The Marmot Women's Chelsea Coat is a long, waterproof, insulated jacket for battling the winter storms. The Chelsea looks innocent enough, with its mid-thigh length, feminine shape, and removable synthetic fur ruff, but it's really much more. It's built with 100% seam-taped, 2-layer MemBrain® construction and 100% polyester herringbone fabric. The result keeps you dry and warm in snow, sleet, and just plain cold weather, as it is waterproof and windproof. The inside is packed with 700 fill power down to insulate against the cold, without adding unnecessary weight to your delicate frame. Change your style with a simple zip, as both the hood and the fur trim are removable, so you can go with or without fur and with or without hood. Microfleece lines the two zippered handwarmer pockets and you'll also find soft microfleece internal cuffs wrapping your wrists softly. Zip up and head to school, work, the store, or wherever else you need to go this winter.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coat! Purchased this coat for my wife. She loves it! It's very warm and light. The waterproof element is great (coming from an all down coat). She loves that the sleeves are long with the cuff inside. She has observed the swooshing noise it makes and that there is no loop inside or out to hang the coat. These are not deal breakers by any means, but just things to be aware of, or to improve on future versions (the loop specifically).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm coat, great hood! I purchased this coat for a move up north, and have worn it every day so far! It is very warm and wind resistant. The hood is snug against the head and feels more like a hat than a hood. My only complaint is that the zipper is a little hard to manage and can stick sometimes. Other than that, I love the coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm & Stylish I bought this when I was In a -20 degree cold snap and it worked beautifully. It fits comfortably and ooks great too. The detachable hood is helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great coat I just received this coat yesterday, I must say they only down side is that the color is not as shown. But it's warm and the fit is perfect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tiny hood The hood is very very tiny and presses the top of my head. It also leaves your cheeks and forehead totally exposed because it is so "short". I live in Finland where we get everything from -20C to sleet to +5C and rain during winter. This hood would never cut it. Yes, it really is very bad. Otherwise the jacket is brilliant. The sleeves are long enough and the fit is ok. (I'm 174cm tall and ordered a size M which fits perfectly at the shoulders and would work with or without a sweater underneath). The look&feel of the outer material is ok - not luxurious, but not cheap looking either. So, a painfully badly designed hood ruins an otherwise good jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Coat! Bought this for cold MN winters, and so far no complaints! I love that it has built in sleeves (by the wrist) so cold air doesn't come up the arms. The coat is a slightly noisy, but nothing besides hearing some 'swishing' when you walk. The only down fall is that the zipper only starts near the hips (versus the bottom of the coat), so when you sit, it will flare open slightly. I'm 5'6" and ended up going with a size a medium, its a little snug with heavy sweaters, but when I tried on the large I was swimming in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, waterproof, cozy - exactly what I wanted This is my first heavy-duty winter coat in nearly 15 years, so I did LOTS of research (think a 50 line Excel doc) before deciding on this coat. And I'm so happy! What was I looking for? 1.) I live in NYC and walk to work, so I was looking for something that allowed me to move briskly without overheating but also was warm enough that I could stand in line outside for popular brunch/bagels. 2.) A sturdy hood that would stay in place despite wind tunnels created by skyscrapers. 2a.) Hood had to have a visor brim or fur to protect my eyes from blowing snow/sleet. 3.) Deep pockets for phone/keys. 4.) Waterproof. It won't be worn in the rain, but walking ~1 mile in a snowstorm can lead to a lot of snow buildup/dampness! 5.) Near knee-length because I wear primarily skirts and dresses to work (and I'm almost 5'10", so finding a good length can be a challenge!). 6.) Classy enough to wear to work in a business environment. After almost a month of walking around in this coat, I am 100% happy with this purchase. The hood works great - I can even fit a (snug) beanie under it! Before buying, I stood outside (no movement, just standing, in jeans and sweater underneath) in ~10 degree weather for 15 minutes and didn't get cold. More recently, I walked to work on a 28 degree day wearing just a short-sleeve dress and thin tights underneath and was cozy cozy cozy. But I have also worn a sweater underneath and not overheated! The black looks great and the pockets keep my hands warm even without gloves. Bonus - the coat itself is super light, so it's easy to carry over my arm. When ordering, I would recommend sizing down. The measurement guide recommended an XL for me - and I DROWNED in it. The L has a fair bit of extra room as well (but my shoulders would not have fit in an M). My only complaint is the double-zipper. Even though the coat goes to my low thighs (not quite knee-length), the zipper only goes to about my groin - the rest of the distance is covered by snaps. At that length, I don't need a double-zipper for increased mobility; I can sit and hit my full stride even with the coat fully zipped. The double-zipper just adds an extra layer of complexity for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warmest!! I bought this for my daughter going to school in Cleveland. I’ve always loved Marmot and this coat met everything she needed! It’s made cold damp winters more tolerable for my southern girl.

Please I need help! I got some melted butter on my jacket! What are the washing instructions? I stupidly cut them off

Asked by: bev62
Hey Bev! So sorry to hear about the melted butter. I guess mattress tags aren't the only ones you shouldn't remove! Here are the general care instructions for this jacket, straight from the tag: Machine wash cold. Wash with like colors. Front load washing matching, powdered detergent, gentle cycle. Remove faux fur before washing. No fabric softener. Do not iron. Do not bleach. Do not dry clean. Tumble dry low with tennis balls to fluff. Close all fasteners. As far as removing the melted butter stain, I called Marmot to find out what you should do. A very knowledgeable rep who has been there said it's important not to put any chemicals on the technically engineered fabric of this coat, because it could damage the polyurethane laminate that makes it waterproof and durable. So that means you shouldn't use any stain remover or take it to a dry cleaner, as the general care instructions indicate. The best strategy is to dab Dawn dishwashing detergent on the spot with a wet washcloth (we here the blue one is best for this), and wipe the spot away. You might have to try it more than once. She said they can't guarantee results, but if it's good enough to use on ducks, it should be OK on this coat! We hope this helps!

i live in new england - will this coat go the distance to -20F wind chill? in other words, what's its temperature rating? thanks.

Asked by: catt
Thanks for the question! Unfortunately, Marmot does not temperature rate their garments. With that being said, the Chelsea is a 700-fill down, waterproof coat. It will be very warm based on the fill amount alone. On the extremely cold winter days I would add extra layers just to be safe. Hope this helps!
