Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this tent I was using this tent last year during a 600km hike from Rom to Bologna, and several 20-100km hikes since then. It never failed on me. Others who complain about water that fills up the roof: yeah, happened to me a couple of times, till i figuered out how to set it up properly when there is heavy rain. I than used the extra loops and staking the tent down on 11 different points. No longer an issue. The size is just awsome. For 1 Person... you wound find more space for this weight. Condensation: its a singlewall tent! so yes, there is condensation depending on weather condition. I have a tiny towel with me and once or twice a night, whenever I have to go to the toilet, I wipe the water inside off the roof. this is the same with all singelwall tents. Warst thing that happens in case you dont wake up during a humid night: you have some drops on you sleeping bag. No a big deal. I just love this tent. I have seen many other ultralight Tents, like the famous one from ZPack, but I in all others, headspace is very limited. There is no vestibule. Using it with 2 persons you have to keep your luggage outside. We took some 120l gargbage bags with us, for our backbags in case of rain. But for a single traveler: I still dont understand why this tent is not more popular. Buy this tent and learn to set it up properly. If you wann go ultralight and still have plenty of space: this is the tent!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the name MS(afety)R or shelter As mentioned in other reviews, it is not suitable for rainy weather. The water puddles is the middle of the roof.I asked MSR and my dealer to take back this improperly designed "tent", but according to them everything is fine with the tent and I am too stupid to put it up right. All I got was a non personal pre written answer that did not refer to my letters once. I was a big fan of MSR and their products. After this desaster of a tent and a even wors service I will never buy their stuff again. Moreover I'll stop recommending their products, what I have been doing for years. It's a shame.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rain water collecting Mine collected water too, I shortened the post for the back of the tent by 4" and it worked perfectly. I would recommend this tent after the I made the repair

Rated 1 out of 5 by from How is this still for sale without a redesign?? I recently bought this tent, Thought I got a bargain. Big mistake. Completely unusable in the rain!! The top fills up with water like a bucket!! The roof literally came down so far that it touched me. My mistake for not reading all the poor reviews. I trusted MSR after my Missing Link and Fast Stash tents in the past. What surprised me is that MSR has known about this fatal design for awhile now. :(

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs a redesign I really enjoyed this tent, a fabulous concept and can't beat the weight, although in the rain it puddles in the middle of the tent making one very nervous. This is very much a fair weather tent and not built for the NW States or West Coast of Canada. While I recommend this tent, I ask MSR to redesign this tent so it does not puddle!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tent Failed TWICE It has not even been one year. My first tent lasted only 2 months. I was thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, which is something that people normally buy "ultralight" tents like the MSR Flylite for. It isn't necessary to have such a specialized tent for other things like car camping or short trips. There had been essentially no rain the whole summer on the trail, but the zipper completely failed despite normal use as soon as there started being rainstorms. The tent is clearly rated for "3 season" use, which means that it should hold up in rainstorms. After practically begging Cascade Designs to send me a new tent because I was still hiking and was then without proper shelter in rainy weather (a serious threat to my survival when backpacking), they finally agreed to. I received the new tent in September. I could tell it was slightly different from my previous one (different color shade and missing the tent guylines), but was grateful to have a tent to protect me from the elements again. I continued hiking until November 12th, so the new tent had about a month and a half of use at that point. I did not use it much after this, until March 2018. At the end of March 2018 I did a week-long backpacking trip through southern Utah. My second night camping, there was a windy rainstorm. When I open the tent to use the restroom that night, the zipper completely broke again. So again after about 2 months of use, the tent failed. I've since read about issues with the MSR Flylite tent design, saying that water tends to pool at the top of the tent instead of rolling off. This adds extra tension to the tent, which is probably why my zipper failed. When I sent in the 2nd broken tent to MSR to repair or replace,, they simply sent it back to me and said it was "too dirty". This is a completely ridiculous claim and an obvious attempt to avoid dealing with a faulty product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cool idea, needs a redesign I'm writing this from inside the flylite in the Appalachian Mountains in a rainstorm. Love the material, love the weight. The mini groundhog is my go to stake of choice. I like the super low mil accessory cord for the weight factor, but in reality, it's too thin to hold any kind of adjustable hitch in wet conditions. There's just not enough surface area to bite. I have a timer set for every 20 mins so I can wake up from my snooze to dump the puddle that builds in the roof. Not a great second night as a trip leader. Has anyone had success setting this up without a bowl for a roof? If so please send me tips :) . When I get back to base camp I'm gonna get a hose and try to figure it out. Any beta would be appreciated. I've tried all sorts of angles and configurations. I'm set up dozens of different shelters over the years. This ain't my first rodeo, but this one makes me feel dumb. It seems cool on paper but doesn't make sense in practice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VS the Scout 2 I prefer this to the Big Agnes Scout 2. Both a great brands but I like this design more. It's pretty elegant.

Would this tent work well on a beach to provide shade and shelter? We have to walk with all of our gear and the weight is very appealing. I'm concerned that crushed seashells could puncture the flooring...is that a valid concern?

Asked by: Wanda 77
Hey there, I would be careful about the terrain that I pitched this on. The material for this tent is 20D ripstop nylon 1200mm polyurethane & silicone, which will not be compromised through regular wear, but can get torn more easily than other non weight-saving tents on hard or rocky ground. If this tent is laid down on sharp seashells there is a chance it could be torn or punctured.
