! Bought this a couple months ago and used on every weekend outing since ! The front pouch makes everything very accessible and the inside is nice and organized with designated pockets for your gear

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent portability! I use my pack exclusively for traveling abroad. This pack provides me the opportunity to never have to check a bag, which improves my time from clean to the street and thus gives me more time to explore the places I travel to!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag Excellent bag. This is my favorite for trips. Very comfortable to carry. I wish Osprey would do the following: 1. Add laptop sleeve on the back 2. Fix water bottle holders on the front which are useless. Nothing fits in there once the bag is packed. 3. Add carry straps on the bottom to strap in additional gear. 4. Make mesh panel a little deeper.

does it have a slot for a hydration tube?

Asked by: stormchaser
Hey there, thanks for reaching out to us! Normally I do a little joke at this point....but not today. If there's one thing I take seriously it's hydration. Don't believe me, just ask my second ex-wife. So, I just double checked this, and unfortunately, this does NOT have a slot for a hydration tube. However, there are dual front mesh pockets that are perfect for water bottles! Hooray! Hope this helped you out!!

Hello! The picture looks black, while the 360 looks almost green. Trying to get a sense of which color it actually is. Thanks!

Asked by: Trey
Hi there, thanks for your question! The Volcanic Grey color (black) is what is pictured. The 360 image is of a different color from a past season. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi, can you confirm if all colors of Farpoint 40 in-stock include buckles on the shoulder straps for hooking/connecting an osprey daypack? Osprey redesigned the 2018 model for this and wanted to confirm Moosejaw has this one. Pics of red pack show it.

Asked by: Explorer18
Hey there, Explorer18! Great question, since it's no fun hauling around a big pack on a simple day hike... Both the Jasper Red and Volcanic Grey colors of this pack are from Spring 2018, and do feature the buckles on the shoulder straps for connecting a daypack with ease. I hope this helps!

Why, if you are a Canadian store would you not ship the Osprey Farpoint 46 to Canada????

Asked by: Marilyn
Hey, Anonymous - we LOVE our Canadian neighbors and wish we could be adopted, but... we are NOT a Canadian store. You must have had us confused with Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, eh? Our address is: 32200 North Avis Suite 100, Madison Heights, MI 48071 USA

Hi. Do you have the 2017 model? If yes, what is/are the difference/s from the previous model? Thanks.

Asked by: cassidy91
Hiya cassidy91, thanks for your question! We will be getting the 2017 version after the remaining 2016 versions are sold out. The only difference is the logo, which will change to an all grey embroidered Osprey logo, rather than the red, black and grey patch. By the way, there will be a new women's version of this pack coming out next year (named The Fairview) which will have some changes. Hope this helps!

Can I attach this one to the back of the 80L sojourn as if it was a daylite pack ? I'd like to use this one as carry on and the sojourn as checked luggage.

Asked by: JoeV
HIya JoeV, thanks for your question! The short answer is that you *could* attach the Farpoint pack to the Sojourn pack... but you'd have to get creative. There are no attachment points on the Farpoint pack so you would need to use compression scraps, a bungee cord or some other device that will keep them connected. A better option would be either the Daylite Pack, Daylite Plus Pack or Ozone Day Pack. The Daylite (15 liters) and Daylite Plus (20 liters) packs have the coordinating connection points with the Sojourn pack but they are a much smaller capacity than the Farpoint. The Ozone Day Pack is available in larger sizes (24, 35 and 46 liters) but it does not have the connection points. Alternatively, the top handle on the Ozone Day is wide enough to slide through the telescoping expandable handle on the Sojourn. Here are links to the packs I mentioned: Daylite Pack https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Daylite-Backpack_10210087_10208_10000001_-1_ https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Daylite-Pack_10313733_10208_10000001_-1_ Osprey Daylite Plus Pack https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Daylite-Plus-Pack_10313734_10208_10000001_-1_ Ozone Day Pack https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ozone-Day-Pack-24_10286161_10208_10000001_-1_ https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ozone-Travel-Pack-35_10286162_10208_10000001_-1_ https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ozone-Travel-Pack-46_10286163_10208_10000001_-1_ Hope this helps!

Can the Osprey Farpoint 40 in size M/L be brought as a carry-on while traveling by plane or does it need to be checked in? Thank you!

Asked by: Gregory
Hiya Gregory, thanks for your question! This pack measures 21 x 14 x 9 inches and the maximum dimensions for a carry-on bag (most airlines) are 22 inches x 14 inches x 9 inches including handles, so it just fits! It's always a good idea to check with your airline to confirm this. Hope this helps!

Does this pack have a rain cover? Also, is it water resistant or water proof?

Asked by: Canoe bound
Great question! The Farpoint 40 Travel Pack is definitely water-resistant. Unfortunately, the Rain Cover is sold separately to make it waterproof. My suggestion is the Osprey Ultralight Raincover in size Medium - which fits 30-50 liter packs. I included a link below. Hope this helps! https://bit.ly/39WNmdE

You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
