The MSR Reactor 1.0L Stove System is one of the fastest and most fuel efficient stoves currently on the market (able to boil .5 liters of water in 1.5 minutes). It is a solid choice for the ultralight thru-hiker all the way to the casual camper. The 1 liter pot is ample volume for 1-2 people (and can easily handle two Ramen noodle packets or two-serving dehydrated meals). The heat exchanger completely encloses the radiant burner head and virtually takes the wind out of the equation. This means faster boil times and efficient fuel usage. The stove and fuel both pack into the pot for ultimate convenience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed Couldn't be happier with the performance of the stove, it really gets the same performance as advertised on the MSR site

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Blazing hot Maybe I should have expected this, but the claims are curvy on the warning: very hot! I tested the boiling water of 1 liter, and it was sub 2 minutes. Only complaint was that the initial lighting of the gas took a few too many times and I scorched my arm hair when it finally lit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from holy smokes This stove boils water incredibly fast. Good for melting snow as well. One gripe is that it's tough to cook food with because it's simply TOO HOT. I would like to see an improved model with a simmering plate/spacer that would act to diffuse some of the bitchin' heat. This thing literally roars when turned on, it's quite amazing. Everything packs away into the pot too, very solid.,,,,I have done some winter camping and struggled with isobutane in the past, and this is no exception. I would buy a liquid fuel stove for high altitude or winter camping if I were to do it all over again. ,,,,Overall, highly recommended.,,,,+ ,,compact,,hotter than hell,,great for melting snow,,saves fuel,,solid pot construction,,,,-,,too hot to simmer without supervision,,the handle latch will snap your hand sometimes,,not good for beach camping (sand gets in burner and difficult to remove)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only choice when you go high When you go to some place high altitude, this is your best choice. It burs fantastically fast. You can also store the burn head in the pot. Nice one. I would say the packaging isn't so good as the design of the system. The valve on the burn head hits the pot a lot. I bought quite a few Reactors for my friends. Many pots had baffles during impacts. They should cover the burn head with airbags.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with my choice My main need for a stove was for a quick, efficient, and simple way to heat water for dehydrated meals while backpacking. It came down to two models, the MSR Reactor and Jetboil. I went with the Reactor and I couldn't be happier with my choice.,,,,While the Jetboil features an auto-igniter, it's prone to failure (numerous accounts), and as such, you're required to carry a separate source of backup spark, adding additional weight to the built-in ignitor. It also isn't impervious to wind, and the tall and narrow shape of the pot doesn't lend well to eating out of it.,,,,The Reactor on the other hand is a true tank. I tested this in front of a huge shop fan to simulate the worst conditions I could think of and the stove didn't even flinch. The system is extremely well built (albeit a bit heavier than the Jetboil), and the speed is really astounding. The packing arrangement is a bit of a pain, but once you figure the trick out, it's much easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stove! Of my entire group of backpackers I am the only one who uses the MSR Reactor, everyone else uses Jetboils. The only down side to the reactor is the fact that it does not have an ignition system built in, other wise it is great. It is very wind proof compared to the Jetboil and Since we began our trips I have convinced two of my fellow backpackers to switch from the Jetboil to the MSR Reactor. If anyone is looking for the good, reliable and efficient stove this is it.

In terms of compact packaging for backpacking, will the 1.0 Liter pot hold the stove and an eight (8) ounce fuel canister?

Asked by: Jack
That's a great question! The Reactor 1.0L Stove System was designed to fit exclusively inside the Reactor Pot - and that includes the MSR Isopro fuel canister :)
