Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mountain hardwear 3 person tent I bought this tent 3 weeks ago and used it hiking Santa Cruz trek and climbing Nevado Pisco. the tent is very light, functional, easy to use and appears to be premier quality.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from That awful red fly! I've used several versions of this tent over the years on multiple 8000m peaks and most recently on Denali in 2021. The tent has been bombproof and comfortable for two people. But until MH changes the red fly color I cannot recommend this version of the tent. The interior is too dark and gloomy, and the blood-red lighting only appeals to vampires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for cold weather My review is for the 2-person version of this tent. This tent along with my Bishop Pass sleeping bag keeps me very cozy...I've only used it down to about 15 degrees in Wisconsin cold. I know 4-season tents aren't necessarily meant to be waterproof, so I will say I was soaked during a cold fall rain and the tent wouldn't dry as there was not much sun that day. As long as you stay out of wet snow and are in just a more dry powder you should be cozy in this tent. I agree that the clasps are a but finnicky as the need to be pinched closed. It's easier if you're not in higher altitude and/or in conditions where the weather changes are extreme, as I've gotten by many times just clipping the hooks over the poles without locking them. This makes for super fast setup. If you're in blistery conditions you would probably want to lock them...the tent is really sturdy. One of the most nauseating things about this tent is the rain fly color. I have entered this tent after a couple drinks and felt literally nauseated because it is an overpowering red color. Without drinking it is still an unnerving color...think of leaving your red, murdery light on on your headlamp all night when you just want a relaxing night of sleep. Without the rainfly it's great! But I've said "forget it" a couple times and have had some regrets because for some reason the overpowering red color just affects me too much. Otherwise, a pretty good tent. Oh-there are two vestibules when the rainfly is on...one for your gear, and one apparently for using the bathroom. I said I never would use it but when it's cold as hell and you're exhausted alone in the woods in the middle of the night, you will probably use it and it's a nice feature to have.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Have both Trango 2 and Trango 3 Just came back from a 25 day canoe trip north of the Arctic Circle during which it rained almost every day. On day 6 both tent widows simply fell out of the fly; no wind, no abuse, no reason. This nearly became a survival situation. Had to use a poncho, that did not want to stay in place, to cover the fly for the rest of the trip. Sending fly to MH warranty for evaluation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All good, but... Had this tent for a few years and the rain fly window just came off. Came back from wet hike and the plastic window was on the ground. Rather disappointing. But the tent has been great and I expect the warranty to handle it. It’s winter and this is my winter tent. As I mentioned, disappointed, but...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around mountaineering tent! The new Trango 3 tent is a great all around mountaineering tent that has worked very well for me on big peaks. I'm very happy with the structural design, this tent has held up much better than other 4 season tents I've used, the tent can withstand high winds well. It's lightweight considering how strong it is, which is very important in a big storm. Also, for tall people it's got plenty of room to stretch out full, which many other 4 season tents fall short on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A year round performer I use the Trango 3 for Himalayan expeditions, camping at crags here in USA, and for winter trips to backcountry ski and ice climb. I like a tent that does it all. If you're looking for one tent that can do that, go for the Trango line. Durable and built to last. My oldest Trango tent is 21 years old and still performing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality but needs improvements [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent craftsmanship, quality, materials, and poles. Best of the best in those terms. But this tent does have some flaws that *may* push you towards something else: 1) Tent "clips" appear to be easy to use but in reality they open opposite of that of a carabiner, you have to apply pressure both above and below the clip to open it, then apply pressure again to close it, this feature is VERY annoying with the amount of clips you have all over the tent. If you do this without gloves, you're fingers will be sore by the end of it. 2) The main doors have two seperate panels that zip on exactly the same plane, which makes the zippers catch easier than you'd like. 3) The mesh panel is on the inside of the doors, so if you want to get some fresh air you must unzip both doors, tie back the solid outer door, then rezip your mesh door closed, this process takes literally 4-5x longer than a traditional 4 season tent door that has the mesh on the outside, solid panel inside, or both combined etc. 4) There is only one roof vent on the tent, and the fly does not have an opening to air out that vent, that makes for some interesting condensation issues that you wouldn't find on something similar like the north face VE25. 5) Most rain fly covers are affixed with velcro around the pole, this tent has you use the carabiner clips to loop into, great in theory, but this process is incredibly difficult when squeezing under the tent, you need both hands to fiddle with it in order to get this process done. In closing, this tent is excellent quality, bomber 4 season, super robust, but it does have some design flaws that may lead you to other brands with similar designs.
