The MSR Papa Hubba NX 4-Person Tent is a free-standing tent for group backpacking and family trips into the woods. The Mutha Hubba has been around for awhile, and only since 2014 have gear nuts and hiking gurus been able to meet the Papa Hubba, a lightweight tent with plenty of room. The minimum weight of 5 lbs, 15 oz allows you to pack it up and carry from camp to camp along the trail, all while still featuring two doors with built-in rain gutters and two vestibules for your gear. The 20D ripstop nylon, 1200mm Durashield™ polyurethane & silicone coating on the rain fly keeps the group protected from harsh rains, while the 30D ripstop nylon with 3000mm Durashield™ polyurethane & DWR protects from wet grounds below. Now all you need to do is to draw straws for who gets to carry the tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Arjay from Super for backpacking! I bought this tent about 3 mo. ago and have waited until now to give it a fair review. The tent is super lightweight for it's size & is ideal for backpacking. I would say that the 4 person size is a stretch, (as all such capacity ratings usually are) but you could fit 2 adults and a child fairly comfortably. I love that you can roll back the rainfly for stargazing. On nice nights, the open design of the tent is great, and on wet nights the rainfly keeps you dry as a bone. Overall I would recommend this tent, however there are a couple things that I wish were different. One being the headroom. The sides of the tent are at a fairly sharp angle, not giving you much room for anything along the edge of the floor. A tall (double)air mattress will not fit. (more than 5") I also would have appreciated more detailed information on staking, and how to use the straps and tightening devices. However, after setting it up several times, I think I've got it figured out. I am still giving this tent the highest rating, as the quality of construction and design are excellent. .

Rated 4 out of 5 by Deet from Seems like engineers tent So I bought this tent to camp in Utah with, and set it up in the living room to get a feel for ease of setup. I was glad my wife was there to assist the first time setting up, but I feel like I could do it on my own now. Everything seems well designed, with the pole toggles machined out of aluminum and the poles prevent slightly. The floor of the tent feels pretty thin, so I bought the footprint as well, and that also feels thin. We'll see how well they hold up to our camping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Redwood 101 from Super Light Weight ! Purchased this for my family back packing adventures- It fit confortably two adults, a toddler and two 75 lbs dogs. When I go on long back country adventures with just the dogs, I take this tent because it provides so much room and comfort but doesn't kill the back. Some trips my dog huffs it for me! Pros: 1. It was easy to set up too. 2. It has a duffle bag style stuff sack that makes pack out super quick. 3 Its lighter than my single man tent !!! Cons : 1. You have to tie out all the slack lines on the rain fly to make it tight so that all the water comes off. There are a lot of them. 2. It also has a small vestibule compared to the size of the tent. 3. Lastly, the mesh netting is very fine to a fault. Any contact with netting caused it to stretch and leave areas that look like they are about to tear.

Rated 4 out of 5 by mets 1919 from Light and compact Good to carry around because of its light weight. Attached strap belts on the bag can even make the size smaller by squeezing it. Thin fabrics makes me wonder how durable it can be. Not tested in the fields so I will see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Scouter 41 from Papa’s happy Wow, this was a big purchase for the family but well worth the investment as we can now backpack our way deep into the backcountry and enjoy a comfortable home away from home. We are traveling to Iceland at the end of June; the Papa Hubba will certainly be put to the test. Our first experience with the tent was not short of a success. The tent is lightweight, well made, and roomy enough. Setting up and taking down is straightforward enough. This tent inspires confidence when camping and thus, Papa’s happy with the Hubba.

It only took 5-7 minutes working in a tight space between our fireplace and my daughter's current Lego project (with a little help from her :)). We've had pretty high quality tents in the past, but not backpacking tents. I'm very impressed with the light-weight of this tent, but also understand the difference in materials from a high-end car camping tent. Been working on my wife for a couple years to try backpacking - just a couple nights here and there so she recently bought a pack and we got one for our daughter, too. Just have a few more things to get before this fall...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bails from Best tent I have used! Used this tent on a cross country road trip car camping adventure. Its lightweight durable quality is very impressive. Comfortable for three plus gear(what we did), four can fit. Pitching it is very easy and quick, even at 1 in the morning with one flashlight. Forgot a footprint, and used it without one on some rocky terrain I wasn't sure about. The rip stop held up beautifully and no holes were found. Every part of the tent worked perfectly from the rain fly to the zippers and the netting from the mountains of Colorado, to the dusty winds of Utah, and the forests of California. Would recommend!

Checking out the MSR Papa H for use in rocky areas where tent may not be completely staked: 1 Is this tent stable in these conditions? 2 Will netting keep out no-see-ums?

Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! With this tent, it works best when it's thoroughly staked. If it's not completely staked, it will still function, but we can't guarantee that the tent will be completely stable. As for the netting, MSR uses top quality, and I've never heard any problems with no-see-ums. You should be fine! Hope this helps you out!
