Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent jacket. Seriously. First of all, I don't usually write online reviews. The quilted 'puffer' jacket has become very popular in the past few years - everyone's wearing one. I don't like to follow the pack, but I was looking for a lightweight, very warm jacket to replace a bulky one I used to have. I bought several jackets online during the past few weeks - a few from the big name brands that everyone is wearing, and a couple from totally unknown knock-off companies that sell online at very low prices. I sent them all back. Some had no hood. Some had a hood but it wasn't removable. Some had no inside pocket. But I kept looking, and found the Moosejaw Men's Baseline Down Jacket, and it really looked like what I wanted. It arrived today - and I was right. After ordering, trying on and returning about 1/2 dozen jackets in the past month, I can say that this one is the best of it's kind. It has a zippered inside pocket designed so you can listen to music with headphones while you're shoveling snow or whatever, plus 2 big mesh pockets inside for gloves or whatever a r. It has a really nicely designed adjustable, removable hood. It has warm fleece-lined zippered pockets on the outside. And it has waterproof fabric on the shoulders, which is a good thoughtful feature if you're a skier or if, like me, you're a town-dweller who has to shovel the walk or the car in all kinds of conditions (like today!). AND, at the sale price, it cost a lot less than some of the more famous brand jackets that I returned because they didn't have anywhere near the features that this one has. No, I don't work for Moosejaw, I don't know anyone who works there, and I never even heard of it until last week. But after comparing a bunch of jackets like this during the holiday shopping season, I can say wiothout question that this one is the biggest bang for the buck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This seems to be a great coat for the money. This coat is awesome. I bought it at the end of winter, but the few cold days were toasty with this coat. Lots of pockets and a great fit. I would highly recommend this coat because it’s a great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm without the weight I bought this for my husband to wear instead of his bulky parka. He didn’t think it could keep him as warm, but was he ever wrong! It kept him toasty down into the single digits outside and was comfortable to wear while driving. He loves it !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm Jacket This is a fine down jacket. I've been out in -16*F with a 10 mph wind and this jacket kept me warm with just a cotton shirt under the jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazingly warm coat for the Money I bought this coat for a trip to Minneapolis about a month ago. My northface 700 was about warn out, but I didn't want to spend $300 on a new coat. I could not believe the quality of this coat. As a plus, it wasn't as puffy as my northface and i could use it to layer under one of my favorite leather coats....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Great Jacket. 110% Satisfied. I tried quite a few insulated jackets and returned them all, including some from more “big name” companies. This is by far the best made of them all, at a really good price, with awesome features. I liked it when it first arrived, and after a month when thwearther hit record lows, I like it even better. Detachable hood is a good feature that some of the others didn’t have, which is why I returned them. This hood is super warm. The fabric liner at the neck, and the double snapped neck means that unless it’s super cold I don’t need a scarf. The cuffs extend a few inches when you want them to, made of a stretchy material with a thumb loop. I had no idea how cool this feature would be. It’s longer in the back than the other jackets I tried, so your butt isn’t hanging out there in the cold wind, and that means that your overall body temperature stays warm. Zippered pockets inside and out, an extra large zippered pocket on one side for gloves or goggles ... this jacket seriously has it all. It has special water-resistant fabric on the shoulders, so you don’t get drenched out shoveling snow. AND it’s filled with down, not a synthetic down substitute. Read the list of features carefully - it’s all really good. I want to emphasize that I tried a whole bunch before I found this jacket, and I have said a bunch of times that I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s even better than I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicely Designed Warm Jacket This jacket is a perfect addition to my winter wardrobe. The inside pockets are large enough for me to store a beanie and padded gloves inside, where I can get to them when they are needed. The inside zippered pocket holds my Moto smartphone and has a port to run earphone wires through. Having both a zipper and snaps to close the front insures warmth even in windy conditions. Having the hood detachable adds to the convenience of this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket I bought the jacket about 6 weeks ago and received it just in time for the cold weather. Have worn it frequently and it has kept me warm even with high winds and windchills below zero. Purchase price was very reasonable and earned MOOSEJAW points I used on another item. Highly recommend service and merchandise.

What would be the minimum temperature comfort range for this jacket?

Asked by: todabeach
Hey there, This jacket has a wide range of temperatures it can be comfortably worn in. We designed the jacket to stand alone on moderately cold days or layer with the new Moosejaw Men's Mack Ave 1/4 Zip Fleece when the temps drop. However, we do still suggest wearing pants, but don't let us tell you what to do.

Asked by: Smartins75
Hiya Smartins75, thanks for your question! The whole jacket is water resistant but it also has waterproof fabric on the shoulders. Hope this helps!

I am a woman, 5'6", 130 lbs. I am looking for a warm jacket that I can use for chores (I live on a farm). None of the women's down coats I have looked at have the features this one has. Will small be too small or just right?

Asked by: Deborah
Thanks for the question! We do not normally recommend Men's outer wear for Women as their jackets tend to be broader, have shorter sleeves, and a shorter hip length. With that being said, I would order one size smaller from your normal size (in women's). The Men's Small will fit a chest size 36-38", waist 29-31", hip 35-38", and a sleeve length of 35 inches. If you are in that range, I think you found a winner!

Will this be comfortable in the colder and windy conditions in Minnesota? Especially in Duluth region?

Asked by: niraj
Thanks for the question! Yes, the Moosejaw Men's Baseline Down Jacket will def work for those harsh Minnesota winters. It is down-filled and wind-resistant. Keep in mind that does not mean it is windproof. I would check out the Moosejaw Men's Mt. Elliott Insulated Waterproof Jacket. It is insulated with PrimaLoft©, waterproof, and windproof. Many of us here at Moosejaw wear that piece for our Michigan winters. I included a link below for you to check it out. Hope this helps!

I really love this coat and I was wondering how it might hold up when snowmobile riding.

Asked by: bm121378
Thanks for the question! The Baseline Down Jacket is water-resistant, extremely warm, and will handle most abrasive surfaces. With that being said, it is not windproof and the fabric is not seam sealed. I would actually consider the Mt. Elliott Insulated Waterproof Jacket instead as it will have the wind & water protection you will need while snowmobiling. I included a link below. I am not trying to steer you away from getting the Baseline, you just may want the additional protection that the Mt. Elliott offers. Hope this helps!
