The Marmot Men's Southridge Jacket is a waterproof jacket for deterring nasty weather on the mountains. The Marmot MemBrain fabric is waterproof and breathable, for staying comfortable on the inside in wet weather. All seams are taped to prevent leaks while a storm flap down the front and Velcro at the cuffs provide additional protection at the openings. The attached hood keeps water off your head and brow with the laminated brim, cinching down so it won't blow off in harsh winds. Marmot's angel wing movement technology allows you to stretch and move with ease. All pockets are zippered to ensure snacks stay close.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Product Really nice heavy-duty rain jacket. I normally buy large shirt sizes, but I'm glad I bought the extra large so I can wear sweaters under it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I love this jacket but it does have flaws I received this as a present a few years ago and it’s done me well for a long time. I’ve put it through the wringer and it has no rips, excessive wear spots, or seam slits. The jacket is long enough that it’s perfect for rainy or otherwise wet weather, but not too long that it cumbersome. Now for the bad. It’s a warm jacket. It doesn’t seem to breathe well, while still being comfortable because of the liner. This wouldn’t be an issue if there were under arm vents. The dwr coating probably wore off about a year ago and I recently re-coated it with a nikwax treatment because I do like it and don’t want to replace it yet. I do love this coat and I use it as a shell for layering (great for cooler weather) but in warm weather I avoid using it for long periods of time or strenuous activities. Otherwise, I’d be drenched in sweat instead of rain. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great waterproofness; can get warm The coat is definitely waterproof. I just returned from a week in Costa Rica where I hiked for hours in the rain forests, and zip-lined, and the coat protected me just fine from the wind and rain. I like its zipper-equiped pockets as well. Two complaints, however: It can get warm in there. If you're hiking in 60s or below its probably not going to be a problem... but when temperatures climb to 70s or more, you'll get sweaty in there. I live in Seattle where this will come in handy, but maybe its not ideal for climates like those in Florida, say. I suppose you can't really get great water-proofing without avoiding the sweating too, but I wanted to share that. Additionally, sometimes the zipper would get caught in the coat's fabric. It happened a few times, which is annoying. That's not a problem I usually notice, so the fact it happened here means, to me, there might be a design flaw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as described. Recently wore this on a morning hike to watch the sun rise on New Years Day in Canyonlands National Park. Kept the wind out and even after spilling some hot chocolate on the front it dripped right off not leaving a trace of it. Also packs down fairly small and fits well. I have not used it in any rain conditions yet, but feel it will probably work well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from God price, low breathability. Not good for high-intensive activities. Too low breathability. I guess its good enough for slow walking/hiking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very bad I had to take scissors and remove lining because it doesn't breathe at all. Who invented a membrane jacket with non breathing lining???

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great quality for the price Good jacket, nice weight for a variety of conditions. The cut is a little slimmer than past Marmot jackets I've had.  For the price this is an excellent jacket.

can you wear this as a shell over a down marmot coat?

Asked by: wicker
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! The Marmot Southridge Jacket is a waterproofed shell meant for protection against the elements and can be used alone in warmer climates or layered with any insulation layer for added warmth when the climate turns cold!
