Last updated January 1st, 2020
Opting-in to Moosejaw Rewards:
All users must accept these terms and conditions and create an account with Moosejaw to opt-in to the program and earn, accrue, retain and redeem Moosejaw Reward Dollars (MJ$). The program is FREE to join and membership is ongoing until or unless the user requests to be removed or is removed due to abuse of the program. Users can opt-in to the program while checking out on Moosejaw.com or at one of our stores or at any time within 30 days of purchase to accrue the MJ$ earned on that purchase. Once opted-in to the program, MJ$ will earn and accrue for redemption as described below until the MJ$ expire or the user leaves the program.
All information collected and used to facilitate the Moosejaw Rewards program is directly related to the program's ability to provide value to the customer. A customer opting-in to the Moosejaw Rewards program is a separate action from establishing a user profile as a result of making a purchase.
The program opt-in requirement was added on August 6th, 2019. Existing program members prior to that date must still formally opt-in and accept the terms and conditions to continue to retain, earn and redeem MJ$. Pre-existing program members that fail to opt-in prior to June 28, 2020 will be removed from the program, and any unused MJ$ will be voided. We really, really don't want to that to happen, so please opt-in or we'll feel terrible.

You may choose to leave the Moosejaw Rewards program at any time by logging in and clicking on the “Opt out Rewards Program” link within the My Account Summary page, Email, calling 877-MOOSEJAW (877-666-7352) or in-store with help from our employees. If you leave the rewards program, any unused MJ$ will be voided upon completion of your request.
Earning MJ$:
All items we sell are eligible with the exception of gift cards or other items specifically noted. Full-priced items earn 10% back while discounted items earn 2.5%. "Discounted items" includes items on sale or discounted via coupon code or use of MJ$. You do not earn MJ$ for shipping or tax charges, only from the item value. MJ$ expire two years after earning and are redeemed on a first-in, first out basis (in other words, we always use your oldest MJ$ that are closest to expiration).
Checking & Redeeming MJ$:
On Moosejaw.com, just sign-in on any page to see your available balance. Once signed in, you will see your available MJ$ and maximum that can be redeemed in the payment section of the checkout process. In stores, provide the email address attached to your account to learn your balance and apply to your purchase. We will also send you a monthly email that details your balance and other account activity. This is a transactional email that you will receive even if you are not subscribed to our marketing emails.
Bonus Rewards Promotions:
Every so often, we'll have special offers where you can earn bonus MJ$, like an additional 10%, 20% or 40% back. So if we are running a 50% back special offer, and you buy a regular-priced item for $100.00, you will receive MJ$10.00 in base points, and a bonus of MJ$40. These special offers may have a cap on how many bonus MJ$ you earn during the promotion, but you will always earn the base Reward Dollars. Make sure to check us out on our social channels for other ways to win some extra MJ$!
MJ$ on Gift Cards:
You don't get earn MJ$ when you buy a gift card, but you do get MJ$ when you spend a gift card. Sorry gift givers. You're welcome gift receivers.
Product Returns and MJ$:
If you return an item, we deduct the MJ$ earned on that item from your balance. If you used the MJ$ and your balance is less than deduction, then your refund is reduced by the difference.
Program Abuse:
The intent of the program is to provide our loyal customers with a way to buy great gear for less. Moosejaw reserves the right to remove any user from the program and zero out their MJ$ balance if Moosejaw determines that the user is abusing the program by buying for resale, attempting to game the program or any other reason at Moosejaw's sole discretion.

The MSR Elixir 3 Tent is a backpacking tent with plenty of space for 3 hikers. You should probably tent with people you know, not with some randoms on the trail. Either way, there are 2 spacious doors to get in and out of, plus 2 vestibules when the rainfly is up to tuck a pile of shoes or your packs under. The footprint is included, so you can even choose to go Fast & Light (rainfly, poles and footprint only).

Rainfly is useless...so the tent is useless.I ordered a MSR Elixir 3 tent May 3, 2017. I assembled it in my yard when I first purchased it and again in 2020. Never went on the original trip I bought it for so had not taken it camping. We just went on a hike/climb this past summer and I took it with me. When I took it out of the bag, the rainfly was flaking apart at the seems. White flaky stuff falling everywhere..and also looked worn like it would if it had been sitting in the sun even though it had not been (my siblings could not believe it was almost brand new...they were convinced someone had to sell me a used tent accidentally). We did get rained on one night and it leaked horribly. Not just the seams…the whole thing. I was pretty shocked it was in that condition considering it was barely used. It was stored in a cool, dry place. I did contact Moosejaw last year (and again recently) and they said they couldn’t do anything since warranty expired. Also contacted MSR/Cascade designs last year and they asked for my address “in case” they could help but never came to anything. I just tried using Gear Aid seam sealant and water repellant spray myself to see if I could repair the old one. Still horrible (video below). Even being past warranty….This tent has only been used on one trip (was not used on any when the problem started) and had been stored safely. I would expect much more durability from MSR brand. - I also know it is not just me because a LOT of people have had problems with the rainfly for this tent (looking at other reviews).

