The Moosejaw Women's Longer Mt. Elliott Insulated Waterproof Parka is a long jacket for keeping winter at bay. Longer than the original Mt. Elliott, the parka length offers more warmth and weather protection. The outer shell fabric is 100% seam-sealed 10k/10k waterproof/breathable 2-layer fabric that will help protect you from the worst weather. PrimaLoft® Silver insulation can't be seen, but there is a 133g in the body and 100g in the arms and hood. The hood is removable and insulated and the collar and hand pockets are lined with cozy fleece for that extra touch of comfort and warmth. We even integrated comfort cuffs that have thumb holes to help keep the snow out and warm in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coat full of features I bought this coat at the end of our winter season but was able to wear it a few times. I sized up to be able to add winter layers. Love everything about this coat!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warmer than expected Loved the coat but wanted something a little lighter as I already had a warm jacket, sadly I had to return it . Will use moosejaw when I replace my warm jacket

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around coat. Bought this coat for a trip to London. Needed waterproof and warmth. It did not disappoint. Plus it has a sleeker look than other more bulky coats providing similar features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this coat I bought this coat to replace my well worn four year old moosejaw coat. And This coat is even warmer than the last one. Fits me perfectly I just love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for those seeking a warm non-down option I'm tall and allergic to down so spent a long time seeking a coat long enough to go down to my knees and warm enough to stand up to a Chicago winter. I am very happy with this one, both longer and warmer than anything I could get from North Face or other down-substitute options. It is also impressively light weight, providing warmth without the shoulder pain that comes with heavy winter coats. The inside lining is extremely soft and pleasant to the touch, the thumb hole cuffs are a great anti-weather feature, and the zipper is strong. In sub-freezing temperatures I layer it with another jacket but only because I'm extraordinarily cold sensitive, so I think most people would be fine with this as their only winter coat. I'm 5'10" and it does come just to my knees. I wish there were an even longer version, but this is definitely the longest choice I've found on the market for non-down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect length and weight I bought this coat for city living and it's perfect. Being from Alaska, I had loads of coats that are heavy duty but I didn't have anything that was good for walking around in a city. It's a perfect weight (or at least for me) for walking around in 15-35 degrees, although I'm not certain how it would hold up colder than that. The fuzzy pockets are a great detail and the small hand covers are nice substitutes for mittens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded Expectations! Well designed, many thoughtful features such as lined pockets, attractive neckline closed and especially open, ethical and truly warm and truly light weight. Love snap buttons on placket, too.

How does this long coat compare to the Arc'teryx Patera in warmth, features and quality of materials and construction?

Asked by: Anniesun
The reply above regarding the GORE-TEX® technology is actually inaccurate. DWR is a Durable Water Repellent applied to the outer shell of most "water proof/water resistant" garments. GORE-TEX® garments also have a DWR on the outer shell, however the name GORE-TEX® refers to the GORE-TEX® membrane, which is laminated between the fabric of the garment. The membrane prevents any water from passing through the garment to the wearer underneath. Other products DO NOT have a membrane, or the guaranteed waterproof GORE-TEX® membrane, laminated in their products to keep water out. DWR wears off over time and needs to be reapplied. The GORE-TEX® membrane does not need to be replaced, etc. It is a technical component of the garment. DWR is a topical application that needs to be reapplied and wears off over time. A DWR garment vs a GORE-TEX® garment is nowhere near the same in quality or performance.

In one spot on this page, the coat is described as "critically seam taped." In another, it's "fully seam sealed." Which one is correct?

Asked by: Judy Blume
Hiya Judy Blume, thanks for your question! Are you Judy Blume, the author, because your grammar is on point?! Anyway, it is fully seam sealed. Sorry for the confusion!

Rock, I was inquiring about the "Women's Longer Mt. Elliott" Parka, not the "Woodward" Longer Down jacket.  The Mt. Elliott has 133g of PrimaLoft Silver & and I wanted to know what temp rating that is? Is it equivalent to 650 down fill in warmth?

Asked by: MommyStef
Hiya Mommy Stef, this is a complicated question because we are comparing apples and oranges. The number of down fill (650) is associated with the quality of the down and the plume to father ration, not how much is filling it. A 800 power fill jacket can be very thin and lightweight. It is difficult to compare down and synthetic in that manner. The short answer is that the Longer Mt. Elliott Parka is extremely warm and would be an amazing winter jacket. Sorry for the confusion, I hope this helps!

Does this coat run large? Normally I am a medium in most brands (140 lb., 5'5", 36" chest), but true fit says I am a small. Also, is this a heavy coat?

Asked by: Chlytie
Hey Chlytie, thanks for asking! I just picked this coat up for myself last week. I normally wear XL but a Large fit me perfectly with a long sleeve and thin sweater. If you would like to wear big thick sweaters and hoodies under it you might want to go with a Medium. This coat is designed to be a winter coat for cold weather - snow, low temperatures, freezing rain, etc. It would be perfect for a Massachusetts winter. I hope this helps!

Is this very bulky or what? How small can this pack down if I wanted to bring it on a ski trip? Will it take up my entire carry-on bag? Does it need to be relegated to a checked bag or just left at home?

Asked by: silentsnow928
Hiya silentsnow928, thanks for your question! I don't think it is terribly bulky. I was able to smash a size medium into a ~7 x 12 inch ball and fit it in my Kanken backpack but it didn't leave a lot of room for other things. It is really your call. I'm sorry I can't give you a definite answer!

Is this machine washable and dried in the dryer?

Asked by: Audrey
Hiya Audrey, thanks for your question! Here are the washing instructions: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Lay flat to dry. Do not bleach. Do not dry clean. Cool iron with press cloth if needed. Hope this helps!

I'm moving from Texas (near San Antonio) to Fargo, ND. Is the longer My. Elliott Insulated Parka going to keep me from freezing to death? I'm not sure it will be possible to keep me warm, but I seriously do need a coat that I cannot buy down here.

Asked by: TexasTara
Thanks for the question! The Mt. Elliott is an extremely heavy synthetic Parka. I actually have it and it is one of my Michigan winter staples. If you think you will be freezing, I would wear a heavy sweater or sweatshirt underneath. I would also consider the Woodward Longer Down Jacket. Anything Down-filled will keep you toasty. It is not waterproof like the Mt. Elliott, but is water-resistant. I included a link below. Hope this helps!

I have long arms & broad shoulders. I often have trouble with sleeve length and shoulder fit in outerwear. Based on your size guide I am at the top end of size Small. Can anyone help me gauge whether I should size up to a medium for arm/shoulder fit?

Asked by: BrownEyed Girl
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! As a person with long arms myself, I feel your pain. It's rumored that my great-grandma was an orangutan. Turns out she just really liked bananas and didn't believe in personal grooming. Anywhooo....seeing as you're on the top end of size small, I would recommend getting a medium. That should be a better fit for your arms and shoulders. Hope this helps you out! Hugsies.
