Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Do It All Light Hiker! This shoe has "nailed-it" as an all-around light hiker/approach shoe. There may be better hikers and better climbers, but this reaches between the two beautifully. Top points are fit, weight, breathability, and comfort. The lacing system is similar to my La Sportiva climbing shoes which wrap it snuggly around the foot. The toe box is wide compared to most of their shoes, which is good for me and hiking. Consider going down a half size if you intend to do more climbing in them or have thin feet. The mesh upper is so effective, I can feel the wind through it -- though this is likely to be the first point of failure from rough rocks or crack jamming. The toe and rand coverage should help though. The rubber is solid on 5.5 slab granite but there was some softness and flex when edging, but surprisingly good. I could easily see using these for biking on flats as well. Again, size tighter if climbing is your primary use. I hiked steep rock, mud, rooty trails to get to the easy slabs and found them supportive, airy, and light weight. I could see trail running in them as well. The orange color is growing on me, but I still would have gone with the blue if they had it in my size. For my needs, these are perfect -- all sorts of general hiking, possibly biking, rock scrambling on approaches, and sometimes climbing when the going is easy. Too early to comment on durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoes! Stick to everything. I just used this shoes for 4 days of climbing/approaching in Red Rocks. They performed outstandingly. The rubber sticks to literally everything. Didn't matter if it was wet, sandy, or muddy. Also, I broke them out of the package and used them immediately and they didn't feel stiff or hurt my feet at all. Super comfortable and the mesh on top allows great breathability. I'm a size 42 and the 43 fits me perfect. So you know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best approach shoe for my needs in Texas! Built more burley than the TX2 (and a bit heavier), but lighter than the TX4 (and more breathable), this shoe sticks on limestone and granite with ease. Easy to bring up on the harness on multipitch, and breaths quite easily on your descent. The guide tennies were cheaper, but this one eventually took the crown. Other nice addition - it makes for a killer trail running shoe!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mix of climbing and hiking ability I bought a pair of these a year ago, and they've done very well. They climb well if you tighten the laces (I've led 5.6 in the alpine with them), they're supportive and comfortable for hiking, and they even take strap-on crampons pretty well (although your feet will quickly get wet). What makes them do both well is their good torsional rigidity. This allows them to flex nicely while hiking, but still edge and jam well. A deep tread helps with walking on scree etc (they're much better at this than e.g. the guide tennies), and a flat spot at the toe helps with edging. The durability of the mesh uppers is great. If you plan to kick into scree a lot, then maybe the TX4s would be better, but I've seen little wear - the soles will probably wear out first on my TX3s. I previously had the xplorers. Those were better at hiking/running, but didn't climb nearly as well. The TX3s are better overall. They also get wider in the toe box (if you loosen the laces) then the xplorers did, so they're a bit more comfortable if you have wide toes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid base Solid base, grippy like Colbert, seem pretty comfy which is great cos i have a wide foot. Got the 43.5. Not so sure about the colour scheme but i didnt buy em to be pretty :). Dunno that i would try to climb in them since i got them with enough room at the toe for medium length walks (1.5 hours)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sticky and light Bought these for a week of slab climbing in Tuolomne. Probably the most important piece of gear I bought. I lived in them for a week. They hike and approach great. Open top can let in silt/sand, but that's breathability for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bomber This is one of my favorite pairs of approach shoes I've ever owned. They are my general go to hiking shoe.
