Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the beginner who plans on getting bett They are aggressive enough that you won't outgrow them after your first few months of climbing but not so curved that they are painful to wear. I would recommend these to anyone who is starting climbing but it hooked and planning on sticking with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent These shoes required very little break in time which is a big plus! Just a little tight on the heel for the first approximately 6 climbing days. Performance wise they are my new go-to shoes for all but routes with the tiniest holds. While these are good edgers, I reach for Miuras when the crux of the route involves dime edges. Overall they are a great performance all-arounder. I have not tried them in any extensive crack situation yet, however. I buy my street shoe size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for narrow feet with smaller heel I have trouble finding climbing shoes that are long enough without bagging out in the heel or on the sides. My feet are fairly narrow with high arches and a longer big toe. These have been great so far, although I am still breaking them in. The only other shoe I have found that fits my foot is the Mythos but I wanted something slightly more aggressive for bouldering & overhung routes. These worked best in a 39--I wear an 8 in street shoes, a 9 in running shoes, and a 37 in La Sportiva Mythos.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from UP-DATE Shoes are fully broken in. Outstanding crack performance, very comfortable, great for heel hooks! However, I have popped through the toe on the right foot. Great comfort, style, performance, not good for durability. I have been climbing in these shoes for ONE season over diverse terrain like sandstone, various types of granite, and conglomerate rock and I am very disappointed that they are already in need of resoling. The Katakis are a blast to climb in, and I would totally recommend them if you can make them last longer than I did! *shoes were only worn on rock or in the gym, never left in the car or used in dirt

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, so good! First off - I am in the process of breaking these shoes in, so this review is a little skewed. I have only been climbing single pitch routes and bouldering problems while breaking them in. Anyways, these shoes are just as gorgeous in real life as they are in pictures. The fit is snug yet not overtly constrictive. The toes are surprisingly comfortable. Muiras gave my feet permanent callouses on my big toes, yet these shoes (even the first time I wore them) have not caused any new wear and tear to these callouses. I was surprised to find that the tongue on the shoe (wording?) is super soft and wraps around my foot so that there is no pesky rubbing! The heel is very snug and performs excellently for heel hooks when the shoes are tightly laced. So far, I have only had chafing on the back of my right ankle. The heel cinches so tightly to my skin that I have to pry it away when I take the shoes off.....which is great while climbing but rubs otherwise. Performance-wise, these shoes are sweet for how comfy they are for a semi-aggressive fit. Not as sticky or pocket-rocking as Muiras but definitely more versatile. They feel like performance-based Mythos with more aggressive heels. Thus far, I am stoked on the Katakis and can't wait till they are broken in enough for long days in the mountains!

La Sportiva footwear is built and offered on European half sizes, which are smaller increments than US half sizes. This gives them four extra sizes per size run, and ultimately gives you a better fit.

As a general rule soft shoes like climbing shoes require a tighter fit, or about two to three sizes smaller than your street shoe size.

La Sportiva recommends you fit your trad climbing shoes one to two sizes under your street shoe size.

La Sportiva offers a lot of lasts, and each offers a different fit and feel. Remember to factor in potential stretching.

Unlined slip-lasted shoes tend to stretch a bit more than lined shoes, or about one full size.

Lined shoes stretch about a half size.

PERFORMANCE FIT - Offers a high performance fit and a downturned last.

TECH FIT - A more technical fit and a last with neutral profile.

COMFORT FIT - A comfortable fit and a last with more volume and a neutral profile.
