Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast & steady I've been looking at this boat for the last 6 months. I've been paddling a 12' boat with no skeg on the Detroit River. This boat is much more stable and, with the skeg, doesn't weathercock. Very fast boat as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boat, but now discontinued The Necky kayak brand is part of Old Town, and they recently discontinued the Necky line, but I expect similar kayaks to be made under the Old Town label. I was planning to get a 12 foot kayak, but as a discounted item, I stepped up to the 14 foot Manitou. It's only a little heavier (more length, but also less wide as a partial weight offset). At 24 inches wide, it's still extremely stable, the 14 foot length lets it track well, and the skeg is a plus (I normally only put it down partially). I haven't used the two hatches as storage, since I only go on short paddles. However, I see the two hatches as more of a safety feature in case of a capsize (hasn't happened yet, given my preference for calmer waters). I use a 220 cm paddle with the boat. I also liked the Perception Carolina 12, but the Manitou 14 was only a little more on a recent sale. I had test paddled both boats locally, so I knew what I was getting (and that the boats would properly fit me). I had two local outdoor stores near my home that sold kayaks, but unfortunately they both went out of business recently. I was glad to see that Moosejaw offered shipping directly to the home. Thanks Moosejaw (:->)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful recreational and touring kayak Have paddled the Manitou 14 now 6 times since purchase a month ago. Just getting back into recreational kayaking and planning a week long excursion on upper Willamette river in Oregon(slow and medium moving water with some 1,1+, and -2 rapids). Nice fit for me at 5'7" 170#. Seems quite stable after readjusting feel from a wider flatter 10.5 that I fish out of but the longer narrower hull gives a speedier ride and tracking capability. Very happy with Necky performance and quality
