The Mountain Hardwear Men's Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down Jacket is a compressible down jacket for backpacking and climbing. Weight matters when you're carrying your camp on your back, or making a push to the summit before dawn. The Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down Jacket comes in at a scant 7.7 ounces to wow your upper body with warmth and comfort. The Whisperer fabric is 100% nylon and a 7D x 10D ripstop, built for lightweight strength to protect the down insulation on the inside. The 800-fill Q.Shield DOWN is water resistant, keeping you warm even if it gets wet. Mountain Hardwear's soft "Butter Jersey" can be found at the cuffs to seal out drafts while a soft elastic at the hood keeps it on and in place. Zippered hand pockets hang onto small items as needed, and when you're in need of shedding a layer, the whole jacket packs into it's own pocket for quick storage inside your pack or clipped to your harness.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it Haven't tested this in real cold yet, but I brought it on a summer trip to the black hills and it worked very well. The temps got into the 50s or maybe high 40s at their lowest, so this jacket was overkill, but it's lighter than my fleece so I brought it anyway. I wake up pretty cold in the morning, so this was very nice to wear when first crawling out of my sleeping bag to watch the sun rise and have some breakfast. I was also glad to have it in the evening after getting chilled by "showering" from my water reservoir. Unheated shower + post-exercise chill = shivering in 50 degrees, so down jacket to the rescue! Again, the jacket is too warm for these temperatures, so I took it off after a bit of warming up in both cases, but I was too excited about my new toy to leave it at home. The fabric is very thin (as should be expected for something this light), so I will treat it gently, but I don't think it feels more delicate than is reasonable for this weight range, and I haven't torn it or noticed any down loss yet. I nearly panicked when I caught the zipper on the fabric while stuffing it into its pocket sack, but I was able to gently free it without tearing. I don't think I'll be wearing this as an everyday winter jacket, partially because of the thin fabric but also to avoid getting food smells on it. A cheaper, heavier jacket will work fine for daily warmth where weight isn't an issue. I wear a medium for most any shirt/jacket/whatever else goes on your chest, and this also fit well as a medium. I have enough room that I probably could have gone down one size to save a few grams, but with this size I have just enough room that I could layer a fleece or something else under it for even more warmth. One very minor thing: in the pictures it shows a greenish lining, the one I received has a red lining (outer colors are the same). I don't really care, I think it looks fine either way, but if you really have a thing for green lining you may be disappointed. Overall: excellent lightweight jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket! Incredibly lightweight and warm. Very compressible. I have had it in extreme wind and the hood is great, fits perfectly. Definitely recommend even though it is a bit expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Won’t travel without this jacket except in July Very comfortable, warm, and easy to roll up and pack in my one bag travel backpack This along with a very light weight rain jacket is good to 40 degrees with wind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All around awesome I originally got this jacket without knowing a whole lot about it’s warmth to weight ratio. It’s crazy warm for how light it is!! Super light for hiking, climbing, super compressible, I love this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So warm for the weight. This is THE down jacket if you’re looking to save weight. It handled 38 degrees without issue. Keep in mind this isn’t the jacket for -10 weather. However for anything between 38 and 70, you should be good to go. In other words, great for the average backpacking and hiking trip. Also, it is waterproof.

I live in Chicago and we are currently experiencing bellow zero temperatures. Will this jacket be able to keep me warm w/ below zero temperatures? I walk about 2 miles downtown and Chicago wind chill can be extreme. Will it require a shell?

Asked by: Carlo
These types of jackets are truly driven by level of activity. Given that it is only DWR, you would totally benefit from a hardshell over it to help cut the wind, even during moderate activity. This jacket will keep you warm on a still day, but when the wind starts kicking up, it needs assistance.

will the hood fit over a climbing helmet?

Asked by: mikeg
The hood on the Ghost Whisperer was designed with your helmet in mind. This jacket will certainly accommodate your helmet on all your alpine adventures.

I'm hiking the Inka trail in may and from my research they say the nights and mornings can drop below 0 if this is the case would this do the job as part of my layering system ?

Asked by: Inka stinka
Hiya, thanks for the question! You have a good eye... this is an excellent option for layering! Plus, it's super warm and light, so it won't take up much space. Hope this helps!
