Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the price Purchased these backpacks for a work project where we needed to hike 60-80lbs of soil samples out of a remote desert location. Worked like a champ! Great features - lots of straps/access points, 100% adjustable to torso length and girth. The pack has only seen 1 real backpacking trip - 2 days, 18 miles. Easy peasy compared to its work use!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great packbag, lousy quality and weight transfer Pros: -great pack bag. Love that the lid and torpedo pockets aren’t compressed by the main bag. The side pockets are deep and are not made useless by the compression straps. Sleeping bag design is good. Cons: -I could not get the pack to effectively transfer weight to my hips. Kept sliding down as others have mentioned. Waistbelt just did not work. -bad quality. I was shocked to see numerous stitching errors, loose threads, and misrouted shoulder straps on BOTH packs I tried (ordered a second because I thought the first had to be a ringer). In addition, the hipbelt on the second had an obvious and major deformity in the foam. It is made in the Philippines. My Mystery Ranch stuff made in Vietnam is of great quality. -lazy design. No hipbelt pockets, no key clip in the lid, not even an ice axe keeper like the Glacier has. Come on guys. It says it’s hydration compatible but there is no sleeve for a bladder. I actually liked the simple design but you need to add a few things and fix the QC issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very unique pack This is a very cool pack and seems very durable. The sleeping bag area is tight for my large sleeping bag, but I can get it in. Tons of straps and very comfortable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overpriced book bag Bought this bag last season when they first became available around 8/16. I have a bit of experience with the Dana design bags that preceded the mystery ranch version. The Dana bags were top notch super durable pre ultra lite bomb proof bags that carried weight (60lbs) exceptionally well. I wished I could have handled the terra plane prior to purchasing. The layout, design, and construction of the bag are still comparable to the Dana terra plane, the similarities end at the shoulder harness and hip belt. I am seriously disappointed in the way this bag carries weight. After several sub 10 mile shakedown outings, loaded at only 42 lbs I found myself constantly cinching the hip belt and adjusting and reloading the bag I found that hip belt lost its form and shoulder straps dig through the padding. Logic would depict that a company like mystery ranch with the design knowledge from the Dana design years and access to new state of the art materials the old terra plane would be at least marginally improved, not the case. If anyone is listening at mystery ranch, please put the old harness assembly on the new bag. The human to bag interface is cr-p, feels like an old book bag from elementary school. I don't mind spending good money for good quality products but I got some buyers remorse from this purchase. If you are looking for a Dana design bag, go find a good used one they are still out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as it gets... You won't find a better pack. High quality, great design, these packs last forever...this is my second Dana pack. I loaned my last one to a "friend" and never saw it again...a mistake I won't make twice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Rugged Pack The Terraplane is a great old-school pack - I mean that as a compliment; a little heavier than some of the new packs, but the load carriage system is second to none and the pack is very rugged and built to last a long time. I need more volume because I backpack with Scouts and need to carry extra gear and this pack is perfect for that.

I am somewhat familiar with these packs. I tried one of my buddies on last season (though unsure of model).  I understand the company only makes one size frame, but has different size waist belts and should straps to customize fit.  How do they ship?

Asked by: nuts
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us. We have two sizes for this pack. The Medium and Large both are for 18-21 inch torsos, and the Medium fits a 29-34 inch waist, and the Large fits a 34-39 inch waist. I hope this helps!