Elixir 3 - Very disappointingI have had my Elixir 3 for about 5 years. I take very good care of my gear was very disappointed when i noticed the waterproofing was tarting to flake off. I did not have time to worry about it before a kayak camping trip so i repacked it and hoped for the best. As always it was easy to set up and we settled in for the night. Later in the night it started raining and we woke up to a tent with 1/4 in of water in the bottom and all our gear soaked. I have other tents that i have had for ten years and they sill perform like new. I have always been a MSR fan but i think i will have to look elseware if there gear cant even last 5 years.

Held up to Texan Thunderstorms and Husky ShenanigansI recently picked this up to size up from a cheap two-person tent, and was at first a bit worried by the reviews mentioning leaks due to the lack of seam-sealing (which seems to have been corrected in newer models). I currently live in Texas, so the prospect of surprise thunderstorms with heavy rain is fairly common, and this tent had a trial by fire on its first night out. A fairly strong thunderstorm blew through in the middle of the night, and we remained completely dry inside the tent. For reference, a car roof "Dry" bag we had tried out had a ~2 inch deep pool of rainwater inside of it (which some of our stuff/compression sacks were floating in, unfortunately). The only hints of moisture we got were from keeping the rainfly vents open, which occasionally allowed mist to spray in lightly (an unfortunate necessity in Texas humidity). Additionally, the vestibule design ensured there was a sizeable space to egress from the tent without issues and our shoes remained completely dry -- the top pole gives the vestibule some extra headroom that was very useful for removing my rain jacket in the vestibule. It was also nice that the vestibule had several different guyout points and toggle points, so that you could have openings of multiple sizes.
My only real gripe with the fly was the attachment to the poles seemed odd and the instructions weren't completely obvious (the older model used clips it seems, while the new model has grommets that you fit the tent poles into). Also, there was a fair amount of moisture inside the rainfly, but I chalked that up to the extremely high humidity throughout the day and night. Leaving the fly, tent, and footprint (definitely a nice touch that it has this included) in the sun allowed them to quickly dry without any issues. Also, using the two-zipper design on the rainfly, we were able to get some extra airflow to alleviate the awful humidity - zipping up the fly completely managed to also keep in quite a bit of warmth as the temperature dropped. The tent itself was great, though the lack of a true gear loft was a little disappointing, though the number of pockets and their placement made the need for one pretty unnecessary -- I'll probably just attach one from another tent if I start to miss it.
In summary:
Pros:
-Pretty waterproof, can't complain
-Good ventilation design
-Very roomy, lots of headroom inside
-Spacious vestibule (with headroom)
-Vestibule opening is "modular"
-Quick setup with at least two people
-Lot's of storage pocket space
-Included stakes are surprisingly pretty good (just typical aluminum J-stakes, but with cool red MSR coating to make everyone jealous)
Cons:
-Weird rainfly attachment (doesn't appear to be problematic, more of just a preference)
-Gear loft not included (but alleviated by two tent-ceiling pockets, and toggles for adding a gear loft)
For a car-camping tent for two people and a husky, this is a great fit. I'll be trying this tent out in Colorado soon, and I'm fairly confident that it will be perfect for the colder nights.

Terrible rain flyGranted I bought this tent in 2016ish, but this is by far the worst tent I’ve ever purchased In my life. It has had the least amount of use and the interior of the rain fly, and footprint has basically degraded away.
Spoke to CS and they told me to too old for them to repair, and that either I buy a new one or reseal the seems wash the coating off and reapply new coating.
Unfortunately this was my first and last MSR tent. I’ve treated my marmot, big agnes, and zpacks tent way worse and used them far more often with much better results. I only own their pocket rocket now.
2 stars only because the main tent is fine.

I find it very roomy.I find it very roomy. I’ve read some reviews that say the fly will leak because of a poor glue. Have u changed the glue’s formula?

Hot as HadesI didn't consider that the two doors are not screened from top to bottom and camped in extremely hot weather. Even with the rain fly removed, there is almost no air coming through the tent, making it nearly unbearable to sleep. I have an older MSR Fusion 2 that is excellent in air circulation. I should have considered that before purchasing.
Does this product come with a footprint? Thank you!

What are the dimensions of the floor? Have you any idea why people had bad experiences with water thru the fly and floor?
Asked by: Kaykay
Hey there Kaykay, thanks for the question! This tent has internal dimensions of 84" x 68". Sadly I can't say for sure why some people seem to be having waterproof issues with this fly while some don't, it seems to be random from what I can see. If you have any problems with this rainfly or tent body just let us know, we'll do all we can to work with you and MSR to make it right. I hope this helps!
